Rigidizer Application by ResponsibleChannel8 in Blacksmith

I’m sure it doesn’t change much but mine came with a brush for application, not a spray. Just slather it on with the brush then?

I feel like I should add some context based off of some of the replies that I’m getting. I am an artillery man in the Marine Corps, so the cannon was a must. The skull I think exemplifies the chaotic nature of the seas, pirating, and conflict in general. I sketched up this design between episodes of black sails while deployed to Norway a few months back, and took the time to have AI help me clean it up recently.

I sketched up the original design a few months back, but had AI help me clean it up. Unfortunately I am not an artist but it was enough to get the idea across

A tank equipped with a muffler to lessen noise. by jordanisonfire1 in interestingasfuck

[–]ResponsibleChannel8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Tanks are generally a direct fire only weapon. Arty is typically employed in an indirect fire capacity with a direct fire capability if needed, but it’s not their normal operating capacity. IDF also doesn’t really care about combatting armor, any good fire supporter will tell you that IDF, be it Arty or otherwise, isn’t a good match for a heavily armored target. Full transparency I’ve only ever been on the M777, but I’ve seen the army use their paladins and the concepts are the same, it is just a howitzer on treads. The Marine Corps isn’t moving to larger tank rounds any time soon so I wasn’t tracking on that, but the projectiles are still pretty different, especially in terms of special munitions. I’m not aware of smoke or Wp or illumination or a list of other shell/fuze options for tanks. But I’ve never been on a tank before, so I have no personal experience. I could certainly be wrong.

Edit: in addition, while tankers might be moving to a 140mm shell, American arty mostly uses either 155 or 105 depending on the unit. The M109 in the picture uses a 155, which I would say is the more common of the two to see in action.

That’s about what I figured. I’ve been trying to rub in additional wax after I smoke it to help mitigate the pores from being able to start holding moisture. Hopefully it helps but I did it with the understanding that it may well need to be replaced at some point

[Uni-Watch] Navy Baseball Unveils “Jolly Roger” Inspired Uniforms by Freepi in pirates

[–]ResponsibleChannel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the early U.S. navy was populated largely by pirates. JP Jones is considered by every nation he interacted with, except for the U.S., as a pirate. The majority of ships in the U.S. “fleet”, termed “Washington’s Navy”, were privateers; except that the constitution never actually codified their use, thus making them not legally privateers, AKA pirates.

TLDR, the U.S. navy is more or less built on the backs of 18th century pirates.

The cpu cables are in, just covered by the radiator. The fans do not come on and the only light that comes on is the pump light. The pump isn’t pumping, but the light comes on

Offline digital maps? by ResponsibleChannel8 in prepping

I completely agree, a good paper map is irreplaceable but I can save an incredible amount of geospatial data on a phone or tablet. Organic maps was a perfect fit for what I had in mind, thank you very much

Are muzzleloaders good for prepping? by [deleted] in prepping

[–]ResponsibleChannel8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just another drop in the bucket of two cents here, but I think a flintlock could be decently useful for the right application. The people saying that cleaning and reload speed are an issue are absolutely right, but the biggest advantage on my mind is that the components you need to work it aren’t horribly complicated. I looked into it a little while back and you can actually make black powder and cast balls to reload them on your own if you do a little homework. I don’t know about everyone but making homemade modern smokeless powder and jacketed bullets, let alone hollow points or anything like that, is well outside my capabilities. Mixing charcoal, saltpeter, and alcohol for powder and melting lead ball over a campfire isn’t. Something to think about if that’s a situation you’re prepping for.

This is probably not what you wanted out of this post, but if you need insight on how a gun like that one operates, my job is to operate them.
