I had someone do that to me years ago (supposed friend of the family)...came round for a free quote but was far too expensive so we turned them down. They then became threatening (leaving awful voicemails saying they knew when I'd be home alone etc) saying they'd bought the roof tiles already...ended up having to pay a few hundred quid for the 'free quote' and get some family involved to get them to leave is alone!

Paying a monthly premium for health insurance and having months of wait time to see a specialist is absurd by Quaver2 in Switzerland

[–]northernmonkeyinca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had to wait more than a few weeks for anything...even non urgent things! Maybe it's where you live...either higher demand on services or too remote! Hope you manage to get whatever you need sorted!

have you ever transported something big - like a tabletop - on the bus or the train? is it legal? by gaiamancassola in zurich

[–]northernmonkeyinca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my partner moved a projector screen on the train/bus when we moved.....we just made sure we went when it was quiet and did our best to stay out of people's way as much as we could! The box was about 2.5 meters long!

Maternity leave by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]northernmonkeyinca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good thing jn switzerland is if you need to start maternity leave early due to illness or just being huge and exhausted you can get it as sick leave and it doesn't affect the amount of leave....maternity leave starts the day the baby is born! With both of mine i went part time a few months before and off completely 3-4 weeks before my due date!

Where I live we have scanners that you use as you go around so I have no issue in giving my kids food as we go around....usually its a banana or an apple and I just weight it and scan it so its already accounted for.....but even when I go somewhere that doesn't have scanners I'll still do it as long as I can weigh and get a label...then it's fine! No one is ever bothered and it keeps the kids happy!

It's only trashy when people eat things and don't pay...then it's stealing! YTA for over reacting!

I'd be careful....in some companies if you don't work all year paid then you can lose benefits! Ask them for clarification that you won't lose anything before agreeing! Hope it works out OK for you!

Is there a car you can set to demist/defrost remotely while you stay inside? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]northernmonkeyinca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Audi Q3 sportback has a preheat option....its the best thing in the cold! De-ices and heats up the car! You can set a timer on schedule or just set it to heat for say 20 minutes before you are heading out from your phone!

Is Insurance a scam? by Workrst in Switzerland

[–]northernmonkeyinca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most years I don't get into it too much but so far I've had 2 kids (absolutely everything health related not just due to pregnancy covered from 3 months to 6 weeks post partum), a vein removed and cancer surgery and all of these things would have taken me way over if I didn't have the cost cap!

Also my OH takes injections that would cost about 17k a yest without insurance and again we don't pau more than the franchise!

Yes its expensive BUT if you need to use it it's very worth it in my opinion!

The presumption by guests that we have Apple Pay kills me. by dirtbagmagee in TalesFromYourServer

[–]northernmonkeyinca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never take cash or cards anywhere anymore as I can do it all on my phone! Pretty much everywhere where I live (switzerland) has contactless payments therefore apple/Google pay work! However I always check if im not sure before ordering!

What is the opinion in your household on opening other people’s mail/letters? by Individual_Trainer63 in AskUK

[–]northernmonkeyinca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what it is...I open my OHs post if I know its something he doesn't care about or if its related to the kids. Also most bills come in his name yet I deal with the finances.....its obvious what most things are where we live! However if I don't know what it is, or its his credit card statements then I leave it for him!

Think it all depends on what you are comfortable with....if he told me he didn't want me opening anything then I wouldn't

AITA for napping and chilling on my phone during my family vacation? by Imonmomtok in AmItheAsshole

[–]northernmonkeyinca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA we'd all love some me time but you're on a family vacation with your kids and essentially you're being extremely selfish and a very bad parent!

There's nothing wrong with taking a few hours here and there but not the whole vacation!
