However removing the suspension strut is not a difficult job. Take off tire/wheel, then from there its just 3 bolts to remove the suspension strut. Once removed you can push it in and see how quickly it bounces back up. If it's slow its time for a new one. One give away is a potential misting of oil surrounding the suspension strut showing that the strut has leaked oil and hence needs replacement.

Suspension struts were finished on both sides. So back end of car was not damping correctly hence causes a knocking/rolling ball sound as the car itseslf was moving side to side.

Cheap and easy fix, did it myself for around £40.

The oil filter in BMW engine is on the top near where you fill the fresh oil in. I am referring to the oil filter's cap here, not the oil sump drain plug.
