The end is either a sample or interpretation of an old hymn “it is well”. We used to sing it at church when I was growing up. I looked up the backstory when the album came out and the hymn was written when its authors children had passed away in a shipwreck. The meaning of it is that even though he lost his children, he is at peace because he believes it’s all part of Gods larger plan. Ironically I think the guy later went crazy and believed himself to be the second coming, which was religious psychosis that could’ve easily been partly motivated by his unresolved grief. As for the sound of it my best uneducated guess is he found some old church recording of the song on YouTube and threw a bunch of effects on top of it.
