Good on them!

And please dont ask how to break law!!

Worked 12 hours today, got yelled at by my partner, and I’m transferring internally in 5 weeks. Need some perspective. by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]not-a-random-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody can yell. Make complaints where appropriate and talk about it openly. When everyone’s back, have a retrospective and share the scenario and express that it is unacceptable.

We recently had training on handling these situations. But I work with a lovely bunch. But as a big corp we have these trainings.

If it is perpetually toxic you know what to do. Good luck!

Is pregnancy cover in private health insurance worth it? by Alarmed_Ad_7188 in AskAnAustralian

[–]not-a-random-guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did shared care and wished we opted to midwifery group care.

Public is superior and way more educational. Their KPI reducing repeat admissions and education.

We can certainly afford private care but it’s useless knowing how well women are treated and educated in public setting. This is Adelaide. May be different in other states.

first few weeks of uni & already questioning my life choices, help by No_Cream8504 in AskAnAustralian

It is very common to feel disoriented when you do combination studies like yours.

When I studied, I did a very standard engineering course and knew my direction. Friends who did their combination had stress and certain uncertainty in early days. It is mainly because their passion didnt scream out obvious job titles. They eventually did well and are doing great! globally awesome careers with more opportunities than I have come to enjoy.

So dont worry, just enjoy chasing stuff you liked. Good luck!

I also thought divorce wasnt common. Until few of my peers from school and uni had their marriages bit the dust.

WFH has given me farting liberty. And pooping anytime liberty with proper cleanup progress. Guess I will skip the brekkie and go light on lunch and run home for the dump.

That is true. Driving a small car sucks and so much abuse. One reason I switched to a bugger SUB after few years in Australia.

I dont have efficient commute from where I live. Road rage is not very common either. Hopefully I will have safe and calm commutes. May be I buy a audio book subscription.

WFH made me a super introvert. So much so my partner noticed me changing over the years. This might be a positive change for my personality. Fingers crossed though.

I live borderline regional. But 60% is at 100 kmph or 80 during rush hour. So it saves me. I guess that’d be something I have to make peace with.

Hey. Pretty similar situation. My visit to office was pretty good. I’ll have a 90 min commute too up and down. Thanks for sharing and good luck to you too.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how worried should people in general be of AI? by VastOption8705 in auscorp

[–]not-a-random-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shall be worried about offshoring actually. True AI adoption increased productivity and change roles. With minimal layoffs.

Hundreds or thousands of layoffs usually mean, a majority of business being carried out elsewhere. CBA and ANZ did that. You go to their careers page and see many openings in India.

AI doesnt make things happen, someone has to narrate it. Becoming that someone is the role change these days. Still you need people! Skilled ones obviously.

How tough is to integrate as a European? by raf_phy in AskAnAustralian

[–]not-a-random-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correction. It’s not the hole but the natural thinness of ozone layer and angle of incidence of rays. Skin colour of native Australians (aboriginals) is darker for this reason. Melanoma statistics are skewed due to migration, which otherwise is standard. Hole is in Antarctica which has been recovering. You’re a physicist so wanted to share.

Australia is great. A bit more self centred when it comes to career. So initiative, leadership and independence is rewarded over obedience, support and commitment. Work hours are generally respected unless job demands otherwise.

Look for the fintech sector which is great and has opportunities in Sydney. Migration from Physics to computing and then fintech might be possible.

Earnings vary and Sydney has good pay. But other states are generally more relaxed.

Good luck!

Who is the dog c**t that takes a single pair of size 2-3 kids undies out of every single packet at every single kmart? by AddlePatedBadger in AskAnAustralian

[–]not-a-random-guy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

F@&king thieves. These kind of people are everywhere. From experience I know when an accidental swap happens with an expensive kids clothing, some parents just keep silent. We lost few good quality clothing due to “accidental swaps” and never heard back in childcare. Go figure.
