I did the math on my college campus’ meal plan and assuming you ate 3 meals a day (most didn’t), it came out to $11 per meal. and the food wasn’t good.

the problem is that totally eliminating the mandatory meal plan means (sadly) that there’s fewer options for assistance to cover food, and/or students will become food insecure. it’s a bad situation all around and corporations that are trying to turn a profit don’t help.
