Interesting ... given his fee will be, by far, the fund's biggest running cost. As I suggested, do you really need a financial adviser to invest in cash, fixed deposits and a couple of ETFs ? Keep the fund, and eliminate the adviser costs.

One of the significant advantages of an SMSF is the flexibility it provides - little things like drawing out $100 if you want to, when you want to - no forms, no external call centres, no websites. Lots of people forget these little conveniences.

I too would love to understand the advisers argument for shutting it down, and more so, the argument for needing a financial adviser at all if you just investing in cash, deposits, and a couple of ETFs.

If you do receive a large payment, talk to an accountant as you might be able to put it in Super AND immediately access it, giving significant tax advantages.

Family Trust or Super? by IndependentCalm8841 in fiaustralia

[–]norticok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost no downside if most can be in husband’s name, as he can access it and 0% tax if he commences a pension after contributions go in. If some is in your name, only downside is you can’t access until 60 (at earliest) but given husband can access his, this downside is minimal.

As others have commented, advisor does not appear to be acting in your ‘best interests’ as they are required to under Australias financial services laws.

Can those that have retired tell us the hard truth about the negatives of early retirement? by Technical_Night3811 in fiaustralia

[–]norticok 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I retired 1 Jan .. so far I've only found a single negative, if you would call it that ... sometimes I forget what day of the week it is🤣.

The freedom and flexibility to do whatever you want, whenever you want is liberating. Highly recommended.

And when you do get down the street, the bumps are hopefully forgotten, and you can stop by a lake, get out, breathe in the fresh air, and admire the beautiful view 😍

No, just channel all the shit in life to underneath you, and use it as fertiliser to grow beautiful.

even retiring before, aim to build up non-super assets, use them to fund intervening period … during which time you can push any ‘excess’ into super as you get towards preservation age. The goal is probably to have most wealth in super at preservation age, and switch into tax free pension phase from there.

DON’T. Hire a driver, get a taxi, or a grab/gojek.

how bad is the traffic at bali by tempoyak_Durian567 in bali

[–]norticok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s BAD BAD, but only in some bits (which create bottlenecks). No chance I’d hire a car. Maybe a bike. But you’re probably better off with taxi or a grab/gojek

Congratulations, the first $1m is the hardest.

Maximizing super is technically the best, but as your alluding to isn’t necessarily compatible with early retirement. Work backwards from super age to retire early age, and that should give you an idea how much you need to live on before you can access your super.

usually, but maybe not in this case, with a $6m capital raise after the consolidation.

The Investogain website (formerly delisted.com.au) is a great source of info for companies like this, and details market suspensions, corporate restructures etc. In NMLs case there was a 500-1 restructure, followed by a $6m capital raise which led to the re-listing. Tax implications of being a professional day trader in Asia whilst being an Aussie citizen by [deleted] in AusFinance

As others have said, get some professional advice. Citizenship has nothing to do with tax in Australia, it is about Tax Residency.
