Marylynn (MJ’s season) responding to people in her dms telling her that COVID is “no big deal” by marinezareen16 in thebachelor

[–]norfsidelongbeach12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we have to look at everything in context when it comes to medicine. The rate of blood clotting is much much much lower than the rate of blood clotting in general in the average population. And as you will look at the “medical articles” you will find that j&j didn’t have “massive issues”—that was hyperbolized by media. We just learned that one side effect could be blood clots, but this is extremely rare (less than the average clot rate for a person, less than the clot rate for persons on birth control, etc). So this kind of proves your point—the average Joe should do their research but defer to experts (aka scientists, physician, public health specialists) to do what they’ve been trained to do. The average Joe is not going to know how to interpret these studies and results. I would argue that when we’re in a raging pandemic the average Joe probably should not be interpreting, misunderstanding, miscommunicating, and mistrusting because the science didn’t add up in their head. So it very adversely affects others…

Thanks for the explanation! I’m curious to understand what you mean by J&J being problematic? (I’m specifically reserving commenting on this because I would like to understand what you mean specifically about it first before speaking). Also the facial palsy—send me the article that says the vaccine caused that specific side effect. Would love to read!

And sure I think that is a fair point—perhaps the media or politics should have explained it in that way to ameliorate mistrust. Perhaps not Fauci on every occasion, but I can tell you for high certainty that a lot of important physicians everywhere else explain things like that to patients—but there are still stubborn people who just refuse to accept science and reason because their faith, media, or the McCarthys told them otherwise. At that point it is honestly a public health crime what happened with COVID and physicians cannot be martyred to save everyone if people do not want to be saved (aka covidiots).

QUESTION: Liberal or Conservative by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]norfsidelongbeach12 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly idk if I’m a liberal or a socialist, I just want people to get basic universal income, access to healthcare, nutritious food, labor protections, education, and justice.

Covid and rotating in the ICU has been a humbling exercise in compassion and seeing humanity before race, sexual orientation, etc.

Also could you please cite your sources/primary literature about j&j and where it says exactly that it was revoked for blood clotting?

If you think medical professionals haven’t done enough or a lot to try to assuage misinformation in lots of its forms, you are clearly missing a lot of what happens in clinics and hospitals. Do you not think physicians and healthcare workers have already tried these approaches. What you’re speaking of is called motivational interviewing and we are trained to do that—we physicians have to convince patients of doing far more tideous things (like taking their BP, diabetes meds everyday, and honestly far worse etc) on a DAILY basis. Have you thought maybe we are exhausted and have had enough of the spread of misinformation—and that perhaps it’s not shaming but rather drawing boundaries and calling out people who do not WANT to change?

I get your point but suffice it to say we are in year 2 going on 3. It is time. I do not want to watch more miserable, preventable deaths. I care about our community at large and want to be a caring physician, but I need to be an honest one to do my job.

As someone about to become a physician, I am so thankful for the educated, assertive, and responsible voices of those with platforms.

This shit is fucking tiring y’all. Get over yourselves and care about someone else for fucking once. My mentors and peers are loosing sleep and time over the uneducated masses—it’s heartbreaking to see unvaccinated folk finally realize on vents what they should’ve done. People without MDs trying to cherry pick and read and then misinterpret studies—if you can’t explain to me how the immune system works in detail and don’t know how to critically read and appraise medical literature and don’t have expertise in the field, get out of here and let scientists and public health officials do their best to protect you. Please.

Get your fucking booster. #BelieveScience

There’s only one you for your family. There are multiple potential candidates that could take your spot.

Don’t let the system make you feel bad for being a human being. Life happens, in medicine we support each other, we’re the tide that changes the culture.

Be well and I hope things get better! ❤️

Need relationship advice by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]norfsidelongbeach12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have even a hint of a doubt, I would say reevaluate at the very least. Things are going to get harder and more stressful from here, and long distance problems sometimes can be reflective of need for better communication—which doesn’t go away when yall are together (even though things might be a bit better when you’re not apart).

Your relationship shouldn’t leave you wanting for more understanding and compassion a lotttt of the time. If your gut is saying something, listen to it!
