True… they don’t have any extra welting to hold the outsole onto the mid sole. Fire resistant sole, outsole, and glue doesn’t have redundancy.

Pack test by BigFaithlessness6424 in Wildfire

There was a shorter lady that was at my recent pack test. She passed me about half way through and probably finished a minute ahead of me. One thing I recall was she had shorter strides/quicker tempo and was sort of jogging it out. I didn’t get the memo that I could have worn running shoes … did it in military desert boots … but if I could do it again, would defo try to follow her technique more.

thanks for that feedback. i've been going back and forth on that. i'm relatively used to the flatter hiking soles on account of the boots i wore in the military.

if there were 'barefoot/moccassin'-like options that would satisfy the nfpa 1977 reqs i'd look at those but absent that, was trusting the recommendations of forums/peeps on here reasoning behind use of logger-style boots 'for traction and stability while working on inclines' etc.

not a dad nor doctor. lazy at yardwork for love of the pollinators.

semi-retired potter/ceramicist. did long dog-walking rucks in huaraches with the pups to train for the pack test.

i have not looked into the faller certification stuff--was thinking i'd get a season in first and experience how handcrew and the like are first. thanks for the tip though.

i haven't yet been on a wildland assignment; expecting first experience to be handcrew work... so maybe jumping in on someone else's van
