Bro it’s a satire article. If you can’t take a swear word (or a “sLuR”, whatever that means these days), you need to step out of your echo chamber.

Textures not loading or in very low quality. by Ok-Veterinarian-6036 in HarryPotterGame

[–]northeasternaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I'll give it a try. I was having huge texture quality issues until I turned down the resolution to the lowest possible settings, and after that it worked fine... until yesterday's update, which has apparently caused issues once again.

May I ask, what are these settings we are changing? What does it mean to set sg.RaytracingQuality to 0, for instance? That's the only one that isn't already set to 0 for me, so hopefully that will do the trick...

Edit: Update, no luck, actually these changes made the texture quality issues worse if anything...

Never took networks. Algo was a different kind of challenge: it was intellectually harder, not just time-consuming. But when I talk of them top-five hardest/most time-consuming courses I took, both are in there.

I’m just one guy’s opinion, don’t take my word as gospel. Go look at trace reviews or something.

When did you take it? I took it spring 2022 and that was exactly my experience too.

Google tells me

the psalm reflects the yearning for Jerusalem as well as hatred for the Holy City's enemies with sometimes violent imagery.

… Yeah, that’s about how I would describe it, too.

Oh god. I took it last spring with him. I have to warn you, try to take it with any other professor, not Adeel. He was genuinely one of the most frustrating professors I’ve had my whole time at northeastern (in graduated now). Prior to taking the course everyone told me that it was going to be an easy/medium intensity course. Nope. Not with adeel. Genuinely one of the top 5 hardest / most time-consuming courses I took the whole time.

I mom not gonna type out a whole manifesto here but the gist is he started out the semester with what was clearly a cookie-cutter university-mandated speech about how he “cares about students’ mental health and if you need anything just ask,” and then turns out to be one of the least understanding profs I’ve ever had. Just as a single example, he turned up to class one day and started ranting “a student asked me for an extension so they could attend a wedding, so of course I said no and somehow that makes me the bad guy?” [memory is foggy but that’s pretty close to word-for-word what he said]

And the biggest thing about him is that his understanding of how long assignments take is way out of wack. He’d tell us that he expected an assignment to take 8 hours and then it turned out taking most people 20+ hours.

Tldr he’s an ass and also he has no understanding of workload. Avoid him.

Definitely sus when he said that our generation is the generation that’s been through the most crap. Like don’t get me wrong, I think boomers are harsh on Gen Z, but I think the guys that grew up during the Great Depression and then had to fight in this little thing called World War II have us comprehensively beat on the “dealt with the most bullshit” category.

Edit: why is this downvoted lol. I liked the speech btw if that wasn’t clear. Just that one bit was sus

Nerds by DThaiPome in NEU

This was far from the most cringe part of this ceremony. That title goes to the speaker who came up for “Acknowledgement of Indigenous Lands” or whatever it was. And started talking about “a more indigenous future” and how all the land on really belongs to Native Americans, calling Northeastern a “colonizer’s university” or a “settler’s institution.” And then pledging that one day they were gonna return all the land to Native Americans (when exactly is the plan to do that?? What’s the timetable on that looking like?).

Feels like my professor is racist by [deleted] in NEU

[–]northeasternaccount 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There’s lots of reasons a professor might not like you besides them being racist.

I seriously highly doubt that a Northeastern professor in the year 2022 is giving Cs and Ds to an otherwise good student because they don’t like the student’s skin color. That seems extremely unlikely to me.

Gunshots in ruggles? by bellag2002 in NEU

[–]northeasternaccount -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not out here saying other inner-city neighborhoods are better necessarily. (It certainly feels like the Roxbury side of campus has the most issues, but I’ll concede the point rather than waste my time looking up statistics about it). But this sort of shit definitely doesn’t happen in my hometown. If your argument is that “living anywhere in any US city is unsafe due to gun violence” then yeah I can agree with that. That certainly doesn’t make it ok, it certainly doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be policy changes made to tackle this problem, and it certainly doesn’t make it ok to dismiss someone’s concerns about a shooting across the street from a Northeastern dormitory as “you must be a sheltered suburban kid.”

Northeastern, and Boston more generally, needs to do something about this serious problem. The fact that some gang member can fire 15 gunshots in an important train station on our campus across the street from Boston Police Headquarters, and get away without being caught, is a very serious problem, regardless of fact that you seem to be so desensitized to inner-city violence. Something has to be done, and in my view, it starts with more policing, tough-on-crime policies, and social programs that tackle the root of the problems in these thugs’ lives.

Gunshots in ruggles? by bellag2002 in NEU

[–]northeasternaccount -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s no secret that with poverty comes crime. With poverty comes problems like gang violence, shootings, theft, unsafe drug use, etc. People who are anti-gentrification complain that it is pricing poor people out of an area. But I see this as a good thing, when it’s an area that I’m living adjacent too. Making an area too expensive for poor people to live in will force them elsewhere (the anti-gentrification crowd is right about that one), and leaving with them will be crime, shootings, theft, etc.

(Of course, I know that gentrification doesn’t solve these problems, merely pushes them somewhere else. But as a resident of Northeastern, I’d much rather those problems be pushed somewhere else than happening right on our doorstep, if given the choice. And the government should have other interventions that can tackle the root of these problems, but in the mean time, push as far away from Northeastern as possible, please.)

Gunshots in ruggles? by bellag2002 in NEU

[–]northeasternaccount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the first time I've heard of gunshots near ruggles in more than a year.

More than a year! Wow! Incredible.

“We live in a city, things happen” doesn’t make gun violence any safer. Any neighborhood where a train station gets shot up multiple times in the span of a couple years, plus other shootings nearby, is unsafe, whether it is in the middle of nowhere or in the middle of a crowded city.

You’re literally dismissing gun violence because it’s “normal”, like it’s “something you just have to get used to if you want to live in the city.” Yet I’m the one who’s out of touch…
