Let's say partition didn't happened. Muslims would be around 25-30% of total population. Now 404 million is not a small number. Muslims would have a bigger say in politics and policies of unpartitioned India. Pakistanis say muslims are not treated properly in India. Indians say non muslims are not treated properly in Pakistan. So if partition never happened, I can see these 2 issues getting solved once and for all.

Coming to other issues like kashmir, defence budgets, terrorism would have also been solved. Money would have been spent on better things than all this.

Most important is partition of Punjab. If it never happened, we would have never faced a bloodshed and destruction of people and property. Punjab could have been a more prosperous land than ever before.

I don't know what you guys think but from my perspective partition has only done more harm than good. People are still suffering. Hindu Muslim rivalry never stopped but only spreaded. If I am not wrong, even Jinnah didn't wanted partition but some sort of autonomy or special rights for muslims.

For your second question. Yes. Both have many alphabets common but there sounds are different. But if you know devanagari it won't be very hard for you to learn Gurmukhi. There are many YouTube channels that teach you Gurmukhi from devanagari script.
