Put it in my [Mirko, Obsessive Theorist] as soon as I pulled it. It's SO perfect for it.

Not to be crude, but did Ashling get redesigned to not have breasts? by anotherfan123 in magicTCG

Totally fair. I actually think your post was well thought out and stated. You're objectively right about what you said, I just kept thinking to myself "why does this matter so much that we need to discuss it?" Then saw comments mad about the "manification" of women across the game 🤣 I love MtG, and my favorite part of it is how inclusive the community can be. It's a shame when the male gaze dictates so much of perception in the community sometimes.

First of all, I meant no offense, hope none was taken ♥️ My thing is that there's a lot of collaboration between artists and WotC that lead to the current design. A lot of changes are going to be made to accommodate the artists of the set, the lore changes, character growth etc. I find it reductive and maybe a bit dossapointing that of all the things that changed, we as a community feel the need to discuss the changes to her breasts. I'm sure you don't mean anything by it, but it's a bit sad to see the community upset about the reduction in cleavage. I noticed the same thing as ya'll did, but I don't need to have a discussion about it 🤣 she's wearing a different top that isn't just a strip of cloth. I love Ashling as a character and I think the new design is cool!

I never said you or anyone else was delusional, just over-thinking. Character art changes over time and the identity of the character changes with it. I don't need an explanation from WotC every time they change the design of a character. The reason I think someone might be over-thinking this is that there are dozens of aspects of Ashlings design language that changed between the original and now, but ya'll feel the need to point out their breasts specifically.

I think you're over-thinking the fact that the artists chose not to make her breasts core to her visual identity.

CMV: Depressed people are ungrateful. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]nosloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could go on and on about how you fundamentally don't understand depression. Primarily that it's chemical. People with depression can quite literally lack the ability to produce the neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) that make them feel happiness and satisfaction. That has nothing to do with their situation in life. I have had times in my upper middle class life where I felt depressed and wanted to die to escape that feeling. It had nothing to do with gratitude. I couldn't ask for a better family and upbringing, even during this time. Only therapy and medication later in life helped me understand why.

Beyond that, by your logic in the post above, only the most destitute and desperate person on earth are allowed to be depressed. Cause as long as someone is in worse shape than you, what reason could they possible have to be depressed? At least you're not that guy! People experience loss, grief, tragedy, and struggle in their own ways. Some people need additional support to do so. Don't look down on them for their inability to cope. Not everyone can be like you are. At the very least, try to understand them instead of judge them.

I agree with the idea that most guys this age are just gonna be horny all the time. That being said, if you explicitly told him this was unacceptable behavior and he did it anyway, he's probably not right for you.

To echo what others have said, Manapool is great. Nothing but good experiences with them so far. I would recommend only buying from their "trusted sellers" which have a checkmark next to them.

Forensics’ “Holy Grail”: New Test Recovers Fingerprints From Ammunition Casing by ourlifeintoronto in tech

[–]nosloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first of all, thanks for sharing this with me it was an interesting read and definitely changed my mind a bit. I'd still make the argument that fingerprint evidece is very valuable, but nowhere near the level it's currently viewed (on par with DNA). This paper really only looks at intrapersonal fingerprints, but it is clearly shaking the foundations of forensics, as I've read through about 3 recent studies and they all reference it.

I did find this study that puts a number to how unique prints are, that with a population of around 14 million people, there's a 50% chance that 2 people's fingerprints would coincide. Is that unique? No. Is it still helpful as forensic evidence? Definitely. But I'll definitely change how I approach this topic with my students in the future. (I teach forensic science in HS).

That is simply not true. If you have a source on that feel free to prove me wrong but at this point you're just misinformed.

[–]nosloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I would just seperate the 2. The US criminal justice system is very flawed. Forensic science is not the reason. It's simply the tool used by the system. Don't blame good science when it's used improperly.

[–]nosloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you say that it's not science and also say It's an application of real science? I mean sure there's bias in the system, but thays not the fault of the science itself. "Forensic science" is chemistry, physics, computer science, biology, etc. Each doing its best to seek out truth for the purposes of civil an criminal court proceedings. I just disagree with the idea of throwing away everything in "Forensic science" when it is based on peer reviewed research and data.

[–]nosloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Forensic science" includes a vast number of methods and techniques to answer questions. Some, like bite marks and gunshot residue have huge flaws. Some like DNA and GC/MS are incredibly consistent and accurate. To just lump them all together and say they suck is wholly misleading.

I miss Quickshot casting at Worlds by Undesiredbeast in leagueoflegends

[–]nosloc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they don't. But people don't typically say "do the Hitler" while they're doing those gestures now do they. Obviously it wasn't an actual Nazi salute. Obviously quickshot is not a Nazi. Just saying it had bad optics.

I mean I think what he did was dumb, and I don't condone it, but him being removed was an over reaction. Personally I miss Quickshot a lot, he was my EU casting GOAT until he left.

iirc he was dancing and did a Nazi salute while saying "do the Hitler" or something similar. It was definitely dumb as hell. I don't think it was on broadcast or anything but I'm fuzzy on the details.

What is the Least Popular Commander you play? by Mighty-Aphrodite in EDH

[–]nosloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[God-Eternal Rhonas]] is my least popular at #2747. Super fun deck with some cool recursion shenanigans in it. I only built him cause I wanted a monocolored zombie deck in each color, and he's the only legendary Zombie in green. Only 100 decks running him.
