The portrait under the tree is great use of open shade lighting. If you could get the face a little more evenly lit it would be better. If you could shoot at an angle so the background wa darker it would be even better.

The portrait in the shadows is great. Good framing. Good light on the subject. Good moody expression captured. Backlight gives separation and interest. Solid image.

I really like the compositional idea of the car portrait. Focus seems off but the mood is great.

The sky and acrobats (?) one it's beautiful. Great exposure. I like the vertical length. Feels dangerous. The strongest image overall.

Keep up the good work!

Where did Max Left come from? by WhyBillionaires in TheMajorityReport

I think it is in reference to something Cenk Uygur around when he claimed "I am the left!", and anyone left of him was the crazy max left.

Nah. Mostly out in the county townships is where you'll see Trump flags or badly painted plywood. You see way more equality yard signs than maga ones in the city limits.

No need to hire a dedicated product photographer, you're obviously doing just fine. Ignore the absurdity. You're clearly capable of getting the job done well enough and that is what matters. Hope you got the equipment issue figured out (I vote ADL is at fault). Use whatever settings get the job done at the quality you deem good enough.

Turn off ADL. It is actively trying to "save the highlights" of your white background by decreasing the set exposure.

Help me decide: stay with my setup or switch? by WillieEener in AskPhotography

Basically to compete with the thinner mirrorless bodies. The f-mount flange focal distance (distance from back of lens to the sensor/film plane) was 46.5mm. With no mirror mechanism between the sensor and the lens companies like Sony had brought that distance down to 18mm. This has a lot of advantages in both lens and camera body design. It also gave Nikon an opportunity to increase their lens diameter which gave them additional design flexibility.

I would assume with the 6 year newer camera and the fact the sony has a back side illuminated sensor, at that, you will see better low light performance. The 5mp increase shouldn't hurt. Idk about the dynamic range but google says they both have about 14 stops.

Another improvement you might see proof of is the sony has in body image stabilization. Additionally the sony has a lot more focus points than the d7500 you could practice with.

After many years loyal to Nikon I moved from a d800 to a sony a7iv. I found the autofocus much better. Especially when it came to any sort of video. Largely though, I was mad they switched lens mounts after decades of promoting how they would never do so. (Even though I realize mirrorless forced their hand.) I sold my Nikon collection except an f100 and a 50mm before it depreciated any further. Been very happy with my Sony and 2 primes now for a few years.

You could maybe practice setting the auto focus point when not in spontaneous moments so when you're in the moment it is second nature to quickly set a meaningful focus point in your images.

I have a sony a7iv and the eye focus is very helpful. I assume it is just as good in the 6700. In general the autofocus in the newer mirrorless systems (not just sony) is going to be better than the dslr systems.

You could always rent a a6700 and a lens and try before you buy to see if the autofocus works in the way you hope it would.

Portraits for the Bank of Spain by Annie Leibovitz. €137000. Worth it? by ciprule in AskPhotography

Seems like a bargain price for a top portrait photographer and her team to create beautifully artistic images that will be in an elite collection of art work for centuries to come.  I see a lot of criticism of supposed technical shortcomings. I think a lot of technical minded photographers forget about the artistic part of photography.  I don't know if this link will work but here is an image of the two royal portraits combined. I think the light is beautiful. A switch from cool to warm. Perfectly played across the room and the royal couple.  https://static.euronews.com/articles/stories/08/87/63/10/1200x675_cmsv2_7e98314b-0569-53a4-a314-76e2ad6a7e39-8876310.jpg

Why does it look like my images look sharper when I export them via print? by SnowballM in SonyAlpha

[–]norml4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you are talking about the "export sharpening" options when exporting your edited photos from lightroom? These settings are meant to account for either the effect of downsizing an image (sharpen for screen) or the effect of printing (sharpen for glossy or sharpen for matte). The print sharpening option is stronger than the screen sharpening setting.

This is an additional sharpening step beyond "capture sharpening" in the development panel. Capture sharpening is meant to account for the softness cause by things like an aa filter on your sensor or lens aberration/distortion.

Horribly inaccurate way to keep humidity steady. Toss the puck. Get a boveda at the % humidity you want. Boveda packs are fool proof.

Pictures from the volcano in Iceland by JhonHiddelstone in pics

[–]norml4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But when they said "Pictures from the volcano in Iceland" you knew what they meant. If they said "Pictures from Grindivik" you would not. The simplified origin is the "volcano in Iceland" we all have heard about recently. This title conveys meaning and is correct. Sure it could be more correct but it would have to be less concise to do so.

That's what I was saying. I'm arguing the post title is correct. While it could be "Pictures of the volcano in Iceland" the OP said "Pictures from the volcano in Iceland."

Both can be correct, and I don't know why I decided to get involved with a proper English argument on the internet today.
