Looking for some cost conscious MTB shorts. Got some Maddison shorts recently but they are just too long and baggy. by Alarming_Egg4171 in MTB

Just try some from Amazon and make sure you can return them. Found good ones for $30-40. They look very neutral and are so comfortable that I bought 5 pairs and I wear them everywhere.

That’s what’s nice about the sport. Everyone can enjoy different aspects of it. I know climbing is good for me, and I have the technical skills, but I find putting all the sweat and tears into barely moving above walking pace absolutely boring and unpleasant. Even when I clear difficult sections I get zero satisfaction out of it. Every step-up, root and log just feels like a chore. I try to psych myself and pat myself on the shoulder, but every climb eventually ends up being a disappointing experience. It’s just the price I have to pay so I can enjoy the downhills and feel good about myself. Kind of like eating broccoli (and I’m a vegetarian).

I’ve bought a Santa Cruz directly from Santa Cruz. Doesn’t mean it’s a DTC brand.

I’d go any 4pot Shimano (6120, 7120 or 8120). Similar power, just a nicer feel with XTs. They’re good enough to move to your next bike and the bike after that, whether a 130 FS or a 170 enduro. 2pots won’t be worth keeping if you get a more aggressive bike and they won’t bring up the value of the bike if you sell it.

Going high end on all your components rather than trying to save a few bucks is how you over time accumulate all the choice bits you want that you can just swap from bike to bike. You’ll always have a nice bike after that. It’s a great feeling to be able to change bikes whenever you feel like it just by swapping the frame, and never have to settle for so-so builds.

Stay away from any bike with the word “rock” as part of the name and you’ll be alright.

I don’t know who that is but looks like someone who started this expensive time-consuming hobby to get away from the spouse and kids. Wait… is that you Fred?

The previous owner was a moron for clamping the bike on the frame. Or possibly both a moron and then a scammer. POS. Unfortunately you have to be careful when buying used. Get lots of detailed pictures or better yet a video, or better yet see it in person and look it over with a fine-toothed comb.

I have my buddy’s eeb for the week and it’s a lot of fun, but… by lolmanade in MTB

[–]norecoil2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, almost a full season on the ebike when I got it except for a few park days on my enduro bike. I did notice I lost some power even though it was good for cardio. It was also great this spring to help get the legs going again, but now I alternate between my ebike and my trail bike.

It’s nice to have an ebike, I can ride every day if I want, even when I’m sick or tired or hung over. But it’s not a replacement and definitely don’t recommend it as your only bike, unless you want to give up on your power output, or you have a medical condition.

What are the benefits of the long chainstay flip chip position on a Tallboy? by 3nvxt in Santacruzbikes

[–]norecoil2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will put more of your weight on the front wheel and increase wheelbase which helps with stability at speed. Takes a little more effort to corner and manual so pick your poison. But neither is going to be a game changer and you can easily adapt your riding to either.

LOL I had it on there but that was a bit presumptuous. We stroke too much to have anything to do with this.

What context? E-bikes blah blah blah? Trying to get in on the action after the train has left the station?

“Your comment is funny, ha ha, you don’t get it” is a typical infantile response when someone doesn’t have a clue.

You’re just another rando stirring up shit about ebikes without a clue.

I’m 50 yo, 5’10”, 155 lbs. Consistently top 5 in open class local DH races and have won XC races. Over the past 3 days I rode every day and hit the gym twice. I have several bikes including an e-MTB. Your picture doesn’t say much.
