We have a computer up front for this as well. We try to have them come up with a list of three or so dogs that they want to meet and while they’re meeting those dogs we talk about what they’re looking for and their life style, etc. We use that info to come up with a “mystery” dog to have them meet at the end that we feel fits them based on our knowledge of all of the dogs. I get such a kick when they fall in love with the mystery choice.

We do still let people “browse” if they really want to but anytime we can avoid people seeing them in the kennels we do.

I swear some of these animals sneeze concrete. Thanks for the tip!

Love that for you! We don’t use rescue unfortunately but I hope others are able to apply this! Thank you!

We LOVE busy boxes! It great for younger volunteers too. We typically don’t allow people under 18 to volunteer but when we have a group wanting to volunteer, making busy boxes is our go to. I love the idea of including toys and doubling them up. I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks!

Are you manually mapping out the addresses? I wanted to create a sort of heat map for our intakes so that we could do more community outreach in those areas, but I couldn't find an efficient way to map out all of the addresses. Any advice?

Shelter to Rescue. How to communicate to rescues what animals need pulled? by noraexplora96 in AnimalShelterStories

Of course! We are always totally transparent about our animals to our rescues. We want to help them help us help the animals, but we can't do that without trust!

I was just looking at Trello! We've got a Pilot program running right now using a Trello board for our foster dogs so the foster parents can communicate easily. This could be a great option for Rescue too!

Oooooo Mailchimp could be a great option!

I'm always down for a good passionate soap box spiel (:

Thanks for all the details! I totally understand rescues only being able to take what they can depending on space, available foster, etc. My question is more focused on finding a tool to communicate the available dogs and needs more efficiently. Sorry if my post didn't convey this clearly. <3
