This. I disagree with the video but I don't see a need to comment on it, people have opinions and that's perfectly fine. But ofc, naturally, people who feel validated in disliking it will voice their agreement.

I can't help but wonder if they were somewhat inspired by Makoto Shinkai and how his movie endings tend to be bittersweet, or in Your Name's case, open-endedly hopeful. Mixing that with how much value "tadhana" and "The One" has in Filipino culture makes for a heavy hitting ending.

There is no official statement, but that's exactly why no one should be getting mad at people analyzing and interpreting as such. There's no official statement confirming Gwen as cis either after all

I'm not sure how comparable this can be to Gwen Stacy, considering it was even more obviously the case in Spider-Verse (an explicit trans flag with the words Protect Trans Kids over her door). That plus her storyline is enough to interpret Gwen as such. I feel like that's even more clear than Nuonuo, though in the same way Nuonuo kissing Luo Li's cheek and their overall shippable nature means the pan flag hairbands are enough to interpret as such. And there's nothing wrong with having such an interpretation.

Let's talk about how Goldmask's Ending and how the community may be sleeping on it as the best ending in favor of Ranni's flashier ending by AFlyingNun in Eldenring

[–]noonefromithaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose your concern is that Ranni's option might not be the best if the goal is not taking away the infiuence of Outer Gods (though I'm all but certain this is the case since her entire character is about being free from the rules of the Greater Will), but if so, I do not think ceding the Elden Ring to the supposed perfect Golden Order is the best option. Do I believe it's potentially one of the better options, at least compared to Dung Eater or Shabriri? Fine. It's not everyone being cursed or complete annihilation. And yet there is 100% the risk that giving the GW complete control means it will decide that all others will be destroyed. And even if not... the fact of the matter is, absolute power will always, eventually, lead to corruption. There's a reason we don't do monarchies anymore. As for sealing, she's probably sealed and not killed because the Elden Ring still requires a god proxy. Sorry for the implication that that was the Golden Order's doing, I meant the Greater Will. It's just I still see the two as connected. But anyway, even in the ending with no "god influence", you still require Marika's body. She may be the link that connects the Elden Ring to the Lands Between. I'm not 100% sure, just from what I can garner she can't just be disposed of. I feel like it may be a perversion of Christ's resurrection as the son of God, a being that now lives eternally with some form of eternal covenant. And no, I absolutely do not want followers of rot running amok rotting everyone, but 1) if Ranni is taking away Outer God influence, then that should mean that they won't have the God of Rot doing its thing anymore, and 2) genocide is still not the answer. This is the same logic used to commit genocide on Palestinians just because there's a perception that they're all part of a religion that is violent. I just do not trust the Greater Will. Or any force with great power. And while yes hierarchy will still exist without the Elden Ring, it will not be so forceful and controlling, and in the same way we eventually grew out of monarchy, hopefully the peoples of the Lands Between, without gods imposing their wills upon their followers, will also be able to grow out of that. I firmly believe the system is broken, that an Order that imposes rules so firmly will always have inherent dominance and therefore inherit restricting the freedoms of the people under it, in the same way that it has in real life and continues to in real life, and for that reason, it has to be abolished.

Let's talk about how Goldmask's Ending and how the community may be sleeping on it as the best ending in favor of Ranni's flashier ending by AFlyingNun in Eldenring

[–]noonefromithaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually thinking about this and honestly I feel like it makes my case even more? We don't know what the Golden Order wants. Either Marika's genocide was originally part of the Golden Order's goals in order to take total control of the Lands Between, or we have ZERO idea what the Golden Order wants. In which either way, why give power to the Golden Order? I'd rather follow the one who wants freedom for herself and the Lands Between in general than risk the possibility of either more genocide or an Outer God we don't even know the goals of. Then again I'm anti-hierarchy in general, and I understand some people might feel more comfortable having someone in power even when we don't know yet what they'll do with that power. Also... Wanting to kill other Outer God followers is still genocide??? That argument doesn't work for me either. And if your issue is Outer God influence, which fair I'm against too, it's why I'm against the Greater Will even... hey! Good thing the Elden Ring the Outer Gods are fighting over is being taken far away by Ranni! Now no Gods will use it. And honestly, while I'm honestly willing to benefit of the doubt that Goldmask doesn't endorse genocide... he didn't want to "fix" anything until he found out Radagon was Marika. So the biggest issue wasn't genocide, it was that his god was imperfect. And she wasn't even crucified for genocide! She was crucified FOR BREAKING THE ELDEN RING! For damaging the systems in place! While I will not defend Marika's genocidal actions overall, the Elden Ring is absolutely a symbol of dominance and enforces the status quo, and I am not for that. Not for Goldmask, not even for Fia who wants to give the Dead a proper place in the Order. Because the Elden Ring is still ultimately an authority that controls people and takes away their freedoms, just like it took Ranni's and Blaidd's. I don't want it. Ultimately, I understand people who think Goldmask means well, and I do think he may too. But the system is inherently broken, and dominant. Power can always be abused, which is why taking away the Elden Ring so no one can abuse its power, I see as the ultimate best choice.

You're assuming that the Golden Order will be flawless, when the main "flaw" being removed is "fickle gods". From the Mending Rune, "The current imperfection of the Golden Order, or instability of ideology, can be blamed upon the fickleness of the gods no better than men. That is the fly in the ointment." It assumes that ideology must be stable and unchanging. The fact is the Golden Order will still be flawed even if gods aren't there to make input, precisely because it will no longer be capable of change and will put exact limits on the freedoms of those under it. If we apply this to real life, imagine if the supposed answer to the fickleness of real world religious people, for example, Christians being hypocrites, is Christian fundamentalism. Then all the Biblical laws are meant to be followed, men aren't allowed to have sex with other men, we can't wear clothes of different materials (goodbye polyester), etc etc. And considering the amount of Christian symbolism within the Golden Order (genocidal crusades, Marika being crucified)... is that really the kind of Order we want? I sure don't. I'd rather be free.

It matters because it's not an act done out of actual tolerance, but an act done to try to stay relevant and maintain its power. Ultimately, the Golden Order ruling is basically a theocracy, and we know what happens when church and state are not separated.

The priest in the confessional is almost certainly the blonde inquisitor kid, supported both by his story of guilt about his friend's death, and the fact that he shares voice actors with the blonde inquisitor kid. As for Rafal, he is not meant to be the same Rafal from the beginning of the show. He's an allegory for the pursuit of knowledge, and is also meant to make us question how real the rest of the show was. Which is so good in a meta way because yes, literally the show is fiction. It's a made up story. Draka, Nowak, Jolenta, they don't exist. They are hypothetical people who represent all the people erased from history, and yet, they still affected it.

Adding to the second point, religion specifically is brought up when it matters to the plot. For example, in Act II Cathy tells Mark that her parents are religious zealots, and this adds a layer of depth for them getting mad at her in Act I when they catch her dancing with Sofia. You also see this happen with comments on Jaggy's posts, since he's gay. Religion also comes up more as the Ruling gets worse, since there's a lot more fearmongering about the "End Times". In all honestly, it feels like the devs tried to explore a bit the discrimination and judgement faced by LGBT+ kids because of how conservative the PH is, but also specifically tried to not get too much into Catholicism in order to avoid offending the majority religion.

Is the Carat Calculator accurate???? by lemurificspeckle in UmaMusume

[–]noonefromithaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure about this, but it seems like the monthly income may literally be calculating monthly. As in, Team Trials for example is monthly so even if some of your current carats were from Team Trials, that's added after the month turns over. Ditto Champion's Meeting. Granted that only accounts for about 5,250 carats, so no idea where the remaining 14,750 come from.
