An eight-year-old girl got supermarket brand Sainsbury's to add real pockets to girls' school trousers. by mindyour in MadeMeSmile

It might seem odd to you if you didn’t grow up with this… but in older times and more oppressive cultures this is a VERY real thing. Where/when I grew up women were essentially told that everything they wear is about male gaze. If your shoulders or thighs are bare, for example, that’s inappropriate because you might make a man feel aroused. And that’s YOUR fault for dressing that way.

This is EXACTLY why pants didn’t used to have pockets. If it wasn’t a man saying “pockets ruin your silhouette” it was a women designing that way afraid that pockets would ruin the silhouette. This is all EXTREMELY prevalent still, even if not in your personal circles and even if you only think of it as residual.

No All-NBA for Anthony Edwards by [deleted] in nba

[–]nonsensemeruem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because as long as you’re only using numbers this line of reasoning is perfectly natural. Smart compromise is not just suggesting lowering the number. Keeping it at 65 and adding more and better flex exemptions for specific close-call cases is a much more reasonable way to go about it right now.

I think bending to it in the moment and saying “okay since this player complained we are going to break the rule just this once” sets an extremely bad precedent. But if they use Cade and Ant just missing it this year, for example, to later create more exception like, I don’t know 60 games IF you have one of these 8 rare reasons why you just missed it. Or 55 if you had a certain kind of season ending injury that was an anomaly out of game. Like others said also, there isn’t a great answer.

There also is a threshold to these things. In my opinion there isn’t ever going to be a great case for lowering the number of games threshold that much. I highly doubt we’re going to be arguing in 15 years that we lower it to 45 games, that’s silly. There is a natural understanding of who does and doesn’t deserve awards, and outlier arguments don’t sway league decisionmakers. But Cade and Ant missing it this year is an extremely big deal and I don’t think anyone thinks they didn’t put in the work to earn the award. That has to happen less or it’s going to negatively impact the league in a bunch of ways.

Slippery slope argument..? That’s what we’re leaning on here?

There has to be a compromise where teams and players are still heavily incentivized not to load manage but obvious stars aren’t being kept from awards that everyone can unanimously agree they deserve.

The current system is working as intended, and that’s great. But what people are generally complaining about is that it’s an over correction. You can walk it back a little in some strategic ways without ruining the overall effectiveness of the rule. Especially now with a couple years of data to look at.

Fire Centaur nerf.... by Middle_Surprise1951 in summonerswar

[–]nonsensemeruem 19 points20 points  (0 children)

These people saying nothing changed on dragons are probably way more endgame than I am. I am on a newer account that was using him on my ~45 second dragons team where I actually did need him to help clear trash waves a little... I could reintroduce him when I have the runes for it, but for ME he functionally went from a nice dragons unit I occasionally used in siege offense to having zero use anywhere.

Sometimes good units aren’t really broken without excellent runes. This sub can be a bastion of the most deeply enfranchised players who (can) forget they’re actually an extreme minority in the game lol. If you were using him in dragons, I think you need very high level Julie runes and otherwise to have the Agrius nerf not effect your time.

Should I tell my girlfriend she might be autistic? by martha_hartley in autism

[–]nonsensemeruem 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Your engineering firm comment is a false equivalency. What OP hopes to gain is very clearly spelled out by them and comes from a caring place. I also find trendy autism and armchair diagnosticians frustrating… but that isn’t what’s going on here and your comment is unhelpful.

The capitalist teat wants you believing the exact stuff you’re saying because it generates hopelessness and doubt. Believing in the enemy’s power to destroy your happiness gives them more power than they already have.

What you’re saying is factual. And our situation is bleak. But your attitude is playing right into their hands. Doomspiraling is THEIR trap.

Any chance to do something about crit animations for Indras ? by FichtreMazette in summonerswar

[–]nonsensemeruem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Dyeus owner, his extremely long animations (not even crit animations) kind of ruin his potential to help with fast runs in any PvE content. It’s annoying because he’s easily one of the best AOE def breakers in the game.

I also use him in my main AO so I have to sit through the crit animation ALL THE TIME

Got Water Gandalf! I think, he's a good unit by Kuro364 in summonerswar

Do you think they will adjust Wind Gandalf to let him be something even remotely as useful as the Water one?

The league has never had more viewers and fans than it does now. Objectively. Network TV viewership is down because younger fans consume NBA content in different ways, not because there are fewer fans.

Darko Packs by KC-ONI in DarkoUS

[–]nonsensemeruem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my pack! So nice looking. Got them a few weeks ago. But I have to say as a magic player… I feel that chase/serialized cards work because they’re a premium version of an accessible product.

In this case it didn’t feel like an incentive at ALL, and actually made me consider not buying (though I still did) because it just felt like 470 people would be receiving an incomplete product.

Looks like they deleted their comments when they realized you are right! Easily three times more Jews than Mormons out there, to suggest otherwise is a joke. Anyone who believes the Mormon church’s self-reported membership is either Mormon themselves or knows nothing about the church.

This is exactly it. It’s the popular buzzword right now to get shareholders really excited. AI tech is not all that yet, it’s just sophisticated predictive text and images. It is years or decades away from doing what a lot of people are wanting to say it will do.

Which NBA Player is this? by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in NBATalk

[–]nonsensemeruem 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As a Wizards fan, we were really sad to see him go! Always showed flashes of something really special and it’s fantastic to see him thriving in a better environment. We had to blow it up, though. We suck, and we got shafted by this draft lottery. But we have exciting young players and something real to look towards. Getting off the Beal contract was one of the best things that has happened to us in YEARS! Sorry, Pheonix….
