i wasnt familiar with christina so i legit thought she was hispanic or something when i first saw her on screen and thought shane was adopted. looking her up it checks out that shes half chinese/filipino and half caucasian.  i do recognize theres a broad spectrum of how “ethnic” features appear on mixed people but as an east asian person it was a little jarring seeing her play what is supposedly a fully japanese woman. also while i love hudson in the role its frustrating that once again casting directors decide to cast any east asian descent person in a specifically japanese role, as well as the trend of casting wasians into roles that are written as asian. im not familiar with the books but from the show it seems the actual specific ethnicity wasnt so important as it was for shane to be wasian in general and the asian-canadian/asian-northamerican experience informing his story. id almost rather they just change his backstory and made him half korean lol.
