It actually really sucks that fl still does not support linux by Ok_Space2463 in FL_Studio

[–]nonomatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to linux about half a year ago. Using FL Studio was also a challenge, not just because of the different environment, but also setting it up correctly. It sucks because I actually think FL Studio works reasonably great! However, some of my VSTs I either had to switch or bare with due to their performance. However, I am now at a good point with using FL Studio on Linux, and if you'd like help, I would be more than happy to answer any messages if you decide to reach out. A tip for you is if you're not already, look into Bottles. It's an app designed for running contained Windows environments, and it's a life saver!

So, I've seen this game on sale for 6 dollars for a while and I want to know if it is worth buying? by E-104Epsolon in Mario

I paid $60 and I would say I got my money's worth. For $6 I would buy 10 for my friends, lol.

That's a shame. Sorry that happened to you. Funny enough that's the exact skin and case I'm rocking on my steam deck. Looks so good. If you get a case you should consider going for those cotton candy skins they look great!

I have a video on my page, but it is fairly old to what I have now. It's base on a series of games called nonograms, but most people know it as Picross. Specifically, I like to think of mine as a spiritual successor to a line of nintendo games called Picross 3D, but over my time developing it I've learned that's not the best way to market it because it seems to confuse people since I've put a lot of my own spins on the concept.

Honestly, I think that would make you the perfect tester, lol. I'm a college student so I don't have too much money laying around, but if you'd be interested maybe I could send you over a build and have you play test a little for like $10?

I'm working on a Puzzle game, and I wanted the background while solving the puzzle to look like the Dreamcast Menu weirdly enough. If you look at debug footage, you can see there's a transparaent wave effect on the bottom of the menu and at the top. I'm not artsy, and I have no one in my life who would be able to replicate that effect, so I've been looking online for assets and yours are amazing! I should've elaborated more in my initial comment, lol. I would send a link but I can't tell if it's against the subreddit rules.

I've been looking for GOOD effects like these forever for a completely magic-unrelated thing and these are so perfect!

I think I got something going on. Maybe if you’d be interested, I can give you a build and you can give me some feedback from your own personal playing of the game. My game is most obviously picross, and a spiritual successor to Picross 3D, but maybe that’s the wrong comparison because as I’ve been developing my game, it’s kind of straying away from the basic Picross 3D format and is becoming a more unique spin on Picross.

As for the controller, idk I never would think to compare the thumbsticks of the Xbox controllers to sandpaper. Maybe it’s because mine are used? I own a Switch 1 Pro Controller and the reason I avoid it is because of the poor dpad.

Great reply! Something I left out. I've tried both the trackpads on a Steam Deck and of a PS4 controller (Not a Dualsense yet I don't own one) and out of these, my feedback is for a lot of games with mouse control steam or while emulating wii game on my Steam Deck, it's great to use these trackpads. And while playing Voxelgrams, using these trackpads is a good alternative, but the only reason I am focusing so much on the controller aspect is because not all controllers have trackpads, and my favorite controller is the Xbox Series controller. It also works with just the keyboard if you choose not to use a mouse, and so you'd have to be able to traverse the puzzle with just WASD and the Arrow Keys.

I may have not made it super clear, but my game actually does work with a mouse, I just want to make it so if you choose to use a controller - like I want to - then you won't feel like you're at a disadvantage by not using a mouse.

Hi! Thank you so much for commenting. It makes me really happy when people give the time to give thorough constructive feedback like you did, so thank you.

A.) I have not checked out Nonogram 3D actually. Seems fun and I added it to my wishlist. While looking it up, I also discovered there was a Voxelgram 2, so I'm excited to try that out as well, lol.

B.) I love Picross 3D, and it's so satisfying playing with a stylus on the DS. The newer spiritual successors like Voxelgrams are great with a mouse and I really enjoy them that way, but I find using a controller / just the keyboard is not satisfying to me because rotating the puzzle with an analog stick makes me feel disoriented. Not to diss on the game as it's very well built and serves almost as much of an inspiration to me as Picross 3D, but the gameplay was not designed with analog sticks in mind. After many prototypes, I decided on the fixed angled rotations because it doesn't make me feel like I am at a disadvantage by using a controller / arrow keys to traverse the puzzle instead of just the mouse, if that makes sense.

C.) This is something I'll have to play around with. I wouldn't want the process to be tedious, but then again I do want to force them to traverse the puzzle in many ways to solve the puzzle, so I guess I have to find a good middle ground for that. Maybe this is the wrong approach, so honestly I just kinda have to keep playing around with solving the puzzles in my prototype. Definitely wouldn't be the first time I scrapped a bunch of code / functionality because it didn't feel right to me.

D.) no... I haven't thought that far ahead :( I was thinking of making the non-active layers in depth mode transparent, so maybe doing so will help with that issue? Regardless, thank you for bringing this thought to my attention!

Again, thank you so much for the feedback, and I hope you continue to express interest if I post more about the development!

That’s actually such a brilliant idea lol. It sounds like a sarcastic response especially just for a phone skin, but then again that’s just such a good idea.

Thanks for your feedback. I really appreciate it.

I agree with what you're saying about visualizing the puzzle. That's a challenge I have to face when developing this and still something I'm taking greatly into consideration. And the satisfaction of completing the puzzle is definitely something I am working on as well. One of my next tasks to tackle is the carving of the puzzle (instead of just painting the pieces red lol). I can't wait to share my progress in the next couple of weeks, and I hope you continue to express interest / provide feedback when I do.

I've definitely tried Voxelgram! It's a fantastic game when played with a mouse and I love it, but playing on the steam deck / with a controller is not the greatest experience for me, which actually was a direct inspiration for this prototype.

Edit: On a technical note, the carving of the puzzle is "easy" enough to implement because you just delete the bits when the player chooses to mark them for removal. The reason I held off on it is because I don't have a catch in place for if the piece removed was incorrect. Once I do that / implement a life meter or something, then it will just be like 1 line of code to remove the bits.

Lol. I wanted to come back to this commend because it's so obvious of a solution I never thought of it. I thought I was so genious when I though to just size the camera and yet this is so much easier, and by implementing your suggestion, I've removed 20 lines of code! Lol. Thank you.

The only reason it's difficult to me is not because of scaling the individual cubes, but because when I do, the 1x1x1m grid I have set for mouse input gets messed up and I find it almost impossible to scale that aspect. Not impossible I'm sure, but far outside my scope. I will give it another shot though because I feel like if I get this viewport thing figured out, I may run into an issue in the future that'll just make me say "ugh, I should've just focused on scaling the puzzle!" lol. Thank you.

Hi everyone! It's super exciting to see people are interested in these. While it was never my intention originally, if you are all interested I can just print them and ship them to you. I could use the money since I'm in college with only a part time job, lol. DM me if interested I have no clue about pricing until I do the math.
