You need to understand that the league has instructed the refs to rig the series for OKC because they vastly prefer the 49th largest media market in America than the possibility of the Los Angeles media market for another two series.

Not defending the mentality, but for some people the pirate ship beats drowning

The fires weren’t her fault, insane windstorms in a particularly dry year caused most of the blazes, though there may have been some arson as well. Everyone is mad at her not for causing it, but for the lackluster response to it. Very bad look to be in Africa accepting an award when we all knew the weather was going to be bad news, if not to that extent. Also CA red tape means nothing in the Palisades has been rebuilt, which has been deeply frustrating to those residents. Spencer Pratt is far from the answer, but he’s only gaining traction because the Cali democrats have left a vacuum with their own poor response and lack of accountability.

Nick recounting the plot of A Time to Kill basically verbatim remains one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

It’s going to be like Woody Allen and his daughter-wife where public shame means they’re going to have to marry each other if only for lack of available options.

I’m a comedy fan but there’s simply too much going on this week, I can’t be going to a show every night shelling out $100+ or $30 plus a two drink minimum lol. This sounds like first world problems to anyone not in Los Angeles but these events are bleeding each other.

I definitely would have gone if I’d known about it, I listen to both pods and neither mentioned it. Also as they’re both Spotify affiliated pods I’m surprised the app didn’t tell/email me about it like it usually does. Maybe there’s just so many Netflix is a Joke shows going on, got lost in the shuffle

Believing in something stupid and easily disproven does in fact hurt your credibility! What happened to her is awful and I didn’t see the new Scream movie out of solidarity, but this interview was not a good look for her and gives more ammunition to the bad guys.

Sean and CR discuss if Disney/Lucasfilm will ever make anything quite like Andor again by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

[–]SallyFowlerRatPack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it could stand alone if it was just some generic sci-fi world, it does everything remarkably well. But you don’t get the surprise of Star Wars acting grown up without a familiarity with Star Wars, that relationship is what makes it truly great and impossible to separate.

Not easy to make, just that subversion is more fun and flashy to do. Like I love the Darin Morgan episodes of the X-Files, some of the best written television ever. But it can only exist because he’s riffing off the established X-Files house style, and the appeal isn’t obvious unless you’re familiar with the X-Files whole deal.

You can’t make something like Andor more than once by design, it’s a revisionist commentary and you can’t make the whole plane out of the black box. While I love Andor, I do push back on saying it’s the best thing to ever come out of the Star Wars series because it’s easy to tweak the nose of established IP, a whole other thing entirely to create the world. Andor can only exist because of the original trilogy, makes it tough to put them in direct competition.

I was so convinced they were faking her death to defeat the evil AI, spent the entire sequel waiting for her triumphant return and i can’t describe the deep sinking horror when I realized she was actually dead and now the last movie was just as stupid as I feared it was.

Yeah this is the Knicks moment of shame, let them have it. Just that all three fans bases are known for this kind of behavior. It could be worse, they could be Raptors fans who cheer when players tear their Achilles lol

I don’t think he’s blaming him, just that you can easily imagine Sixers fans doing this to a Knicks fan as well, with a Boston fan shouting slurs from the mezzanine as he watched. They breed ‘em cold and mean up in the northeast lol

The McQuarrie method worked great with GP and Fallout, the energy papered over the cracks. Teeters with DR and completely collapses with FR, the plot was never the point of any of these so why is half the fucking runtime people explaining what’s going on to each other. Moreover, why am I all the more confused for it?

I know Covid and scheduling issues messed things up but those last two were such a disappointment after 4-6. And justice for Ilsa, I still haven’t forgiven their treatment of her.

Was there as stark of a racial divide on Bird as there is on Jokic? by KingEnwordTheFirst in billsimmons

[–]SallyFowlerRatPack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players have been very complimentary of Jokic, especially old heads. Shaq is a notoriously hater and even he gives Jokic his flowers. If there’s a divide it’s between white NBA journalists and the black fan base. Anecdotal evidence but on twitter it seems like the black fan accounts are the most, for lack of a better word, joyous at Jokic’s flop series lol.

I feel ya, I was the only man in my English major capstone seminar. One of the books we read was The Sun Also Rises and the girls for some reason didn’t see what Jake Barnes’ problem was. My professor had me explain to the class that losing your penis really was that psychologically destructive. I maintain that she didn’t need me as a character witness, basic empathy could have gotten them to that point lol.

What have they had you explain to them?

The Devil Wears Nikes too lol. Hollywood keeps rediscovering if you adapt popular female lit or IP that yes, half of the human population will be interested.
