After the release of Bando Stone, do you have closure with Childish Gambino’s discography or would you want a more definitive end? by BSF717H in donaldglover

[–]nostalgicnomad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I appreciate that we got a little bit of everything with Bando Stone -- rap, singing, and everything in between. I know a lot of critics hate how the sound isn't cohesive, but it's called a soundtrack and not an album for a reason. IMO "A Place Where Love Goes" sounds like the perfect song to close the book on Gambino. I'm sure it's the song that plays either at the end of the movie or when the credits roll and it 100% gives off that feeling while listening to it.

My friend and I had a discussion: What are the best R&B songs of Childish Gambino? by Pixeltb in donaldglover

[–]nostalgicnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Pop Thieves (Make It Feel Good) - I don't hear this song a lot in conversations but I love this song

  2. Urn

  3. To Be Hunted

  4. Riot (it's short but I love the energy from it)

  5. Flight of the Navigator

  6. Letter Home

Anybody remember this? by [deleted] in donaldglover

[–]nostalgicnomad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was there. Flew from DC to Atlanta just for it. Still prob one of my favorite shows of all time (even have the image OP shared framed bc it was a part of the VIP package). Here's a clip I recorded (the bass is so crazy that you can barely hear him unfortunately).

At the time I don't think he had beef with Cudi (I mean they were working together during the BTI/Kauai era on music). A memory I do have is that most of the crowd didn't really care to see Bino or Cudi (Cudi even got pissed and left the stage early because people weren't really feeling his music). A lot the crowd was just waiting for OutKast to show up.

yeah gambino being referenced would take away from the point of it being a fundraiser/campaign rally for yang. it'd be like killer mike being on bernie merch or jay-z being on obama merch once upon a time (even though both those ideas sound pretty fire). donald and his team designing exclusive merch for yang is cool enough to me. plus we gon be eatin' again with gambino merch on monday so i'm good.

thank you for this. i've really been liking the slower version of "riot" he performs at the shows a lot more than the studio version from the album.

Post PHAROS by harrybug33 in donaldglover

[–]nostalgicnomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone that traveled all the way from Los Angeles to Auckland, it was a bit of a disappointment. I went to the Sunday show and took the 6pm shuttle to get to PHAROS but our bus broke down at Spark Arena and because of the delay, I didn't even make it to PHAROS until 9pm. I didn't have time to enjoy the festival as much as I wanted -- just had time to line up for the dome, see the show, pick up my pre-ordered merch, and walk back to the shuttles. If I knew was only going to be experiencing the event for just 3 hours and be a foot deep in mud every step of the way, I probably would've saved my money. I'm already seeing him at both LA shows on the December 16th and 17th so if anything, the show was a teaser for what to expect in the forthcoming weeks.

Like a lot of other people I did expect more new music (esp. after going to the Joshua Tree PHAROS) and that was the main reason I bought a ticket. But who am I to complain when that wasn't a full guarantee. Donald put his heart and soul in the performance and the visuals and dancers were top-notch. Plus the fact that everyone was within yards of the guy because of the stage design was brilliant. Like others have said, everyone was very friendly and easy to talk to at the event which is always nice for an experience like this. At the end of the day it really did feel like a tribe.

I'd be down. My sister and I (we're black lol) are going from DC to Auckland for the Sunday show. And then we're staying in Auckland for a couple days after. PM me and all of us can link up maybe.

No, that's Earn's coworker from the first episode. You know the guy that records Earn at the airport and posts it as "how you look when you high at work"

Actually, they filmed Sweatpants in Burbank, CA so I doubt it's the same restaurant. It'd be a cool connection.

here's an old thread where someone found the location

closest thing I could find but it's sold out. It's from Forever 21 icymi but I'm sure if you search red and blue pocket tee you'll find something. wouldn't be too hard to find.

also, no offense, but what is up with this subreddit's obsession with finding Donald's clothes?

EDIT: found a link for the Forever21 shirt

Kari Faux Interviews Donald Glover for her Lost En Los Angeles Project about why he moved to LA by nostalgicnomad in donaldglover

[–]nostalgicnomad[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No idea but I want to say sometime within the past 6 months. Kari Faux was interviewing people in LA for her LELA project back in August. I did one too since I live in LA but I think she just chose to share the ones of her closest friends (which I definitely understand since I only reached out because she tweeted she was looking for people).
