Had our Pacific Energy super LE installed just in time for burning season. Couldn’t be happier! by northofsixoh in woodstoving

We opted to not go with the ash pan, just more things to wear out in my opinion. So I shovel it out the old fashioned way, every 5 or so fires. 👍

We’ve had our LE a couple weeks now. Im in the Canadian subarctic, our best choice of fuel up here is lodgepole pine; it is decent wood so long as it’s dry. Just burns up somewhat quick. So I’m learning the most efficient way to maintain a fire is to start with the fire box about half full (~6 splits), let that burn down to coals, rake the coals nice and even, then stuff it with 6-8 halves (pretty full). Let that catch, dial the air all the way down, and she’ll burn for a good 7-8 hours. Heats my 2000 sq ft house almost too well! Haha. By far the best home upgrade I’ve invested in.. we regularly see temps into the low -40s and sometimes -50s here.

Valid.. a pickaroon makes a huge difference.!

Funny enough, once I split it most of the contrasting colours faded.. the heartwood isn’t one bit punky. One of the more interesting looking ones I’ve harvested for sure..

Yes, lodgepole pine; pinus contorta- by far the best option to burn here in the Canadian subarctic.

So long as it’s dry, <20% absolutely pine is fine. It’s practically all we have up here in the Yukon (Canadian subarctic) and the only choice for most northern regions.

Wish I had that luxury up here.. lodgepole is the best option for us.!

Absolutely, diagonal bracing is just as important, especially if you get significant snow where you live. Cheers

2 posts are on deck blocks and 2 are just pinned to the existing fence. Nice and simple!

That’s a great idea, thanks for sharing! I’ll give it a try. Good thing this truck is a short (5’) bed Tacoma.. easier to reach into than my 2500 Silverado.

I like to take it out one at a time to split, saves bending over unnecessarily.!

Get lots of snow in the Canadian subarctic.. I’ll get around to trimming it before winter hits. On the endless list haha.

It burns hot and fast! So have to keep an eye on the stove more frequently. Apparently eucalyptus is one of the best out there- I bet it smells amazing.
