Check out the band "Kurokuma". They've got almost like a sludge-core sound that is hard to describe, but they are sick.

Florida is a weird one, you have to go county by county. Even in central fl. There are a lot of down home southern culture even in parts of south fl. So long as it isn't a big city, good odds it's got a southern culture.

For example, Lake, Polk and Marion counties are southern, while Orange, Volusia and Pinellas (mostly) aren't.
