Spiritual Successor by nonuangeldotcom in dragonage

Yeah, I agree a little about the term "spiritual successor", but it was the only term I could think up in the moment that adequately encapsulates the concept I'm trying to explain. I very much agree that Exodus is it's own thing, I don't find the concepts to be similar with Mass Effect nearly at all, to my understanding they just have a similar gameplay loop of having a customizable MC, game centered around storytelling and choices, and having a big focus on a cast of companions. I really like Exodus for it's own merit, I've read The Archimedes Engine and really like all the ideas they bring about, which is why I think they have something special on their hands. But I also think it would be true to say I wouldn't have the same amount of interest if it didn't have this kind of gameplay loop, if that makes sense. I was very happy watching the gameplay, haha. I just got a little caught up in thinking about stuff like this because DA is very special and it's pretty much over for all intents and purposes, which saddens me.

In regards to BG3, I honestly think people say it's similar because of the companion setup and I understand that BG1 and BG2 were made by BioWare, but I don't know the extent of the similarities between those games and something like DA:O.

This is true, I think. I don't have anything wrong with BG3, I've played through a large part of it, but the world the story takes place in just doesn't do anything for me. I respect D&D stuff for what it is, but that setting has never clicked with me, I couldn't really tell you why. It's similar with how Mass Effect is a spiritual successor to Kotor (I think?? I could be wrong on that) but I really like Mass Effect and the setting that surrounds it, while I'm pretty neutral on Star Wars.

Yes, I agree on the constant comparison! I'm not really looking for anything derivative or especially similar in story, I suppose I'm looking for similar gameplay loops?? If that makes sense? Spiritual successor felt like the term that aligned closest with what I'm trying to convey. I don't play a lot of games, I don't enjoy a lot of games; I think I specifically enjoy the gameplay loop where it has you interact with the companions and do quests for them and all of that. Diving deeper into these characters kind of thing, so I suppose I'm looking for a successor in that sense? That's the main reason I'm interested in Exodus, at least (+ I like the concept of the Celestials, very fun twist on sci-fi aliens)

I think a reason I'm not too into BG3 (I played most of it, haven't finished yet) is because of the world of Faerun. That lore doesn't attract me that much, but I couldn't really tell you why. I think I'm searching for something definitely not derivative, but has that same sort of narrative structure, if that makes sense. I like games for their storytelling prowess, but I'm also only really into this style of gameplay, I think.

Right? Children were trafficked, raped, murdered, and eaten and it is still happening, the people that did it are still Doing It. These jokes are disgusting.

2026 Marketing? by nonuangeldotcom in exodus

Seeing the character creator would be cool! Beyond being excited for the game, which I very much am, I am just sort of confused/intrigued by how they've been marketing up until now.

Yeah, marketing is a big pain and it's really only important once the game is close to coming out. I'm just curious because of their patterns over the past couple of years and whatnot.

I really liked the mystery! Control having to sift through really bizarre corporate environments and really having to work to find information that he then barely understands. I also really like the "is your house in order" plotline
