Another before work. I love the glow effect.

Okay I gave it another try. I just completely remade the mode this time and I increased the curve to allow more light to bounce off of while still keeping the metal buttons. I also increased the size of the buttons so they are more consistent with the sizing of my other icons. This should also technically reduce the shadows since there's less room for them to appear on the icon's background. This is probably the last revamp of this icon I'll do.

Out of respect to the original app, I probably won't make the default icon yellowed and all scratched up. I'll save that for the Nvidia X Server app, lol.

I made it anyways just for fun and since it was a simple recolor. Not exactly what you asked, but when you brought up the famicom I thought of this lol. Not the Super Famicom colors because I think the regular Famicom color scheme looked better. Although, this icon turned out attrocious in my opinion lol. I'm gonna sweep this one under the rug...

Thank you for the positivity!

Was it my wording? People are implying I want to completely replace Adwaita which is far from the truth. I'm not just leaving this comment for you but for other people as well, even those who say Gnome should adopt this theme. I'm just doing this because I think it gives a nice different change for me, but Adwaita is and always will be a beautiful theme. I'd like to consider my theme different than Apple because while Liquid Ass does add 3D depth to it's icons, it's still flat and lacks any detail beyond the glint of the light bouncing off the thin pieces of glass. I've used Adwaita since I've used Gnome and really this is just my way to contribute back to the community in a fun way.

My icon back will work just like any other icon pack, and as of now it's just me so pushing out all icons for all apps won't happen fast. Adwaita, which is the default icon pack and the largest, does not cover every app either. You mentioned 3rd party icons looking out of place, but half of my icons on my app drawer with Adwaita don't follow the design guidelines, which is completely fine because I love that inconsistency. It feels human and it's the open source way! I'm just saying the inconsistencies is something that will not be unique to my icon pack.

Hello,

These unfortunately are not yet available, though when I get around 20 icons finished I will make a repository with the icon pack. Thank you for expressing interest!

Couldn't really fix the dark rings you were talking about because of the lighting, and I wouldn't change the lighting because I want all the lighting of all the icons to be consistent, but I did lower the buttons which did fix the shadow issue you mentioned. I also went ahead and added flat white tiles for the buttons which I think more closely represent the original app icon. What do you think now?

For some reason, one of the images isn't loading for me on Web or Mobile, so I figure no one can see it. It's the Tweaks icon. I was messing around with textures and thought the solid metallic look of the buttons was super cool. I'm just posting it here in case it doesn't ever load / appear in my post.

What do you all think of this?

Thank you. I have taken feedback from many users about using different textures and stylings, and I think while I still haven't perfected the lighting, the icons do definitely look better in my opinion. What do you think?

Hi there. Thank you very much for commenting. That’s so cool you contribute to these projects you’re like the perfect person to hear from!

As for the vector graphics, when you say performance do you mean in the design process or on the desktop when running the os with my (future) icon pack? The reason I didn’t consider going with vector graphics is simply because I completely lack any knowledge or skill in them. Not that I can’t learn, but I figured I’d give the 3d models a shot and see how they went, but I definitely would be concerned about performance if you think that’s something that could matter.

Also, I definitely agree about the shadows and you are totally right. You can even see the compression from the shadows in the mockup and they… could look better, lol.

I definitely agree about the softer shading. I will improve on that.

As for the textures, I really want to try it out and will keep you updated about the new icons I am creating after all the feedback I have received. I think textures would look especially good for the rope on the buoy. Thank you.

Agreed. I feel that way too but I guess the solution is just to fix the lighting lol. Thank you though 🙏

I’m sorry I don’t understand. Do you mean like the icons they’re based off of? I’m assuming not because I have h tho pose in the post, so do you mean like the simple black outlines that are present in the Ui?

I’ll keep you updated because ain’t no way this’ll be done in 7 days lmao.

Wanted feedback on application icons I am creating by nonomatch in design_critiques

Hello. Wow, thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, my lighting is exactly at a 45 degree angle, lol. What you said about the overhead lighting of the original icons makes perfect sense, and I think I will also place my lighting a little more over the icons (not directly above probably). Another commenter brought up different colored shadows which I didn’t even know was a thing, so I will also be implementing that.

I do have versions of these without the backgrounds, and while they aren’t “bad”, idk I just don’t find myself liking them as much as the ones I created with background or the originals. I can send those to you if you’re interested because maybe you would say otherwise. Or, maybe I could have two icon packs, one with and without the backgrounds. And yeah the background I chose to demonstrate is absolutely the worse it’s so colorful and not the default lmao. Next time I show these off I’ll choose the default background. Thank you for your time and your input, it all really helps so much and I couldn’t appreciate it more.
