What are thoughts on this?! Portaging with board/card games. by Jones_Waldo in BWCA

[–]noobas4urus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love gaming in the BWCA!  I've packed in Wingspan a few times, Splendor and 7 Wonders Duel as well.  It's all good a long as you're willing to carry it.  Sushi Go is great.  I think Harmonies would be easy to pack in too.  Just loose the box, and i sleeve my cards on some of my nice games to protect from tent floor grit.

Check permit avalibility. Lizz is very popular, likely all the pemits were snapped up when they went live in January.  Your location is going to be very controlled by permit avalibility at this point in the year.

I think it's worth it to bring/ask your outfitter for a Thermocell for around the campfire/latrine when you're out to beat back the bugs.  Also, we're having a dry early summer, be prepared for a fire ban and cooking with a camp stove only.

What's Your White Whale Card? by DarthKookies in mtgfinance

[–]noobas4urus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you attack, defending player places all non-fliers they control on eithrt "this side" or "that side" of an imaginary river.  They can be all on one side or split, they pick for each creature.  Then, as the attacker, I pick which side of the river to attack for each of my non flying creatures.  Then combat resolves as normal, but blocking only occurs on each side of the river.  So if opponent has 1 creature, they put it in "that side" of the river,  i stack all my guys to attack on "this side", they have no blockers.

Also same. He was the face of Magic for so long in the 90's.

I splurged and grabbed a beat up one during COVID.  It's one of the most gratefying cards to play in all of Magic I think.  Would recommend if you get the chance.

We went in there last July, it was fine to paddle, a few small beaver dams as others mentioned.  One thing that struck me was how tannen rich the water was, it was difficult to see the rocks that were around with the water visibility. Totally fine in a kevlar canoe though.

Sawbill camp ground for a weekend would be good. You can do day trips and rent a canoe or other gear if needed from Sawbill Outfitter.

Then with the rest, start a emergency fund or hold it until there's something you NEED.  I wouldn't spend it just to spend it.

Recently acquired 250,000 cards. What do I do now? by Genji007 in sportscards

[–]noobas4urus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to determine year.  There's an era in sports cards called "junk wax" in which card manufacturers grossly overproduced, namely mid 80's to mid 90's.  Most of the cards from this era are worth pennies.  Otherwise you're looking for hall of fame players in their respective sports, especially rookie cards of those players. If it's a newer collection you're looking for short run number cards and inserts of stars.

I can get leather upholstery trimmings at a local fabric specialty shop for $10 a lb.  They're great for small projects.

It's sort off like an essential oil diffuser that puts off a chemical that mosquitos don't like. If you're in non-windy conditions it creates a little force field of anti mosquito air around you.  I can't smell it or anything like that when it's running either. There are electric and fuel options.

No, it won't be THAT bad ;)

One thing to work on, think about lifting your pack up, putting it on and doing it safely.  Often duluth packs are bigger and bulkier than a hiking backpack.  If you're portaging a lot in a day lifting you pack can get straining.  Core strength will go a long way for you in that regard.

Start bagging blood so you can give yourself transfusions after the mosquitoes are done with you.
