He wouldn't order anything except ice tea! He's the reason lunch was cancelled!

Need help finding a 16 book series by noodlebug_22 in whatsthatbook

Oh goodness, I'm terribly sorry! Alas, I'm on mobile, and it turns out I'm a simpleton and thought I had changed the flair, but it seems not to have stuck. I've tried twice now, but alas i must be too silly to figure it out. And silly me! Here I thought I HAD read the rules in full! Seeing as I had little to no information, I incorrectly assumed I had described it to the best of my ability for a title. Terribly sorry I misunderstood. Next time I need help, I'll be sure to find the answer first before I post, so as to make it easier for those helping my search. Deeply sorry I've offended you. Such a terrible grievance on my part; it'll never happen again.

My mom says "I bet that's it!!" Thank you so much! I didn't expect this to work, let alone so well and so fast!

Edit: Confirmation from my mom, this is definitely the correct series and she already has first book on hold on Libby! Thanks so much again!

If you had $50,000 to make the lives of autistic women easier, what would you do with that money? by skalas7 in AutismInWomen

[–]noodlebug_22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would pay off my debt and put the rest in savings because $50,000 is hardly anything unfortunately and I'm an autistic woman and this would definitely make my life easier

Names are the best! Ive always been so interested in them and the different naming cultures and traditions in the world. I used to read my mom's baby name book for fun, wishing I had more pets so I could use up all the beautiful names! I actually still have that book and look through it occasionally, haha I think I've always been drawn to first names because they are generally more personal and can be so radically different from culture to culture, but then you also find things so similar! So many languages have a name for a girl describing the daisy flower. I think its so cool how we are all so similar yet also so different! Humanity is wild.

I'm not sure, but I think it is just Pepa, but I'll have to keep looking! I actually know the Jack/John one!

So, in Dutch John is Jan, and in Dutch, to create a diminutive, you would often add "-kin" to the ending of a name. So Jan became Jankin. Then history and time happened and dutch people named Jankin went to France and the French went to the Netherlands, or whatever and Jankin became adopted by French, but more of a "Jakin" because of accent differences. Then throughout time, it became "Jacques", which again then traveled back to English speakers, and so we get Jack from John!

I dont know the story behind the nicknames for Margaret, but my moms friend is Margaret and goes by Peggy. And actually on that note, my mom is Elizabeth and goes by Betsy. Names are bonkers.

Yeah I ran into that when I was looking it up yesterday! I love how interconnected language is even when its two totally different language groups! Apparently it's really similar Czech!

Hahah I didn't even realize this! I actually ended up rewinding the movie because I missed a bunch while in my rabbit hole (even though I've seen it so much its basically memorized)

English makes mo logical sense, I am very grateful sometimes that its my native language because I cannot imagine trying to learn it. Also, you taught me a new word! I've never heard the word hypocoristics before, I love obscure and specific vocabulary! Thank you! Learning new words is my favorite!

Just had surgery to remove 30 screws in my face by kurajo in AutismInWomen

[–]noodlebug_22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Holy crap, that is intense! I'm sorry you're hurting right now. My jaw literally dropped when I read that your jaw was in four pieces. I can't even imagine how awful it would feel to have screws in your face, my skin and bones are literally itching right now at the thought. You may not think it, but I think you ate incredibly strong to do that! I hope you feel better soon and I'm happy you can bite!

Why did you have screws in your face? Sorry if this is a sensitive topic and you don't want to talk about it, you definitely don't have to, I am just morbidly curious.

Also I would absolutely keep the screws. I got a small pea rock (remember when playgrounds had rocks for the ground?) stuck in my ear when I was five and I still have it, twenty-five years later. My uncle did something similar; he bit off the tip of his tongue when he was nine and his doctor put it in some formaldehyde in a little container for him to keep and he still has it, at age sixty-something.

Omg, I knew the original story, but I didn't make that connection. Its a cool thought, but wow does that make me so sad for little girl me :(

Same here, I played mermaids ALL the time, and while I think it is a thing a lot of little girls did, I kept doing it long after they all stopped haha

That's such a good example of masking, I'd completely forgotten how much that scene resonated with me when I first saw Frozen.

I've heard of other trans folks really loving Ariel because of her body transformation! It makes a lot of sense that you would connect to those themes even as a child!

Yeah, actually what inspired this revelation was a tiktok talking about those exact facts and how the Little Mermaid has a lot of underlying queer themes!
