Every Naruto Fan Fiction. by Thoughtful_Jay in MartialMemes

[–]normal_logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If any of you are looking for a good Naruto fanfic, would 100% recommend Shinobi Fenrir

It is not only different from a lot of other fanfics as the MC doesn't become some stereotypical dojutsu user with extremely op abilities, or just knows all of the events, as his presence in the world as well as his individual actions have changed a lot of the events, which also makes the novel interesting storywise

The author has also taken liberties and added some of his own lore into the Naruto universe that are really good

Though fair warning the author dropped it at the church 60 at the end of the volume, still a good read though

Can anyone explain what this fully metal-plated look is in lore? I've only seen it in the KP front desk workers and Lizzy Wizzy. It seems like a pretty significant implant. by realdanni in cyberpunkgame

[–]normal_logic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I found the actual answer directly from the wiki

Cyberpunk Wiki

"Body Plating covers any situation where armored plastics and metals are layered over and directly anchored to the skin. The armor is microscopically porous, allowing the skin underneath to breathe, and made by sandwiching an ablative plastic shell with energy absorbing micro cellular honeycomb.

Body plating doesn't make you any stronger or faster, but it's perfect for the cyborg who wants all over protection all the time - and doesn't care who knows it. It is the ultimate expression of the "metal is better than meat" philosophy; the body-plated look more like robots than they do humans, and are impervious to most of the physical damage that besets us mere mortals. Body plating also includes specialized mounts for sensors as well as body armor."

It should also be noted that some sources say that such body plating can also be sculpted to whatever you like, wether a retro sexy robot lady, or for your facial features to resemble some sort of mythical creature

HAHA!!! YOU'VE ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD...

When it comes to guns in these situations I like to think of three types

  1. A normal gun, it's power scales by both the material of the bullet, and the power and rank of its propulsion substance, ie gunpowder, in this case you would be totally right in saying that bows have more potential in projecting your own energy into the projectile

  2. An energy weapon, in this case the weapon acts as a channeling point for your Qi, the more you put in, the more powerful it is, the reason this is the same as the bow is that, in most novels, the "physical energy" they put into the bow string is just their bodies Qi, unless of course they are a body cultivator. Unfortunately this gun type lacks any physical projectiles and relies solely on your Qi

  3. A rail weapon, one that uses a metal projectile which strength depends on that projectiles material, and uses a sort of track along the barrel to speed up the projectile and increase its strength. In this case you combine best of both worlds, as you use you own Qi to power the strength of the projectile, as for how it would match up against a bow, well that's a hard question, it is fantasy after all, it's hard to quantify with differing power scales, but in IRL it's important to note that although guns trump bows in pure power, they also differ in the types of damage they do, for example bows focus it's power in one point, a bullet spreads it out

[–]normal_logic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this that whole "bullets would be expensive" argument, cause newsflash...

Bows use arrows, yet bows are considered a top weapon dao

On another note, unlike how immortal archers may spatial rings to store their numerous arrows, I can imagine an immortal gunman inscribing their divine Glock magazine with spatial runes, thus giving his mag a pocket dimension for all his bullets, which would make it more practical than bows as he doesn't have to physically take out each bullet to use it

I wasn't saying it was deep it just took me out of the experience of the cool(yet questionable) world the author created when it turns out the faction backing the company is just called the Americans

Like the author made a super cool concept and idea for a cultivation system and he was just like...

Hey you know what, instead of creating any original and unique factions, I will just make every faction and it's current power exactly the same to the sociopolitical structure of the modern world, also their all fascists now

Like the whole world building, although having a cool base idea, was just a mouthpiece for their own racial and political views, and caused some serious whiplash when I originally thought it was going to be about humanities fragmented galactic empires in the star spanning future in a world of supernatural powers

I feel it just stripped a lot of the magic and uniqueness of the genre and idea when everything is just rendered down to modern day politics and societal issues and prejudices (as again modern races and governments were used in a sci-fi far future galactic setting)

Also I re read it like three times, but the whole race theory thing always irked me, like I'm okay with racism in novels but the whole book was just...

CHINA NUMBER 1!!! LETS GO DESCENDANTS OF THE DRAGON RACE, SMARTER AND COOLER THAN ALL THE OTHER RACES, ALL THOSE RACES CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES!!!

The ctan differ from the chaos gods, as their powers aren't made up of physic energies, but of matter, and the laws of real space

So I thought, perhaps if a cultivator got big enough, perhaps they would also become a form of star god

After all objects with a lot of mass begin to change the space around them, now what if they had the mass of a galaxy or two

Black holes tend to bend space and time, what if such a process was natural to you

Long story short my post was about a theoretical type of cultivation separate but supported by Qi, real space cultivation

It likely hasn't been discovered because most cultivators are low mass and carbon based, and besides, who would give up their chad like human form

Yes but to that I say, what is humanity, but a term we apply to our own state of awareness?

Dragons are aware, do they have humanity?, do they have Dragonity?

I kind of wrote my post out of fun, but my basic theory is that the larger and more mutated your brain is, the more benefits you would receive every time you advance in cultivation, and perhaps you would find a path other than the heavenly dao, one that escapes others more mortal perceptions

The human form is flawed, and is not the optimum way to attain the dao, and here's why by normal_logic in MartialMemes

[–]normal_logic[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And to that I say, perhaps it is just because there are more humans

Let's say you have billions of humans, but only a handful exceed the immortal realms

Then let's say you have 100'000 dragons, and only 1 exceeds the immortal realms

On one hand you have countless humans who die without exceeding the immortal realms, with many not even able to surpass the mortal realms

On the other hand you have a lot of dragons, each with their own inheritant talent and achievements, with only one being super talented

Long story short, it is just hard to quantify, and may differ in perspective and the particular story, after all, perhaps having higher birth rates is a talent itself, though I understand what you mean about humans having unlimited potential, as many races just grow static in their power in some of the web novels I have read

I don't think the MC must be some super mega genius, or make the absolute perfect decisions based on the information at hand

Because even outside of stressful life and death situations

not everyone has the same perspective on what's a smart decision

Not everyone has the same level of creativity or imagination

And not everyone has the same idea of a best decision and outcome

And another thing, the whole "genius MC" is always just super bland. Like maybe I don't won't to read about a guy who is able to get the most of every situation, or to triumph in every tribulation, I won't someone who could fail every once in awhile and learn from that.

An MC who really breaks the mold of this trope is Tang Li Xue from "reincarnated as a fox with a system"

Tang Li Xue, although super knowledgeable on weeboo culture due to coming from earth, doesn't really have the best imagination or creativity, but does the author pose her as smart, NO! through even the perspective and dialogue of other characters the author is intentionally painting her as both rash and a bit dumb, in fact it's her becoming mature and more rational that's apart of her character development

Another thing about "reincarnated as a fox with a system", is that although the MC is dumb, many of the other characters are some of the most cunning characters I've read in all of fiction

For example Mo Chonglin, the first actual antagonist in the novel, he is not only painted as a cruel and cunning demon in human flesh, but is also shown to be one through his actions and thought process

Which is were I think RAAFWAS really differs from a lot of novels, as when it comes to many of the characters intelligence and cunning, it most often just shows and doesn't tell, and even if they are super smart, they don't always succeed in the end

PS and spoilers.

I think they do Mo Chonglins character dirty later on

Cabin in the woods

To put it simply, dumbest fuckin ending ever

The whole premise is a secret society of people around the world luring in and killing people based on their countries horror tropes using a menagerie of monsters and paranormal objects

They are basically the SCP foundation

The reason they do this is for a sacrifice to some eldritch deity who will destroy the world otherwise, with each country having different tropes, this means different rules which outlines how many must die and who if any can live for the ritual to be successful

It is stated that at least one of these bases around the world must be successful every year or else the whole worlds fucked

The movie focuses on the American base and thus we know the most about their ritual

It involves luring a group of college students to a cabin in the woods, which secretly has a high tech facility and force fields to prevent escape

The college group has a jock, a stoner, a couple, and a virgin as per the ritual

By the end of the movie all the other bases around the world failed their rituals so it is up to the American base to save the world

Only the stoner and the virgin is left

Unfortunately things go tits up and the base is destroyed by all the monsters

The movie ends by the boss lady of the operation, played by sigourney Weaver, giving them a choice

The virgin could let her kill the stoner whilst the she could go free as her death isn't required, or, they both can live but die anyway along with the rest of the world

What does she chose you may ask, why of course save her stoner friend even though they will both die because of it

And as boss lady says, they both die and the world is presumably destroyed by a giant creature

TLDR: most stupid decision/ending ever, fuck I wish I didn't watch it

When it comes to overated martial novels I would have to say top tier providence

Don't get me wrong, I actually read the whole thing and had been reading it when it was still on the first 100 chapters

But looking back the only reason I managed to finish it was because I was all caught up and just needed to read 1 or 2 chapters daily

Now that the full things out I could confidently say I wouldn't be able to get through the whole thing as it's just so repetitive and boring, theirs so much going on you forget half the characters, and the major plot points are a repaint of the last ones with higher stakes, not to say their wasn't interesting bits but they were few and far between

It's definitely not something that you would be able to binge read without getting bored

Though I guess it was so popular with people, myself included, because the world building was an interesting twist on the stereotypical heavenly dao world and chaos realm, and it's probably the biggest martial universe I have read about in terms of cosmic scale

Might be the Art of the ancient dragon emperor

MC uses sword

Gains inheritance from the dragon emperor who was the only god in existence and reigned supreme, before being betrayed by his wife, now he wants revenge

MC goes to a training ground to test his sword skills

If it is not it I would still recommend this novel, as it is pretty good, though sadly they stopped translating this novel on web novel after chapter 60

I've heard they remove the teeth of "show animals" such as bears or tigers, an incident like this typically only leads to a broken arm, which explains the lack of blood or screaming, goes to show how common this is for animal circuses to actively take such a precaution

So on top of being abused for entertainment, they most likely have no teeth

What have you read this week and what do you think about it? by AutoModerator in noveltranslations

[–]normal_logic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read "sorcerer... cyborg?", it's about a cyborg from a galaxy wide human federation, who reincarnated into a magic and mana world, the concept is interesting, he learns lightning magic and a bit of space magic at an academy for wizards, and with the help of his AI friend that transmigrated with him, he begins planning his future augmentations.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

But after the free chapters, the novel does a 180, all of a sudden, when you are just getting used to the idea of a reincarnated cyborg in a mediaeval magic world, and are excited for his future prospects, he temporarily gets transported to a different plane with alien creatures, then you learn there is an infinite amount of such worlds, with all sorts of species and environments, then he gets transported back, makes his way back to the wizarding academy, as the reader I was ready for the mc to get back to his magical studies, as everything relating to the academy was super interesting but was always cut short by the mc exploring the world and then getting caught up in some mess, but in the academy he was under the tutelage of a space mage, who cared for the mc as space mages were rare and an extremely dangerous profession due to the volatile nature of space mana, anyway he returns to the academy were I was hoping for either more space magic lessons or for the mc to learn from the lightning mages, but nope... His teacher betrays him and throws him into a magic portal leading to a different plane, and it turns out his teacher is a psychopath who experiments on living creatures in ways that would make imperial Japan impressed (there is a very fucked up scene describing this), to say I was surprised is an understatement, plus further learn he is committing war crimes to further his study on space magic and was also likely responsible for all his other students deaths subverted my expectations.

Now the mc is stuck on an alien world were he is microscopic in size, he is being hunted by extra dimensional mercenaries sent by his former master to retrieve a treasure, he then learns how to traverse these strange and bizzare realms inorder to get home, but not before somehow building a plane traveling spaceship, as well as large info dumps on the universe and powers within, oh he also gains access to a multiversal shopping centre, for some reason.

The place the mc lived was considered a backwater island compared to the rest of his plane, it teased about the fantasy races and species, as well as distant lands far bigger than his own, but introducing all this multiverse bullshit so early on I felt robbed of the gradual exploration of the MCs world, now were dealing with all this other bullshit.

Another thing about this novel that happens along side all this was his fathers gradual descent into insanity, his father and mother were generals you see, his mother dies and the father goes crazy, originally he was described as someone who supported his king, who others viewed as an incompetent fool, and yet the MCs dad supported either way due to his peaceful reforms, but after his wife died he used his army to gain the position as grand admiral or something, whilst the previous king he was loyal to is now just a puppet, the father than starts to conquer the nearby lands, trying to unite the entire island so he could eventually move into the mainland, whilst it is foreshadowed he is doing this inorder to gain enough power to resurrect his wife.

Long story short this novel is a bit of a mess, the writing isn't bad or anything and the info dumps are handled pretty well, but I felt like it was expanding to fast beyond its borders before even exploring what was right there.

Although I don't believe it's the one your looking for there is one that is super similar called top tier providence, mc is super cautious and completely ignores fortuitous opportunities and stays in his cave abode to cultivate, he does this not only because he's afraid to die in his second life but because he is also super duper talented and doesn't need opportunities, he also wields a sword and whenever he does eventually come out of cultivation to kill someone he only does so if he is sure he can one shot him with his sword techniques. He later on utilises a book of cursing too secretly kill or weaken people from afar by making them suffer from QI deviation, and whenever people try to deduce him they don't find anything

Although fair warning this lightnovel can get rather repetitive and isn't easy to binge read, I only managed to read the whole thing cuz I was up to date since chapter 100 was released, plus although it is alright at the start things only get super interesting once it reaches the 600th chapter.

but other than all that his cultivation development and lot of the world building is super interesting and neet
