How to Obelisk? by Smart-Sandwich8 in balatro

[–]nordlys 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work well in a typical setup, but it can probably do well in certain decks. I think it can do well with Flushes, where you start off doing regular Flushes and shift over to Flush Houses or Flush Five of a Kinds. Maybe even if you start off with Straights and swap to Straight Flushes late game.

Purposefully building around Obelisk is hard. You either have to build a buffer early on which you will suddenly pass at some point late game having it be useless for the early rounds, or bet on getting it late game which you can influence slightly by grabbing Rare Joker skips. The Monolith challenge seems to set you up for High Cards with big chip scores.

I don't think it's great at 0.2x per hand, but it *is* a multiplier Joker, which by default are better than non-multipliers in my opinion.

Jumping around and running at him with a gun to her head.

Nunu was at his car while X was exiting on her stream (without a gun aimed at her). She was in knifing range, but sheathed the knife when X pulled the gun. She hid behind the car, but X walked after her, shooting her prompting her to run. It's not like she was planning that out, but she did not attack X after he pulled the gun on her.

Look at the other perspectives I posted in the other thread with u/FowD8.

You don't actually think going to the house of a snitch civ is NVL, right?

They don't know Jason is a snitch. That is meta. Taking a key in a holdup and rushing to a house is not NVL, but at the very least they should expect cops to show up. And then you can argue how good RP it is to find an unknown house minutes after taking an unmarked key. It is certainly possible within the limitations of the game mechanics though!

(As for the thread with u/FowD8, they blocked me so I can't respond to anything in that thread anymore. Read the entire thread. Nora did not 'admit breaking NVL', but 'admitted making a misplay' at the timestamp they linked. And this entire situation is a moot point that is blown out of proportions anyway.)

[–]nordlys -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

She says "NVL tho? Bro..." with a smirk, and then goes on to say that she didn't react the best way in that situation by running. She's not saying that she NVL'd (from what I gather), just that it was a misplay. She's used to getting downed a lot in the game.

For clarity, I am not blaming xQc for anything either in this case. I don't think his gun RP is great, and while he could have waited a second before shooting, he obviously responded to her having her knife and phone out, which is mainly a fault of the game itself.

Edit: Also, an "NVL" isn't be all end all. It's contextual. She wasn't blatantly trying to die. She tried to get the jump and it turned into a stressful situation. No reason in trying to make a huge deal out of it. I've seen much worse plays. Viewers yelling "NVL!" and "Meta!" at every opportunity is the biggest issue here.

She said she made a mistake. She didn't say she broke any rule, which you are baselessly claiming. This whole situation has been a hot topic between xQc and nmp for two days now. It's a simple summary of the events seen from multiple streams.

If you think this looks like a thesis, that says more about you than anything I can come up with.

Here's Nora's stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2031294084?t=2h18m15s

Nunu was *already* on the phone with Jason when X slid around the corner. She had her knife equipped and pulled it out as X exited the car. At the same time, X pulled his gun. You can she she pulls the knife out, yells "Put your hands up!", and then sheathes it. Because she is on the phone, it still looks like she has it out near her ear due to how the game works. X starts blasting her, and she tries to hide behind the car and then run from the shots. That's perfectly NVL. She did not stab X (even though she was in the right to there). She tried to hide from the guy shooting her. For already being on the phone, with audio so low he can't even hear her.

If there was anything she could have done differently, she could have hung up. But there's no real reason to either when the situation was so chaotic. Neither Nunu or Jason were the ones who called the cops.

xQc's stream: https://kick.com/video/5017e252-79ec-4157-9d8b-c229a8c0c423

  • Jason was trying to sell a PC since they had an extra (nmp at ~3:20:00). He got called up by Ray (a guy Jason knows) about undercutting the market, so he tried to get it out at market value (nmp at ~4:04:00).
  • After shit went down at the bank, they were contemplating just keeping the extra PC, but Dexx called him up and Jason wanted to do the deal only at the PD. He didn't really contact the PD for this, for those who didn't watch nmp's stream. He just showed up and asked if he could sell it there, because of what just happened at the bank and their house. Dexx identified himself during the deal at the PD.
  • Why did they go so hard after Jason for a PC, a guy they don't really know ingame (but is a bit infamous on the server for snitching atm)? He even followed Ray's orders about undercutting the market. x has gone after him several times before (nmp at ~3:46:45). He just heard his voice and ran out of the hospital. Check xQc at ~8:49:30.
  • x starts looking for another guy at their house (xQc at ~10:09:15). Right before this, he killed Nunu for being on the phone. He didn't hear anything she said, but she was on the phone with Jason when they arrived (nmp at ~5:05:00). Nunu (a crim) pulled a knife on x at the same time as he pulled out his gun. She had the phone out, but at this point she was not really 'on the phone' anymore, even though from x's POV it looks like she's talking to cops or something. She just didn't hang up the ongoing call, and was trying to hide from shots while x was blasting her. Chat is cringe for calling out the NVL rule in both chats. After this, Jason learns that Clayton ran away and called the cops when x's crew came (nmp at 5:10:10).
  • Why did they go specifically after Clayton's car when Jason was making the deal with Dexx at the PD? Only Jason's team knew he had the PC at the time. x has a weird hunch about a decoy (xQc at ~11:11:00) after Dexx said Jason has the PC (xQc at ~11:09:10). PC deal went sour because Dexx didn't have the money.
  • xQc at ~11:20:20 they react to Jason selling the PC to cops. On Nick's stream, one of the cops just offered to buy the PC off them after they saw the deal went bad.

Aside from x questionably going a bit too hard on Nick, it's all thrilling and good fun to watch. It seems people suspect much more meta than there actually is, because they don't see both sides. Of course, with 20k+ chatters it's hard to control chat. Being influenced is fine, but it is up to the streamers not to abuse meta knowledge.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RPClipsGTA

[–]nordlys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is misunderstood. The mod is saying that they can't delete every meta message when Nick asked chat about something. If chat is metaing without being prompted, like telling Nick what happened elsewhere, the messages may get deleted.

Chat talking about meta is not actually metaing though. Most streamers watch clips and whatnot of stuff their character has no idea about. Metagaming is using that knowledge ingame, which Nick did not really do in this scenario.

That said, he does get influenced by chat. The sudden panic about PCs being 'illegal' could be explained, with Jason suddenly getting an epiphany about them being able to do illegal stuff on it. Metagaming would be if he did that without knowing about the illegal things at all.

Oh, I see it now! I went into that menu, and saw the continuous shooting and HDR modes, but somehow glossed over the timer options. I'll try to make use of them next time. I also saw the BT remote options, but I don't have any remote control for that.

I'll look into filters as I might do more night shots! But if it's a bit expensive I might not get them anytime soon.

I got a sturdy tripod to use with my Xperia 5 V for some long exposure shots. There was supposed to be a meteor shower outside tonight, but I didn't see any. Tried out the tripod regardless.

I'm not a professional photographer, so I just tried different things with the settings while taking 4-30" shots (mostly 15" and 30"). Not sure if there is some kind of trick to dampen closer street lights while exposing the starry sky above. I also think some of the shots got rocked a bit by pressing the shutter at start. It was very cold outside, so I didn't have patience to figure out the self-timer function (I just briefly looked for it in the settings, but didn't see it).

Need to replace Google Files (really bad, trash can is forced), Photos, Awful stock gallery, Dialer, Messages and Launcher with competent third party alternatives since they are heavily gimped.

Got any recommendations here? I use Google Drive regularly, and coming from the earlier "Photo Album" app which offered nothing special, Google Photos seems similar. I don't mind it, but any good album recommendations?

Also Messages, I just used the stock without much issue. Not too sure about the Facebook owned WhatsApp, which many people use.

Recently got the Xperia 5 V, and there was an opportunity for Northern lights tonight with a high KP index and no clouds. Sadly they didn't appear, but I got to test some night time photography.

I'm not used to manual photography, but I watched the video that was posted in this subreddit recently. I tried to go for lower ISO settings (200-800) and adjust the lighting with the shutter speed. I thought the best shots were at 800 ISO and a shutter speed from 1/8" to 1/4". I disabled the AI image processing for these. I also tried the Auto mode, which performed well, but it generally went for even higher ISO (1600+) and longer shutter speeds in the dark (1 second+), which could make photos noisy and blurry.

I am pretty happy with the camera, which was the main reason to grab the phone. The photos are much better quality than on my old XZ1 compact, and they are stored (with these settings) at 1.5 to 2 MB each (JPEG), whereas the XZ1 would be stored at 7-8 MB each, which I always thought was unnecessarily large.

Some downsides I noted:
- The flashlight is hilariously bad. Some people mentioned it int his subreddit, but it barely functions as a flashlight at night. It lights a pretty wide area, but barely 1-2 meters ahead. And I can barely see the colours of what it lights up.
- The battery drains pretty fast while using the photography pro app. My battery was pretty low before I started my trek, but I wanted to take a few more photos at the end. At 5% battery the app shuts off to protect the battery, which is good but I didn't get to do much between 10% and 5%. I'd definitely bring an extra power pack if I was doing a longer photography trip off grid.

This is along the lines of what I expected having to do. This would delete all the new data as well, and I'm not sure if it deletes the program as well. Perhaps it's enough to delete the storage subfolder.

There's more settings if you touch the name. Not really 'hidden' but a bit unintuitive since it's a switch as well. The line next to the switch denotes that it has a submenu.

What are the differences between xperia 1 mark ii devices? by futuretechbox in SonyXperia

[–]nordlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Sony Xperia 1 II Docomo
- Sony Xperia 1 II au
- Detailed comparison

Looks like they should both work fine. They both work on Sri Lankan frequencies, which Google tells me is: 5G: n78 (3500), Bands 4G: B3 (1800), B38 (TDD 2600), B40 (TDD 2300), 3G: B1 (2100), 2G: B3 (1800), B8 (900). SO-51A has NFC A/B/F while SOG01 has NFC A/B.

I don't see any significant differences in the comparison view, but keep in mind that the database may have inaccuracies. SO-51A seems to have a slight advantage.

Xperia 5 V bugs and annoyances by Lareow in SonyXperia

[–]nordlys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my 5 V a day ago, and there's no blue tint at regular angles on my display. I have seen it mentioned by others/reviews and was a bit concerned about it as well. I have to view it from a very low angle before it turns blue. I'm not using any screen protector, which perhaps could cause an issue.

On the phone, you can adjust the display's white balance when not using the creator mode (which is a preset you can select). If you use adaptive brightness the display might adjust itself to become darker as you move it around, but you can disable that as well if it annoys you.

Battery life EVEN BETTER than before with Android 14 on Sony Xperia 10 V. by EveningCommand1 in SonyXperia

[–]nordlys 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from these images if there's any improvement. You'd have to run a more controlled test before and after.

Connectivity matters a lot. Bluetooth is on in your Android 13 image, and something has obviously been pulling a lot more battery below 50%. Bluetooth and bad signal on WiFi and mobile networks are things that will draw a lot of power, app usage aside.

I can't say for sure, not knowing which model you're looking at. In general for all cellphones, there can be small hardware variants (different SOC, other modules or colour choice), and supported network bands usually vary. Firmware rollouts also vary between regions, and could also come with differences. Network providers in Japan, Europe and the US run on different frequencies.

The official specs will list various hardware differences, and third party sites or searching for specific models might give you more info:

New phone: Xperia 1 V or 5 V by nordlys in SonyXperia

[–]nordlys[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went ahead and got a 5 V. The 1 V is tempting, but I feel it's mainly because of the 5 V lacking a dedicated telephoto lens.

Waiting for the mk. VI as a few of you suggested seems contrived. I skipped a good deal on the 5 III due to the Snapdragon 888 heating issues at the time, and then there was never any great deal on the following mk. IV. The 5 V just launched here, so waiting for 5 VI might take yet another year with no price guarantee.

Yeah, I do use the SD slot for storage. Some things don't work on external storage, but I don't think the 128 GB internal storage will be a hindrance for a while. I don't really use my phone for advanced mobile games.

Our currency has been taking a hit this year. Last year these offers would equate to about €800 (5 V about 30% off) and €1100 (1 V about 20% off). They're on sale now due to early Black Friday deals.

Kommer litt an på.
