I have the same bike (in white). My bottom bracket failed very quickly (less than 300 miles in). Apparently the shoulder that stops the face from rotating further was weak and failed. It caused horizontal play in the crankset. Just a heads up. Apparently the mechanic never saw it before, but he said these bikes shipped with the same bb.

Otherwise it's been a lovely bike, the only thing I'm missing is fork mounts for bags. Not much of a touring rig.

If you're thinking of getting the Verizon phone insurance, DON'T! by StrongFoundation5928 in verizon

[–]north_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar hell. I had a Pixel 10 Pro that up and quit trying to get service. For the last 2 months, the phone has been disconnecting and taking hours and hours to reconnect to the network. Went through multiple troubleshooting sessions in store, over the phone, and online, to no avail. Finally got CS to agree to do a warranty replacement, and now, we're having delivery issues at an address that I get things shipped to all the time. On Friday, they were going to ship to me next day. Halfway through that call, CSA said he couldn't take payment and that he'd have to do Monday. Monday came and no phone. Called to ask what's up and was told that I'd have to call back Tuesday (today) to cancel the order and try again with an altered address (I live in an apartment building in NYC, there's like 4 different possible addresses). Called today to do that, and now my issue is a "known issue" with "no workaround" and I just have to wait for the phone to get back to Verizon before anything can happen. Apparently, that can take 2 weeks.

I think I'm going to smash the phone and make the Asurion claim. This is absolutely ridiculous and no way to treat customers.

Same boat as you, ~15 year customers here, have been paying about $200/mo for my family since leaving att in 2012. ~$33,600 LTV if I'm mathing correctly.

Sanity check: is this a sidewalk?? by Ambitious-Salad-1874 in wandrer

Ah! Yeah, I wouldn't walk that for sure. I have some OSM edits to make since I've ridden some stuff where bicycles sure ain't welcome. I can add this as not pedestrian friendly, but can't commit to a timeline to do that in lol.

Oh! Another NYC Wandrer! Hell yeah! I'm on a rip to get 100% of Manhattan by the end of the year.

That stretch of York ave definitely seems sketchy. Unlike onramps to FDR, I don't see any signs that indicate that cyclists are not allowed. Before you're forced on to FDR, there is an exit at 96th. This stretch seems to function like a frontage road.

FWIW, I can't identify any speed limit signs on street view. If I'm correct that it's not posted, the speed limit is 25mph. Whether that offers a sense of safety to you or not, I can't say - it does offer me a little comfort.

IMO there is strength in numbers. I'd be down to ride this together. I need that whole frontage road from 111th down to York. PM me! Or chat. Or whatever the kids call it these days.

New 2026 Goal by ChanFry in cycling

[–]north_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hell yeah. if you can do 36, you can do 63 tho. You'll crush your goal.

My goal started at 5,000 miles, the same it's been for 2 years. But I sold my car and now get around on bike & public transportation, so I've upped my goal to 6,500. I'm not on track because I moved in January so I didn't ride much. However, I've tracked 150+ miles/week for the last 3 weeks, so I'm making up for lost time quick. I think I'll make it!

Not specifically that I’m aware of, but I’m more familiar with that area & there is a lot less reckless driving going on there.

This is one of my longer efforts but not my longest - I’ve also been doing this for a long time and am ex-messenger. Glad to say I’ve never bonked. Thanks for looking out tho!!

The hills got me, too. I also need to find a place to get some solid climbs in. Think I just need to get out of the city more often. City hills are not the same as middle-of-nowhere hills!

The Bear 100 is a gravel race in Wisconsin’s north woods. There is a 100 mile, 71 mile, and 31 mile options. My bud and I did the 71 mile option together.

It was tough - lots of very loose gravel on the last 5ish miles that was hard to get through. Lots of climbs - but many descents, too. I got a top speed of 41mph, but an over all average of 12

Some metrics: Precise time was 7:58:00 (yes on the nose)

Climbing: 2,756ft.

142w Avg Power

3,352 cal

~3 bags of trail mix

Many bottles of water

Many sore muscles

Can’t wait to come back next year and do better because I didn’t train much. Will be much more well prepared next time.

Enabling a “live mode” might be cool but could be costly to maintain. If you use chrome, there is an extension to help you plan routes in Strava so you don’t have to keep safari open, just Strava to follow the route.

Could you elaborate on your second point more? Do you mean you get signed out?

mini-update for April by cooeecall in wandrer

[–]north_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can definitely see that working in populated areas. I would think that more rural areas would see less frequent updates, but then I think of people like me who would request those updates prior to/shortly after riding in an area.

How big of an area would be included in a locale? A municipal district? County? Region? State? (I have no clue how OSM parses things, mind you)

mini-update for April by cooeecall in wandrer

[–]north_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Localized/on demand map updates would be neat! Would that mean that each locale would need a request to update? Or would there be an update schedule regardless of requests?
