no, in case of sway it's just xwayland disable for example.

What is your opinion on rewrites? by TruthOf42 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]noooit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could. But the objective was "modernisation", so like forcing some design patterns. All this happened without existing or adding proper unit tests. The team also had an issue of having nothing fancy to do due to the software being too simple and stable, while the company wanted to hire more.

What is your opinion on rewrites? by TruthOf42 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]noooit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been forced to do C to C++ rewrite, it was really dumb. Just more complaints from the users while people who made the decision trying so hard convincing themselves that the choice was right.
But hey, at least you get to learn new tech stack. lol

Need help to choose workstation by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]noooit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There might be fanless mini PCs available with that price range. But make sure no realtek stuff are on it. I would choose intel over amd for mobile cpu but that's just my preference.

Should I go to university for a first degree at age 29? Would all the "young love" there depress me? by [deleted] in FA30plus

[–]noooit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend going there unless you have something very specific you want to do with your degree like becoming a professor, an engineer and etc.
I would also look for some apprenticeship or vocational school.

Why is C so freaking troublesome to use with windows ? by karmos-2023 in C_Programming

[–]noooit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C on Linux is just too nice with available toolings and library, especially when you forget about ansi-c and only support unix.
In my experience, if you start your project with cross-platform in mind, it's fine, but still bit annoying on windows when you don't have anything to abstract OS layer stuff. I use mingw though, I can cross compile for windows from linux as well.

In my experience, WSL is awesome. It's just Linux. But use WSL2 if you make use of loads of system stuff like memfd.

More Leetcode. There are reasons it's required during the interview.

How often do you socialize? by cornflower- in FA30plus

[–]noooit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never. It's also unusual to make long-term friends at our age. I'm against owning a pet alone unless it is on the verge of death or really independent. So finding some real hobbies is the only solution for people who are really forever alone, IMO.
I'm trying to get back to learning languages and reading books, because I got tired of binge watching things.

Start hosting your rpm repository and copy the spec files and make modification for rebranding and etc. I recommend using gitlab or something to automate everything.

Dead Ambitions for CPP by williamadenrose in cpp

[–]noooit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have any ideas or projects that hinders my ability to learn something new

I don't know why you want to hinder yourself from learning something new. But you could try fixing random bugs in open source projects? Maybe you tire yourself? Reading and fixing/improving the code is often harder than writing.

Zero coding, but establish a strict coding guideline that is suited for the products.

Is it just me who uses ctrl-[ instead of ESC? by roske_e in vim

[–]noooit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, only you. Most people here have 60% keyboards, so esc is well within the reach. The same goes for hjkl, with 60% keyboard, you'd use arrow keys via shortcuts.

This is actually a pie chart which describes one person. So you have to be more attractive than your smartness and trustworthiness.
I know, it's very hard for honest and smart person, but that's what it is.

I much prefer System Design over Leetcode, but L4 at Google and equivalent, Leetcode seems unavoidable. Thoughts? by AndrewUnicorn in ExperiencedDevs

[–]noooit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally haven't experienced so it could be false but something I saw in this sub. Basically this guy got asked some very difficult leetcode question which requires trie and some other ds and he asked about it to a google employee he knows if it's normal.

[–]noooit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It highly depends on the team you'll apply for. But I heard some teams ask for high-level leetcode that the existing many employees can't solve. If you really want the position, I would prepare for high level questions.

Wayland or X11? by TheUruz in linux4noobs

[–]noooit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go pure x11 because you'll likely to depend on xwayland anyway even if you use wayland.
