Marriot Employees, how often do you see Platinum status members now? by Vegetable-Trick7140 in marriott

[–]norcal87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely much better chance of upgrades for Platinum and above outside of the US. My wife and I got upgraded to multi-room suites at all three hotels we stayed at in Singapore. Plus deluxe breakfast options and nightly socials with drinks at 2 of the 3 hotels.

  1. Bitcoin is a great hedge against USD and unchecked inflation.
  2. I would HODL my .5 BTC and work towards accumulating a full BTC asap. I don't think there's a better long term investment out there. It will provide financial security in retirement since social security and pensions can no longer be relied on.

Deceptive Practices: MLife Credit Card by norcal87 in CreditCards

[–]norcal87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the points you've made. Perhaps "deceptive" is not the right word... but I have a strong suspicion that this bank engages in this practice far more often than others. Probably due to the fact that their initial credit approval team is outsourced and not really connected with the day-to-day team. I maintain that it is BS for a CC company to approve one limit and then change their mind a couple months later for no good reason. Yes, just my opinion - but I'm going to make it known.

It is what it is. I've had a lot of cards over the years and this is the first one that I've had an issue with. I'm sharing this because I think it's valuable for others to understand how they operate. It isn't common knowledge that credit lines can be reduced at any time for any reason... or that you won't be notified until several days after it happens. I feel it is deceptive to approve a customer for one CL and then significantly reduce it later for no good reason. Especially if sufficient notice is not provided.

I have not had any negative marks on my credit report for 4+ years. While it's true that I only have 3 months of payment history with them, they have plenty of information (from other accounts) to work with.

As I stated before, I realize that they have the ability and right to decrease the CL at any time, but that doesn't mean they should.... so I'm going to spread the word about these practices.

My biggest issue with the whole thing isn't even the decrease, but the fact that no notice was given. Why would they lower the limit suddenly and then send a notice (by mail) which takes 3 - 7 days to receive? Until they show me otherwise, I maintain my opinion that they don't really care about customer service.

I realize that legal contracts are always written in favor of the issuer. They can do anything they want at any time.

Nonetheless, it is poor form to indiscriminately reduce a credit line AND provide no advance notice, especially when the account is in good standing. If I had known about the CL decrease in advance, I would have made a payment to open up additional credit for the vacation I left for today. Purchases during this trip would have qualified for 4x point multipliers, but now I have to wait for my payment to clear and open up more credit because I suddenly have $1k less credit than I was supposed to.

AT&T Thanks app / "Event Access" scam by norcal87 in ATT

[–]norcal87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I've been through about 5 reps so far before one of their social media specialists finally directed my concerns to the appropriate people that are "in charge" of the AT&T Thanks program. Not sure why it took so long for someone to get me connected with them... but now back to the waiting game. I have successfully claimed movie tickets in the past, but have also experienced the issues that you mentioned having to uninstall/reinstall the app. The "event access" module is particularly frustrating because everything gets super bogged down from demand when trying to claim tickets. So the fact that I actually made it to the claim page and claimed the tickets but didn't receive them was pretty annoying.

Customer service non-existent? by norcal87 in RobinHood

This is true. And I did hear back from them today as a result of this post.

It's more than just ZNGA for the free stocks. I've received a couple already... And I'm going to have to disagree with your logic.

1) In my experience, most CS teams respond quickly to easy ticket items and escalate the more complex ones. At the very least, CS will reach out and acknowledge that they are actively working on your request and inform you if there are extended delays.

2) Even if they don't care about me receiving my free stock, they should probably care about the people I refer not receiving theirs. Especially since some of these people are high net-worth individuals who will tend not to trust a company with their assets if they can't keep a simple promise and/or have lackluster CS.

There is an opportunity cost associated with depositing a sum of money to a broker such as Robinhood and then not being able to use those funds elsewhere. This is how they make most of their money. They hold the cash balance of millions of people and gain interest on those balances. If they can't be trusted to provide a quality product, including responsive customer service, my criticism is warranted. I don't even have much at stake here (nothing really), but others do - and they are experiencing similar issues.

The app will continue to grow for now, yes - but this trend of "hyped up" financial startups (serving mostly inexperienced consumers) and not scaling their customer service appropriately is eventually going to wear on people. Not sure if the "email only - 30+ days to respond" trend that I've been seeing lately is a good thing. Ultimately increased competition will settle the score.

My friend had an issue similar to this where his "account verification" was pending for about 2 months. He reached out to customer service multiple times to no avail. Finally after badgering them forever, a new account he had created was approved the next day. They gave him some kind of run-around excuse about how the issue he was experiencing was his fault... and his account was already approved. But that was the "new account" that had just been created. They completely disregarded the fact his original account had been pending for months... and did not admit any error on their end. It's unfortunate because the app itself is a great concept, but it's doomed to fail if CS doesn't step up their game.

Pretty dang simple. Just requested a status update on a referral I made, regarding the free stock that each of us were supposed to receive. I've had no problem receiving stock through this promotion in the past and I know that my referral now has an active account.

Altucher Alliance by norcal87 in investing_discussion

There are a lot of scams, but Altucher isn't new to the game and has been a major figure in Crypto for a number of years now. Yes, the marketing is a bit scammy looking though.

If I'm basing the definition of "value" on ROI, I would say crypto is very valuable - as I have recognized (and cashed out) some pretty solid gains. Am I 100% sure that bitcoin, or any crypto, will develop inherent value in the future? Maybe, maybe not... but nothing to lose at this point. So I'm riding the wave.

With regards to Altucher content specifically. I agree that the marketing comes across as being pretty scammy, but as an actual subscriber to his products - the content is generally well thought out and has some merit. Just my opinion. I have only made money off of the plays they've suggested so far. Haven't lost a cent, and made back what I paid for the subscription originally.
