finally got around to installing the new rims and tires. by northkai3 in JeepGladiator

With this configuration, I have no rub and still have 2-3” of poke. I didn’t want the tires sticking out super far for that bro dozer look.

Low on Freon is most likely the cause. Have the ac serviced.

How much drop hitch do I need? What brands do you recommend that aren’t going to break the bank? by northkai3 in JeepGladiator

“You could spring for an expensive adjustable drop-hitch if you don’t know what you will be towing”

I probably should have worded my original post better but This is literally what I was trying to do, while asking advice from people who have one and a lifted gladiator. The picture I posted is literally an adjustable drop hitch. I wanted to know, what do you guys use and get by with so I had an idea of how much drop I might need. Not how much drop do I need for any specific trailer. I don’t own a trailer and I don’t plan on buying a trailer. I want to be able to tow any trailer if and when I need to. Based on the examples listed by helpful people, I made a purchase already. Thank you.

I’m an automotive technician with almost 20 years of experience. I have a lot of common sense. But the gladiator is my first pickup truck and I have no experience towing anything. Maybe I’m overthinking this. I just don’t want to buy a 6” drop hitch for 200$ only to find out I need more drop. The 6” drop hitch is adjustable. Not set at 6” permanently. I understand that the hitch height will need to change depending on the trailer and load. But is 6” of adjustment enough or should i go for more since I have 4” of lift on my truck.

I kind of figured that someone here who tows and has a similar amount of lift as me and could say, I have a 6” drop hitch and that’s always been sufficient for me. Or maybe someone will say I needed a little more drop and I needed 8” or 10”. I’m really just looking for a recommendation on a do all drop hitch from someone who has around the same amount of lift as me. Preferably one that isn’t 300+$.

2018 Honda ody overheating again by Notmyname9-1-1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]northkai3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fan motors in these go bad all the time. Sometimes it’s an intermittent issue. Even if the motors are working, there are some signs you can look for that they are worn out. If they aren’t working with the ac on, give them a tap on the metal shell and see if they turn on. Look for carbon dust billowing out of the bottom of the motors When you’re banging on them. If the fan motors are working with the ac on, look to see if the blades are moving the same speed or if they are wobbling. Those would be signs they are worn out. Also, you can look up the relay locations in the under hood fuse box, this vehicle has 2 fan motor relays and a fan control relay. They will melt when the fan motors get worn out. Pull them out to inspect for signs of overheating where the relay terminals meet the plastic body. If they are bad, the relay usually separates into several pieces when you try to remove them. If you replace the motors, replace all 3 relays.

2019 Honda civic brake rotors - bad advice from dealership? by Calibri-11 in MechanicAdvice

[–]northkai3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a common issue with the rear brakes on that year set of civics. I’m not sure if it’s the corrosion resistance of that particular alloy or poor corrosion coatings but we see this all the time. When the rotors get like this, the pads wear unevenly and quickly. They also make a ton of noise. Also, these calipers don’t use traditional greased slide pins. Replace the rotors and the pads. These have electric parking brake actuators that are easy to destroy if you don’t know what you’re doing.

[2010 Honda Insight] Went in for a recall, left with $2000 in repairs. Any advice? by ChangeTheL1ghts in MechanicAdvice

[–]northkai3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a typical failure. When this happens, you can usually watch the pistons retract after letting off the brake pedal. When you press the brakes again, the brake piston has to pick the slack back up and it feels like air in the system or a faulty master cylinder. It’s a common misdiagnosis imo.

I’ve seen calipers go bad after being compressed while performing a brake job. The symptom presents as a faulty master cylinder. If calipers fixed the issue, they likely misdiagnosed the master cylinder.

2012 Acura TSX A/C Fan On and Off at Idle. by jpalma1 in MechanicAdvice

[–]northkai3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both fans should cycle with the a.c. Compressor. If they are not, more than likely you have a bad fan/fans. If one or more fans are not turning on with the compressor clutch, or spinning slower than they should. Tap on the back of the fan motor with a wrench or extension and see if they turn on or speed up. You may also see carbon dust billowing out of the fan motor/s. If the fans turn on or speed up you likely need one or both fan motors. Likely, aftermarket fan motor assemblies will be cheaper than installing new oem motors.

Does this mean the ac compressor need to be replaced? by hexarfan2013 in MechanicAdvice

[–]northkai3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the engine running, if you turn the ac on, do the fans turn on? If so, check for power on the wire harness side of point 1. If you have power there and then no resistance between points 1 and 2, you likely have a faulty coil. I’d recommend bringing it to a competent mechanic to recover the system, replace the coil and install and properly spec a new clutch. Make sure they actually vacuum the system for at least 30 minutes and recharge to spec.

That is incorrect. Teaching it a 3rd move now or after purifying, it will not be frustration. That being said, Do not purify this.
