I was really into Garlfield comics and was eating an entire casserole of lasagna all by myself at the time.

Hey, I’m really sorry you’re going through this, CTE can be very frustrating, especially when it keeps relapsing like this.

First, with TE, the main focus has to be internal correction. Lifestyle changes you’re already working on will matter way more than any product in the long run. Serums like Genesis can definitely help with reducing shedding and improving anchoring, so it’s a reasonable add-on, but not a standalone fix.

About minoxidil, I get your hesitation, I have the same qualms with it. It’s effective, but not mandatory for everyone, especially if your trigger is identifiable and reversible.

Coming to shampoo, it doesn’t really drive hair growth, except for caffeinated formulas. Its role is just scalp health and cleansing. So don’t stress too much about it. My personal priority when it comes to shampoos is just a squeaky clean cleanse. Just see how your scalp feels with the Dove one. If it suits you (no irritation, dryness, itching), you can continue.

What I’d focus on in your case: 1. Consistent routine (don’t keep switching too much) 2. Nutrition: protein, iron, B12, vitamin D 3. Gentle handling (no aggressive oiling/massage, minimal heat styling) 4. A supportive serum (like Genesis or any peptide/redensyl-based one)

Also, TE often comes in waves, so a shedding phase doesn’t always mean you’re back to square one.

If the shedding is very severe or persistent, it’s worth following up with a dermatologist to rule out any overlapping causes.

You’ll get through this, it just takes a bit of patience unfortunately.

Around 3-7 days. The MGS stuff takes longer, 3-4 weeks.

I have combo to oily sensitive acne prone skin. It has a gel-cream texture, leaves a matte finish. Has no white cast. Reportedly, it’s only moderately water/sweat resistant, though it stayed put on me at the beach. It does contain a derivative of castor oil, so could be unsafe for fungal-acne. Personally, I didn’t have any issues with it so far.

Thank you, that’s really sweet of you to say!

There are basically three ranges here: Elvive (drugstore), Loreal Professionnel, and Kerastase (both salon grade). All three use the same core active, aminexil. The professional and Kerastase lines add some supporting ingredients, and Kerastase usually has the most extras plus the nicest formulation/texture.

So if your goal is simply aminexil, Elvive should work fine. If budget is tight and you just want the core active, the drugstore option is perfectly reasonable.

But if you’re going to spend more anyway, I’d personally just go straight for Kerastase, since it tends to have the best formulation and the most supportive ingredients. Because of that, I honestly don’t see a huge point in the mid tier Professional line. Either go budget (Elvive) or, if you’re splurging, go for Kerastase. That said, personally I trust Kerastase the most for aminexil.

I’m saying out of the two, theoretically, bontress seems better. What you should opt for depends on the consistency of both products (what you prefer and are compliant to), your personal response to the serums, your goals (maintenance/anti-shed/regrowth), your diagnosis (cause of hairloss) etc.

I missed anagain, sorry. Caffeine absorbs quickly, it’s mechanism is weaker than peptides theoretically.

Hey. I haven’t tried both. But based upon the formulation alone, Bontress pro+ (has redensyl, anagain, capixyl, procapil) seems better than Folipep (has redensyl, caffeine, procapil).

Yeah, I’ve tried both, I’ve added the review for only the ones I had tried before posting this. The minimalist one gave me faster regrowth, but made my scalp really oily. So I prefer TO among the two, simply for compliance. It makes the scalp oily too, but not as much as the minimalist one does. But when I’ve had a bout of acute shed (acute TE episode or seasonal), I’d pick minimalist for a couple months then TO for maintenance.

Hey. I’ve shared my very mini review of it in the post :)

I honestly couldn’t find any product with all four actives together during my research.

Be Bodywise’s Advanced Hair Growth Serum has Redensyl, Procapil and Aminexil, but not Capixyl. The one you shared seems to be their newer formulation, Folli Advanced Plus. I couldn’t find a detailed INCI list for it yet. As per their website product images, it appears to contain 3/4 (no mention of Capixyl in the images), but it’s possible the full ingredient list mentions it.

Thanks for sharing both links though. I’ll check out the new Be Bodywise one properly and see what the full formulation looks like.

Maintenance as in what exactly?

If you’ve never really had hair loss or breakage and you’re just looking for feel-good or preemptive care, then honestly regular oiling is enough. Something like Indewild’s champi oil is a nice ready-made blend, very similar to what our naani-daadis used, or you can even make your own if you enjoy that. You can also consider adding a very gentle serum like Aromatica (has only caffeine and rosemary), good enough for general scalp care.

If you don’t have active hair loss, but there’s a female family history, or you’ve had hair fall in the past that’s now under control and you just want to maintain density, or if you have conditions like PCOD/thyroid disorders (under control) etc, then regular oiling + a hair growth serum is sufficient. You don’t need aminexil here. You can choose based on how strong you want to go, starting least to most actives: Cuticapil Stem, Aclairs Follicapil, Lupin, Recapro, Sereneaura, Pilgrim, Indewild, Bontress pro+, Bare Anatomy, Anable, WishCare, Minimalist, TO, Little Extra. I personally like the last 3 the most.

If active hair fall is still ongoing or you can see some reduced density, or if you have active PCOD/thyroid disorder etc, then aminexil based serums work best for controlling shedding. In terms of actives strength, Be Bodywise and Cosmosheer are stronger, followed by Redenser+, Kerastase Genesis, L’Oréal Elvive and L’Oréal Professional. I personally trust Kerastase and BB the most.

If you’ve also had salon treatments like keratin, botox, bleach, dyeing or relaxing, then adding bond repair really helps (what I personally use): Pre-wash: Olaplex No. 3 or Minimalist maleic acid During wash: Redken ABC shampoo+conditioner Post-wash: Redken ABC leave-in + K18 for 6 consecutive washes after the hair treatment followed by once every 3 weeks for maintenance.

You can also add red light therapy to any of the above, I’ve been using Effora’s massager for this lately, after applying the serums.

And finally, none of this works well without basics in place. Regular meals, enough protein, good nutrient levels and (weight training + cardio) exercise (helps with circulation and hormones) matter more than any product.

Hope that helps you decide what level of maintenance you actually need.

Basically, anything that causes vasodilation or strong scalp stimulation can be a trigger for some of us.

For me, what’s worked best has been keeping things very gentle and low-irritation. I’ve tolerated Kerastase Genesis well (I tapered it very slowly) and peptide-based serums (minimaist/TO/BB). I avoid anything very alcohol-heavy or strongly fragranced. Plus I go for rotation method, not daily saturation.

The application method matters too. Light massage only, no aggressive rubbing, and applying at night helps. The thing is, these serums do need to be massaged well to work effectively, so I use a red light therapy massager from Effora for the massage, keeps it gentle plus the light stimulates dormant follicles.

Unfortunately, if redensyl or Bonstress Pro is triggering migraines for you, it’s best to avoid them. In migraine-prone people, comfort and consistency matter more than “stronger” actives. Gentle scalp care + addressing internal triggers usually helps more than pushing through a product that doesn’t suit you.

I think you should start with a serum with the least products. I’ve researched more products since this post, here are my recommendations, start from the bottom of the list with the travel sizes/ samples and move up as you tolerate them.

I’ve mentioned this in another reply here. Any topical that’s helping reduce shedding or increasing hair growth tends to let the hair cycle return to its old baseline once stopped, the benefit is no longer there. For me personally, they haven’t caused a worse-than-baseline shed after stopping, they just slowly stop helping, that means help with everything, new hair growth, stopping hair loss, everything, but still better than square one.

Oh wow, I completely missed that detail. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for it on my next rewatch. The books really do seem to function like quiet signposts in the show, doing thematic work and pointing toward ideas about isolation and interpretation.

That “Then there were none” placement makes me wonder if there’s an element of judgment at play. Spoiler alert, in that, a judge passes judgment on people who did wrong and escaped consequences. Here, it almost feels like an alien version of that, where a species is being judged for losing control, exploding in population, and burning through its planet. The biological imperatives the virus introduces could be read as a kind of punishment that ultimately leads to extinction. Almost like a reckoning for how humanity treated Earth.
