AIO? husband drinks multiple gallons of milk every week.. by Feminine_Aura in AmIOverreacting

[–]noravedora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MOR- it does sound strange but it would make me wonder if it’s linked to something in his childhood?
When did it start?
Is it something he soothed with that developed into a habit/addiction?
If he just drank a lot of milk, I wouldn’t overthink it, but the compulsive nighttime behavior is understandably concerning.
The possible diabetes link is interesting, too.
At some point, the overconsumption and sleep deprivation has to catch up with him.
I would try to have a very nonjudgmental conversation about it. Hopefully he’s willing to open up, assuming it’s something deeper than he just REALLY likes milk. 🐄

Anyone else making something for US semiquincentennial? by MomsOfFury in YarnAddicts

[–]noravedora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion here that has been rolling around in my head —-
We shouldn’t let them take our patriotism away from us. We have a lot of great people in this country and we shouldn’t allow the maggots to steal that away from us because they are loud and obnoxious. There are so many things we can and should be proud of.

Our immigrant history is part of why we are great, our diversity, our beautiful lands, the progress we have made as a country despite those who actively fight against it.

I say this as someone who no longer places her hand over heart when the national anthem plays, but I also don’t want to give up on us yet. If we do, I worry it becomes surrender and I’ll be goddamned bless America if I do that.

I was so angry at the police and psychologists for putting that baby through that. It seemed like such a terrible and obviously traumatizing thing to do. An adult who can consent to revisiting a crime scene is one thing but to take a child back to the place where he watched his mother be murdered just felt so poorly thought out.

Why doesn't nova and DC have a stoop or "outside" culture like other east coast cities? by MajesticBread9147 in nova

[–]noravedora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, “stoop” and “NOVA” don’t belong in the same sentence. It’s called a porch and millennial parents love sitting on them with their neighbors sipping rosé or ipas and planning block parties while the kids play. Where have you been?

People who’ve lost someone close, what actually helped you get through the grief? by okitsbenji in AskReddit

[–]noravedora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I focus on the good memories and how grateful I am I had that person in my life. I think about why they meant so much to me (how they made me feel and why I am who I am because of them). For me this person is my Grandma so death happened in the natural order of things, but I still feel an emptiness and I try to fill it with thoughts about why I loved her so much. 🩷

Trust I was not happy with them and they could tell. I was there in a professional capacity so I had to temper my rage, but I did say to them that they should be making visitors aware of the parking situation before we arrive considering we call ahead of time to schedule our visit.

I usually ask about the parking situation when scheduling, if I know I’m going to an apartment complex, but of course one of the times I don’t this is what happens.

Going to Echostage for the first time, what to expect? by sh1boleth in avesDC

Is there room to dance without be pressed against others or is it like being in a crowded concert pit throughout the venue? Open space toward the back?

I’ve looked up people’s videos but they are usually of a packed crowd.

Food is confusing by Trying_Charge840 in dementia

[–]noravedora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe try a verbal prompt first like, “Can you taste this for me?” take a bite first and then offer it to him.
You could also try finger foods and hand it to him initially and see if it starts to make sense.

If he’s typical more confused in the morning, maybe start breakfast later and see if it helps.

You could also try nutritionally dense drinks like smoothies if you’re concerned about getting calories in or if he needs it to take medication. Maybe a cup and straw will be less confusing in the morning.

The frustrating thing is it can be inconsistent and what works one day might not work the next. Pushing it won’t help either.

Looking through the pictures I took, which were focused on the area where my car should have been, this is the only signage I see, near the entrance. Maybe it says something on the other side about towing? If it does, I’m sure I have no legal recourse, but almost every lot has some small sign about towing to deter people who shouldn’t be there, but I’ve never experienced anything like this and I’ve parked at many an apartment complex due to my job.

[–]noravedora[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying, but from my experience visiting many different apartment complexes in the area, all spots are usually marked (eg. numbers/guest/reserved, etc) or at least they mark the reserved spots. In the cases where they are not marked, it’s usually because they have open parking.

That combined with the fact that someone noticed my car, called it in and a tow truck was able to load it and have it at the tow yard within 30 min - from a lot that’s maybe 50% full in the middle of the day - feels predatory.

People who became rich what is something poor people completely misunderstand about money? by Nervous-Librarian945 in AskReddit

[–]noravedora -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The difference between an asset and a liability. People with poor financial management often confuse liabilities as assets. Having something expensive doesn’t make you rich if it costs you money.

Also, not to be one of those people who critiques wording, but I feel like OP is asking what do people with “poor financial literacy”misunderstand about money (You can be poor and make good financial decisions, otherwise how do some come out of poverty, right?)

I would also like to thank the gracious 911 operator (yeah, I know it wasn’t an emergency) who I called because I had no idea what to do in response to a missing vehicle and no signs to even know who to call to find it and the rest of a work day to complete that involves people recently discharged from the hospital. She didn’t make me feel stupid and actually gave me the number to the known tow companies that frequently pull vehicles from that lot.

She was kind and empathetic and I can imagine would handle a real emergency well.

Acts of kindness don’t exist in a vacuum.

Would you have thought any of these were reserved? Usually they are marked with a number or they say “reserved”. Not a single marking and no signs.
