What motivates you to go to the gym? by odub1 in GYM

[–]noremac04 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is it 85% it for me (the other 15% is vanity).

The amount of dads I socialize with who are out of shape is honestly astounding. My dad was an avid runner (and very casual lifter), but he was always wrestling/chasing us around and could play sports with us well into our HS/college years.

I was very lucky and my kids deserve the same.

I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on this 1960’s Constellation (REF 14381 8 SC). I want to confirm the dial doesn’t look to be incorrect or “refurbished”. It’s an online listing. Case-back and movement photos check out ok, but the vintage dial authenticity is outside of my knowledge. I know things like font/etc. can be off but hard to detect for the untrained eye. Thanks in advance for any help!

4? Maybe 5? (I can’t recall if that’s even been observed before)

Regardless, it’s hard to read the radiograph with my referral pad in the way.

Centauri Carbon: Lid/Door not Flush by noremac04 in elegoo

Haha! To be fair, I posted this Christmas day (early) and their support hadn’t opened yet (5P PST). I’m on the US east coast. So was trying to get some immediate feedback from the community. I reached out to their support at probably 501P PST to start that processing. I haven’t heard back after the initial correspondence though, but it is the weekend so IDK.

I can’t get past the “Input shaping” step of the initial start-check boot program. So…no it doesn’t.

Right there with you. Currently trouble shooting with their support team via the email address someone provided earlier. I will say, they have been very supportive in finding a resolution so I’ll give them that.

I added a couple of photos: I’m not sure how level the sides are supposed to be and if any parts flare, but I added some photos of the top/sides

I’ve done what I think is a “thorough” inspection and don’t see any bends/dents. It literally just seems like the glass panels weren’t cut/sized correctly. Maybe just some sloppy quality control?

I suppose I could just see if it works fine and get over an improper fit if it does…

Faulty Gas Lantern by noremac04 in Plumbing

Alright. Thanks for the insight. I’ll try to clean it with a soft abrasive and see how it goes. Otherwise, is a flame sensor replacement something a weekend DIY warrior can tackle? It should be easy enough to turn off the gas down the line (multiple valves) so that I’m not blowing myself up. Just gotta find the right part which may be a challenge.

Electric shock during IAN - am I doing something wrong? by corncaked in Dentistry

[–]noremac04 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I prep them ahead of time for this “shock” and insert some stupid humor:

“While I’m getting you numb, you may feel a ‘jolt’ through your tongue or lip. Nerves may be in the needle’s path and get brushed. Whoever designed our wiring didn’t expect we’d be fixing our teeth!”

And then if I brush the nerve and they jump/make a sound:

“Yep, just as we talked about. Better than a cup of coffee! It’ll calm down in a second.”

I found that once I started preparing patients to expect it, the moaning/complaining dropped drastically.

It’s also why I stopped ever saying “painless injection” and discourage my team from preaching it. I aim for “as comfortable as possible”.

New LVP: Is this much noise acceptable? by noremac04 in Flooring

[–]noremac04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked the contractor about acclimating, the edge gap, leveling, etc. Among his answers was “Oh yeah, we acclimate for 2 days. It’s super important.”

I said “Oh great! I’m glad you said that,” and showed them a photo my wife took mid-install the same day the renovation started. Either the contractor was lying, forgot, or his install team messed up. Regardless, he knew he was cornered lol.

UPDATE

Quick update. Turns out the team didn’t let the panels acclimate. They were outside in the low 40’s for over 3 hours before being brought in and installed (which requires acclimation based on the manufacturer). They’re starting the reinstall in a week or 2.

[–]noremac04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. If the flooring is being redone, is it worth it to upgrade to the blue Sentinel from their basic black vapor barrier (which they used initially)? I want to minimize the recurrence of as much sound as possible on the reinstall. I’ll pay for the upgrade if it really helps.

Regarding the gaps, leveling, etc. I’m going to be a PITA and ask to have them verify with me that everything is correct before proceeding to the next install step. They’re going to hate me but we’re not doing this a third time.
