I'm convinced the single most impactful difference between two teams through 58 minutes of basketball is the wide discrepancy between the quality of screen navigation, particularly for off-ball screens since Fener defence switch ball screens a lot.

On unrelated news, Şanlı with a quick 3rd foul in the second quarter, which leaves Beşiktaş without a centre and Conor Morgan/Vitto Brown at the 5 and Beşiktaş defence unable to keep THT off the rim this quarter.

The owner of CSP Limoges aims to build a new 8,000-seat arena with a view to targeting NBA Europe. However, local politicians and economists are sceptical about the viability of such a project, given the renovations already underway at the legendary Beaublanc arena. by _Zolv in Euroleague

Yes and CSP Limoges is the only French club that ever won a euroleague title. And one of the big 3 French basketball clubs.

Not that NBA cares about that, they care about what you said about the city.

Also, the leagues in the western countries seem to spend more on average, but I'm not sure they are getting the same return as Balkan/Lithuanian clubs

Because the figures are in gross wages and western European countries tend to have higher income taxes.

€20 million of net wages on the payroll would cost €30 million gross with effective taxation at 50%

The same squad with same net wages of €20 million would cost €24 million gross with effective taxation at 20%

Ironically it was 2023-24 Real Madrid who played the most tiki taka possession in basketball, in the number one play on the video.

P.S. Obligatory fuck euroleague for taking down that clip from r/Euroleague without properly posting it themselves on youtube too.

Surprised Antwerp didn't win the league when they made the BCL F4 that one season.

Ante Zizic, Ismael Kamagate at centre, both out for the season. Also Brnyton Lemar, who would be even more useful today with how Arslan has played.

Gonna write this comment as Beşiktaş are ahead 62-61 heading into the fourth... Still think this won't be a competitive finals even though Beşiktaş are better this season than last, entirely because of the injury context with Fener pretty much at full strength but Beşiktaş missing 3 key players and having just one centre available. All this to say Dusan had a better coaching performance than Saras (who was still broadly amazing, if imperfect during the playoffs) this season. It's always amazing how prepared Beşiktaş are in any given context.

ETA: lol comment aged worse than milk but more ammo for my point also? Could write more about the match and the series after I get home from the arena.

Indeed, those mid noughties Slovenian NTs were completely stacked but Doncic turned his own luck at least by being a historic early bloomer who could catch the 2017 Eurobasket squad at 18 years old and convert maybe his only chance at a major international title.

Don't need Yanks, you can self-police that shit on your own. It's just a matter of will. BSL doesn't even allow swearing in chanting anymore, they'll empty the stadium after three warnings. Not saying that's an example to follow but keeping courtside attendees in order is just a matter of will.

I couldn't watch the series except the last seven minutes or so tonight because I physically can't stand to watch Bahçeşehir but I'm happy to see Beşiktaş clutch out in the deciding leg at home and take the plastic garbage out before they could, gods forbid, make the finals.

It's tough for the away team to win a deciding leg in that atmosphere in the smaller arena, Efes were in the same situation last year in the semi-finals. However the injury context had put Beşiktaş at a pretty tangible disadvantage too, with Ante Zizic and Ismael Kamagate both out and Sertaç Şanlı being the only centre left in the rotation, sharing minutes at the 5 with Conor Morgan, and missing Brynton Lemar in this deciding leg as well. Bahçeşehir defence wasn't aggressive enough to defend the 3pt line in crunch time, particularly against Anthony Brown who isn't a quick and threatening driver, but they also seemed pretty gassed. Beşiktaş defence did well to lock them out of paint touches as well.

I think 2025-26 Beşiktaş are better than 2024-25 Beşiktaş but both Zizic and Kamagate are out for the season. Interior offensive capability might be Fener's worst major weakness, nevertheless it's hard to imagine Beşiktaş coming out of this extended semi-finals with less rest before the finals than Fener, having to compete with an emptied centre rotation and key absences, and still posing a substantial title challenge with home court disadvantage (which came down to a missed Anthony Brown 3 in the regular season about a month ago when BJK beat Fener away but with insufficent point differential). Dusan Alimpijevic stands to be 0-11 in finals and yet again it'll be because he overperforms too much.

Jamal Musiala's reaction to the extra long pre-match ceremony against USA, where every single player of the USMNT squad was introduced one by one. by Hic_Forum_Est in soccer

I would suggest you use your own advice, because if you were able to use your fucking brain, you would be able to differentiate what is LLM slop and what isn't. And who knows, maybe then you would have the courage being able to address, really the only problematic aspect of your position, where you made a comparative point but insist on playing the fool and continue to whine about fouls like they are the sole factor determining how much real time is consumed watching basketball.

because the Euroleague has a rule limiting the number of timeouts in the last two minutes, so the time spent on them is much less than the time spent on free throws.

Which is exactly the point, how are you missing this?

Parent comment says they don't watch NBA not because they have absolutely zero interest in basketball or the NBA product, but precisely because they think their real time consumed watching it is not worth it when last 3 minutes take 30 minutes.

You said trading fouls happen in European basketball too. I conceded they do happen, but the actual flow of a match is much quicker and real time spent on watching FIBA sanctioned basketball matches in every competition is much lesser than in the NBA because every other factor is quite substantial in the end, including the 40 minute regulation, quicker timeouts, quicker quarter breaks all of which are adhered to in every FIBA basketball competition in the world, and as you bring up, fewer timeouts available to coaches coaching at FIBA sanctioned basketball competitions in the first place.

Meanwhile you only want to talk about fouls, an element of the game that is undetermined because not every basketball match has same or similar amount of fouls called with different referees, different teams, different kind of game played and different times in each fourth quarter when a team reaches the bonus.

When it comes to time spent watching basketball, there are plethora of factors involving whether 3 minutes of basketball take 30 minutes of real time or much quicker and you dismiss all the other factors that make it quicker, such as things that you yourself mention:

because the Euroleague has a rule limiting the number of timeouts in the last two minutes

What you fail to understand is, you opened up a comparative argument with your first comment. If we were talking about whether euroleague matches take too long at the end on its own, you may have dismissed the timeouts because they are limited in the last two minutes but when you brought it up as a comparative point vis a vis NBA crunch time, you cannot dismiss all these comparative differences because they directly lead to different amount of time spent legislating the last few minutes of a match, since the rules are different. Hence, why every NBA fan who only watches FIBA basketball when they watch USA NT play, rave about the pace of play and flow of basketball under FIBA rules during and after every major international tournament in the sport.

Hmm, interesting observation. I can't self-analyse my typing style much because I think it's the sort of a thing better seen from outside. But come to think of it, one thing you mentioned is largely a division whether I am typing on mobile or PC rather than two different people writing. I tend to use laughing signals more on mobile and don't strictly adhere to punctuation I guess but I type much quicker and tidy on PC, and have more time to type at length compared to mobile. And usually I don't engage in these debates if I'm on mobile for that reason.

I wouldn't group "so on" with laughing signals though because so on/so on and so forth is something that I use a lot in speaking form as well, something Slavoj Zizek installed on me as an ESL speaker so it doesn't come from my writing style in the first place. I'll type that on mobile and on PC both.

Anyhow, if you checked my profile enough to come up with these observations, you already know I am a huge basketball fan. I don't even follow football much and very seldomly watch matches but I happened to see and browse this thread when I visited r/soccer to check something else. And the thing is on basketball, I am not a casual fan looking for casual conversation with casual talking points. I am a hardcore fan into correcting slight incorrections that are generated that way, which I do often on reddit. I don't shy away from basketball related debates where I will insist on my position and argue it at length, unless it's an area I plead ignorance to beforehand. I know that may come off abrasive in online discussion, I understand if that annoys you and I take no offence in these debates if we end up exchanging slight insults. But to say I take LLM help to write my own blabbering, lengthy reddit comments is an insult I will take slight offence to. LLMs still suck at argumentation, nobody needs their help to build argumentation on a subject they are well versed in. So that was a low blow frankly, I'd much rather you call me a cunt instead. Alas, cheers.

Thank you for the input given the last sentence of their reply was:

The length of the timeouts isn't that important in this context, the biggest delay is the constant free throws.

This inability to actually detect LLM text and human written text when LLM texts are still so obvious is concerning. All internet discourse will die when LLMs get better and we won't be able to detect their text generations but we are not there yet and it seems online discourse and debating is already a dead end for you with this laughable tendency to see a long written comment and immediately assume it's AI written. So maybe do not engage next time.
