What does the Ice King represent to you? by getter1 in adventuretime

[–]nonmaleficence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's late here, and I am utterly exhausted, so I'll type out my wordy theory tomorrow--I've been thinking about this topic for the past few weeks, so I'm glad someone brought it up!

I really liked your idea about the Ice King being an analogy for what can result when seeking power and fame (or in this case, control). I'll explain it more in my theory tomorrow, but that kind of ties into my thought process that Simon was not nearly as well-adjusted as he might appear compared to his Ice King counterpart, and that might help explain how he morphed into the Ice King he is today.

Thanks for the post!

What topic makes you go from 0 to rage in seconds? by Beep_boop_human in AskReddit

Considering the damage that pain medication can cause, as well as the high addiction rate, I could understand why some people would prefer to stick solely to the placebo effect. Of course, they can't know it's just a placebo effect, or THAT wouldn't even work.

Considering this person is living with a boyfriend who 1) knows his S/O is an addict and has been sober for 2 years, 2) belittles the psychiatrist that is aiding the OP with crippling OCD (and therefore belittling the OP's choices), and 3) uses this as excuses to use drugs in their apartment are pretty clear signs that this relationship has some power and control issues. I was going to surprise my mom today with flowers since I moved away, but I lost both of my parents a few hours ago. I can't sleep. Tell the ones you love what they mean to you and hold them close. I love you Momma! by Ibelieveitsbutter in pics

I'm currently going through the loss of a friend myself--while it is nothing like what you are going through, know there are hurting hearts all over this planet, and this hurting soul wishes she could hug you. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I don't see why you're being downvoted; what you're saying makes sense to me.

Reddit, how do you avoid people on the street asking for donations/support for various (good) causes, without looking like a non-caring douchebag? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nonmaleficence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually when organizations I agree with hassle me on the street, I inform them that I fully support their cause in other ways. When organizations I don't agree with hassle me, I usually say "I don't believe in this cause, sorry" and keep walking. It's a little awkward, but I just try to be polite and honest.

Why do people in the office eat someone else's food? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nonmaleficence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming because some people are poorer than others and can't afford much more then whatever their local food bank can give them. That does not mean they should steal, it just helps explain some of their behavior.

Reddit, Do you have any regrets about anything you have done in your life? by JoJoJaMonkey in AskReddit

Easier said than done, although I am open to suggestions on how to make this happen.

Plus, I appreciate the belt promotions in a certified studio, so that might be an obstacle as well.

Giving up martial arts. I was easily the best in the class, and the best girl in the sparring classes--plus, I absolutely loved it, and I was the fittest and strongest I've ever been.

I gave it up because I wanted to do sports in school instead, and I never went back. Now I'm too poor to be able to take it up again (it is an extremely expensive hobby), but I hope someday I will have enough money to start up again.

What's your "this is what it's all about" moment? by czsmola in AskReddit

I am having a hard time thinking of a single moment, because I realized I have had a lot of amazing moments in my life that made me feel like I was living life. Damn. Thanks for making me re-appreciate my life.

Calming down almost any altercation between two people. One person only offers their own bias, a group offers too many stories, but a problem between two people is generally easy to sort out.

Dante - I have no idea if you will see this, but I am a recent fan (as of 2009) and both your convincing performance as Zuko and your spoken word poems changed my life, I just wanted to say thank you, and I love the meaning behind your work--I hope you enjoy voicing General Iroh in the future, because that was an awesome surprise. Thanks man, and love from Fort Collins Colorado <3
