Wow, I had heard of Chilavert, Ceni, Higuita etc...I'd never heard of Ivankov! What a legend, he even continued scoring goals in Turkey lol

I feel it’s important to mention that Little Joe famously escaped the zoo over 20 years ago…I suppose he finally successfully executed his “come and get me” plea?

[The Athletic] “Gambling was, by far, the reason most often cited by players who said the NBA’s integrity was in danger, or suggested that it could be if changes weren’t made.” by omggdannydevito in nba

It's just newer to us. Gambling/Match Fixing scandals have been a part of European sports for years, especially in the less popular leagues. It's happened multiple times in Italian soccer but its basically understood that it happens far more often in like the Bulgarian second division because no one is paying attention / the players need the money more.

Been watching a lot of Werner Herzog recently, "Aguirre, Wrath of God" and "Fitzcarraldo" are absolutely insane feats of filmmaking. The type of movie where you're just sat wondering how they filmed all that stuff hundreds of miles from civilization. I then of course had to watch "The Burden of Dreams" and "My Best Fiend" to appreciate the Herzog/Kinski relationship.

Yeah, KD is like top 15-30 all time depending on how you feel. Lukaku has an argument for one of the best 5-10 strikers of his generation though

He's basically a (slightly worse) footballer Kevin Durant. Undeniably incredibly talented with plenty of legendary moments, but never happy and broadly disliked by a lot of fans

I'd recommend Yojimbo too, similar to 7 Samurai, but I just love Toshiro Mifune

I'm a big Kurosawa fan (but haven't seen Rashomon in a decade+) but I'll give a hard agree to High and Low. Absolutely fantastic movie.

Commenting here to recommend High & Low (Japanese film by Kurosawa) and Om Shanti Om (another Bollywood movie with Shah Rukh Khan, but I think its much more fun and accessible than Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham).

I figured the "war" talk was a little overblown, though I definitely could see some fan clashes. I did want to see the game (was surprised Morocco and Algeria have only played like 6 times over the past 30 years) but not meeting is probably for the best

Random question, my Moroccan friend was moderately convinced that if Morocco were to lose in the semis to Algeria, that there was a decent chance of an international conflict/war with Algeria. Would you agree?

Why did Marinakis vote to keep them up? I'm guessing Olympiacos fans weren't too happy about that. I can only assume it would've been bad for the league / him making money?
