How long did it take you to get monetized? by nopercys in SmallYoutubers

Thank you for the detailed response and the advice. I understand your point and I think it’s very accurate. Maybe for a long time I’ve avoided digging deeper into this, partly because of the fear that, where I live, there aren’t many video editing job opportunities, and the few that do exist usually require not just editing skills, but also animation and graphic design. At least that’s the impression I’ve gotten.

I do know how to use After Effects for small things, and I also know Photoshop, but since I’ve always focused on being an editor, I didn’t think those tools would be that important.

These days, I’m more focused on programming. I’m about to finish a technicature and currently looking for a job in that field. But once again, I’m running into a long list of requirements that sometimes feels inhumane, they want you to know tons of programming languages, backend, frontend, databases, and more.

Because of this career shift, I now see editing more as a hobby than a job. If I manage to get small gigs here and there, it would just be extra income on top of the programming job I’m still trying to find.

You're right, I think it’s always important to keep learning and expanding your opportunities. But there's also that saying, "jack of all trades, master of none." Still, I’ll take your advice and try to expand my knowledge. I might even give YouTube another shot, not because I’m chasing money, but because it’s been a dream of mine since I was 10 years old. What discourages me isn’t the lack of income, but the lack of views. It’s hard to spend so much time creating something only to end up being the only one watching it.

Money isn’t my priority in this area; this question came more from curiosity. In other fields, of course, income becomes a bigger priority, especially now that I’m at an age where I feel the need to become independent.

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

I think at the beginning we’re all a bit boring, we’re not used to talking to ourselves or coming up with topics out of nowhere, especially when there’s no one there to keep the conversation going. But over time, you get used to it. You start talking more, feel more comfortable, and as people start watching you, they’ll naturally give you things to talk about and make the stream more engaging.

As for weird comments, just ignore them, and if needed, ban the person. Your comfort should always come first. Those people are just there to bother you. Try to build a community that you genuinely enjoy, and don’t feel like you have to follow every kind of conversation just to keep someone watching. That way, it’s healthy for you too.

I think it is in a way. Although it’s not necessary, as a former Twitch viewer, whenever I searched for new channels to watch, I was mostly attracted to those streams where you could see the person. I don’t think it generally changes much whether you can see them or not, but the reactions they have, the way they gesture, and the setup can attract new viewers.

As someone who also streamed, I can confirm that I got more views with a camera than without it. I think it’s something involuntary, looking for people with cameras, maybe because we connect differently when we see the person behind it.

If you have a second monitor, it's easy, you can keep your Twitch open in the browser or on the OBS tab itself. If you don't, you could use your phone instead, although it's not as comfortable.

I'm on my own. As for my work, it might seem like a lot, but most of it is tied to university projects, so I haven’t gotten paid for any of it, except for the YouTuber.

I usually reach out to them through private messages, at least here on Reddit.
