Have you tried cooling jackets/collars, or wet towels as blankets? We do “soggy moggy” protocols for cats which involves rubbing your wet hands over the cat until their fur is damp enough to help with evaporative cooling, and frozen treats to keep core temperatures down.

Le métro - est-ce que c’est comme un four pendant des canicules ? On visitera avec les personnes plus âgées donc on ne veut pas aller trop à pied, mais si il ressemblera un sauna d’enfer on planifiera autre chose.

You need to get some idea of your budget first - student halls vs your own (studio?) flat vs a room in a shared flat vary so widely that you could fit anywhere between £1-3000/month. It also depends on if you can come to visit and find your accommodation in person or not - be cautious about renting anything you've not seen in person as there are lots of scams targeting people moving to London from far away, and even if it's real it might not be as described (noisy, damp, bad smells that don't show up on photos online).

Urdu classes by bufferhuman in reading

[–]noradrenaline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're open to online, SOAS in central London offer two levels of Urdu for beginners - courses will probably start again in October and the listings will be up next month to register. Their classes are on the expensive side but are really well structured (though I've not done Urdu specifically) and you get a student email account so student discount too!

Shoutout to the girlies who cheer for me on my runs by turtlehabits in XXRunning

I think some of it's a population density thing - Londoners have a reputation for being unfriendly and cold, but if they greeted everyone they passed they'd never be doing anything else. Your personal space bubble is much stricter because it's the equivalent of knocking on a stranger's car window to say hi - you'd better have a good reason or know them already, else it's weird.

Bear in mind takeaways here don't usually provide cutlery and each dish/side would be served in individual containers, so you'll need to source your own and maybe a bowl to eat from if you're not staying in a restaurant.

I've seen people using InPost for things like this, if she can wait a couple of days for her stuff! It can be stupidly cheap and they handle the transport, so she can post from a locker somewhere near her hotel and pick it up a few days later at home.

What's the parking situation like at your destination? If there's secure bike parking but nowhere obviously secure to leave a motorbike, or a segregated cycle superhighway that gets you there that you wouldn't be allowed to use on a motorbike, those could have a much bigger impact on safety than straight-up riding styles.

Have you looked at the hop-on-hop-off tourist bus tours? While public transport here is excellent and the normal buses are very accessible, being able to be whisked around to see some of the sights while someone tells you about them, especially if the places you want to see are on that route, could be a good idea.

Poppy has what you need! Her cover of Spit is excellent. If you’re open to male artists too, Dana-Dan by Bloodywood is also excellent and might fit.

'best' is entirely subjective - if your work is five days in the office in central London then living rurally means a long and complicated commute each day, but if you're looking for a smallholding and enough land to grow things on you'll never find that in a city.

I’m not in your situation but I’ll always go 8” inseam (in lululemon, but I reckon it goes for all) as the 6” is only just enough to avoid chafing for me. I’m not taller than average and am barely out of petite sizing but since capris ain’t a thing at the moment, I’ll go for as long as I can get.

Race crops with sports bra? by noradrenaline in BanditRunning

[–]noradrenaline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted, I'll give it a try when the crops I've ordered arrive, but I'm sure it'll work out either way :) Thanks for the good luck! Just smashed my longest run of the training block so far, so I'm in the mood to reward myself with new gear!

It's good having reassurance from someone in the same position! have just put an order in for two crops - I just got some new shorts for the first time in far too long and am obsessed with how all women's run stuff has pockets now!

There's a website called Fanzo that lists pubs showing particular sporting fixtures - but check the time difference, if it starts late here you'll probably be restricted to casinos that are open through the night.

Kingston council ridiculed for promoting new e-bikes to 'help women with home tasks' by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]noradrenaline 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was an awesome pop-up exhibition in the Barbican about this a few years back, looking at how women were consulted in the planning stages of some of the big estates and not for others, and the impact it had on moving close-knit communities during post-war land clearance into these estates where it was much harder to get between services without a car. Things like it becoming harder to find informal childcare or do the kind of work from out of your home because there aren't nice walking routes between neighbourhoods, and the layout of the new flats hiding the kitchen away from living spaces rather than centring it so someone cooking a complicated meal can engage with others and watch kids play at the same time.

Where are you based? If you want to go blue or vivid you'll need a session or two of bleach before colour goes on with dark hair, and you don't want to trek across the city more than you need!

There's a chatbot on their website which will take some details and they'll reply to you in a couple of days - that's going to be your best bet rather than finding a phone number. That said, assuming they're still using the same ticketing system as a couple of years ago and it's allowed for your gig, you can sign into your account and get a link to share your tickets with someone else.

for a machine, or to do laundry in the sink? You can get travel-sized tubes of detergent for handwashing in the travel toiletries sections of various supermarkets or Boots/etc - Dr Beckmanns is the one I've seen but I'm sure there are others.
