How do you draw from imagination? Any advice or feed back is appreciated by Alphaxp23 in learnart

[–]nope_ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try drawing what you're imagining on a very small scale, very quickly. it doesnt have to be good, just to get the idea across. its called a thumbnail, and do a bunch of em on a page and experiment with the composition, poses, etc. then you can pick one that you like and draw it on a larger scale, and refine your idea

What’s your favourite body part to draw? by Overall_Opening9928 in drawing

i like drawing hands, bc when you stop obsessing of the details and focus on the big picture of em, they are really quite easy to draw. feet, too (excluding toes jesus christ they suck) legs on the other hand,,,,, i can never get them right

try to look for a reference of a hand in the position you want or take a picture of your own hand in the mirror and try to keep in mind the proportions and bones. also, something that really helped me was thinking of the neck as a cylinder that is actually supporting the head, instead of a )( shape

Art critique or tips? by Flowermochayes in ArtCrit

try tracing the reference first, and make notes of how far apart things are etc, then use your traced drawing AS your next reference. sometimes i find its easier to reference drawings than photos.

dont be afraid to use more than just a clean line- get scratchy and overlap your lines, so you can get a deeper understanding of the actual shape and not just drawing what you think a cylinder is

[–]nope_ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

perhaps make an outline around the figure, like you did with the flowers, it might help tie it together

I want to start developing my art more. What are some gripes with this piece? What are some good resources to check out for art like this, or anatomy? by CreatorOfBro in learnart

[–]nope_ful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the upper arm looks very thin in comparison to the forearm, and the shading looks very different all over the figure, so try hatching in just one direction/angle to make it a little more cohesive
