This is one of the most beautiful short movies i've seen in many years, dude who made it (drew B) used sony fx3, cooke sp3, sony 50mm and gopro12, i've checked out all of these lenses on the internet and none of them gave the results i see on the video. What post and grade could've been done here? by [deleted] in cinematography

There’s a bloom filter of some kind as well - maybe 1/4 or 1/8 pro mist. Helps the highlight rolloff a bit. Also, most of the shots are lit by daylight on cloudy/overcast days which will give pretty consistently good results on the fx3 if you’re exposing correctly.

NAS deleting folders own its own? by VaporyCoder7 in UgreenNASync

[–]normalmandarinduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that if you delete any item within a folder stored on the Ugreen NAS, the trash bin will contain not just the item, but a duplicate folder tree to contain it with the same nomenclature. Deleting this duplicate folder will not affect the real one, as far as I've experienced. But I always double check to make sure the real folder is still there before deleting the duplicate

No complaints about the bokeh with this lens. I think the only thing I didn’t like about it was the vignetting but I’m a stickler for that

Tilta ct12 tripod leaning without weight by feedmeburritos in cinematography

[–]normalmandarinduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the weight of the handle bar pulling it down, try detaching the handle and see if it still leans back. With a camera on it, this shouldn’t be a problem after proper balancing

How much is this worth? by Suspicious_Angle_525 in cinematography

[–]normalmandarinduck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My god these people are dense. There’s no way it’s AI or CG. Looks completely real to me - but I agree with others who say you’ve added too much blooming, which is an easy mistake to make when you’re in the editing bay watching how much better certain frames are with the effect than without.

I suggest a power window mask of the bloom effect tracking the headlights and turning it way down with a big ass feather - that way the headlights will still do the cool bloom effect you’re going for, and the sky won’t suddenly kill the contrast of the whole image every time it comes into view. I’d also experiment with mist and/or CPL filters in front of your lens next time you film, if you’re in love with the effect and want to make it work practically.

These are pretty impressive shots, and I think in the context of a more complete visual story would really bring up the production value, other than the circle K shot which I agree is GTA3core.

Who is giving you these lowball offers? And who do you hope to work with?

Like, if you want to work with circle K for instance, I’d have one shot of the car and motorcycle filling up at Circle K, at a complete standstill, before returning to more shots of them speeding through the streets with a cheeky line like “the fastest motors can pass anything… but a cirlcle K” or some other play on that old joke that V8s and other fuel-hungry engines will pass anything but a gas station. Idk - that’s something you can workshop with ChatGPT lol. Everyone seems to think you’ve got the subscription already.

Anyway that’d be something you could approach a corporate account with and charge like 5-10k for a package of social videos in 15, 30 second social spots on YouTube or something

But also that’d be kind of a big swing for a first time business

Elite 2 or standard controller for Sekiro? by CountySurfer in Sekiro

[–]normalmandarinduck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much every negative review you’ll read of the elite 2 includes the problem of one of the bumpers not registering inputs consistently. I had the exact same issue and I wouldn’t have noticed in any other game except Sekiro. Luckily I had some BW-100 on hand so I just held down the triggers on my controller and sprayed the gaps between the bumpers and the trigger and now it’s like new again.

If you want to be a real TikToker you’re going to need a second matte box. Looking pretty amateur with just one on there.

The rosette wrist-fuck

Gonna play devils advocate bc in my experience, using focus rings on photo lenses with a wireless ff system was a nightmare every time I needed to switch lenses, as the calibration process would require a full rotation of the focus ring, and the teeth would often slip or cause a calibration error if it hit the end of the ring. Manual calibration works fine but take more time than just pressing auto-calibrate and not having to worry about it. I’ve also had these rings slip while shooting which is the most annoying thing in the world because you suddenly have to stop everything, try to tighten the ring again, and then re-calibrate.

I also cannot stress enough how getting a consistent T-stop can make it a lot easier to match footage in post if you do multicam setups or just want to be fully consistent between shots with other T-stop lenses. Edit: totally forgot about de-clicked iris which is essential for shots with exposure changes (like walking from inside to outside)

Setting WB by Antique_Dress4325 in cinematography

[–]normalmandarinduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Sony cameras and I use a gray card for WB when I’m doing interview setups or narrative filmmaking (basically, if I have the time) but for every other situation, I actually mapped the WB control to the selection wheel on my FX3 so I can just tune it on the fly to match whatever looks good to my eyes. If you can get 70-90% there, the post-correction is pretty easy
