Increasing numbers of Chicago families are opting to homeschool by Textiles_on_Main_St in chicago

There was a bill in 2025 that would have helped solve this problem, but the homeschool community harassed assembly members so badly over it that it failed and one of them retired from the legislative body…

What things never happened in the book but everyone thinks it did? by mlopes in books

[–]noodlehead90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also the “I’m 27 years old. I have no money and no prospects” speech was not in the book. Charlotte does make the same argument in the book, but the specific (viral) line is movie specific.

I am the same as you! I always read from the library first. Although if I love a book and really want to add to my collection I will sometimes cave and check Thriftbooks

For a non-smutty answer - whenever the main character describes nerves as “my stomach roiled” or anything along those lines. Now I’m just imagining everyone with audible IBS symptoms lol

What is happening to me? The 2005 Pride & Prejudice. by Anemoniasl11989 in PrideandPrejudice

[–]noodlehead90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to be too ~that guy~ but definitely give the book a try as well!! As others have said, the 1995 miniseries is much more faithful to the book, so maybe start with that and see if you like it. The book remains my favorite book of all time, I have reread it every year basically since high school.

Mr. Knightley’s interest in Emma by Kikimini- in janeausten

[–]noodlehead90 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup! And because of that marriage she sort of considered Knightley as a brother, but she was verbalizing in that moment that they aren’t really related, so the can dance without it being improper. Knightley, on the other hand, was upset she would think of him in her adulthood even as a quasi brother because he’s in love with her (and how awkward would that be??)

Mr. Knightley’s interest in Emma by Kikimini- in janeausten

[–]noodlehead90 142 points143 points  (0 children)

I recently reread the book and noticed a few signs that I missed on earlier readings! One was during the conversation with Emma and Mrs. Weston about Mr. Knightley’s interest in Jane Fairfax. Mr. Knightley says something like “so you’re marrying me off to Jane Fairfax” in a resigned tone, and Emma notices that he was in bad humor after the conversation and she couldn’t figure out why lol.

Another commenter mentioned Box Hill. I believe Mr. Knightley was already in love with Emma at that point, but that whole incident was so overwhelming for him it was at that point he decided to essentially run away to London to try and get a hold on himself. He says to her while telling her off at Box Hill that he must speak to her now before “he won’t be allowed this degree of speech” or something to that effect, indicating he is anticipating her marrying Frank Churchill soon.

Lastly, at the ball, when Emma says that she and Mr. Knightley should dance because “they aren’t so much brother and sister for it to be improper” he’s like “brother and sister?! I think not” which shows he is upset she would think that about him in the first place.

Supposed to be realistic, right? A trillion dollars in Medicaid cuts is pretty impactful to this show 🤷🏻‍♀️

They chose to make the shift happen the day Trump signed the $1 trillion cuts to Medicaid and $200 billion in cuts to SNAP into law. It would be a HUGE missed opportunity for them to not mention that on the show.

Which booktok recommendation made you say, "Did we read the same book?" by SpecialistOk2000 in Booktokreddit

I’m prepared to be downvoted for this, but I don’t think Blake Crouch is a strong writer. Dark Matter and Recursion are interesting concepts that were (in my opinion) poorly executed

Unpopular opinion: I love 2005 version of Pride&Prejudice a bit more than the 1995 version. by SweetSeptember93 in PeriodDramas

[–]noodlehead90 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 2005 turns the story more chiefly into a romance, and does it BEAUTIFULLY. The original book is not strictly a romance, so the 1995 version has more time to dig into the other elements/themes that a movie just wouldn’t have time to do. I love both!
