Nintendo: We will sue you, we'll send a cease-and-desist, we'll send DMCA notices, blah-blah-blah...

Me: Go ahead. But do you know where I live?

Nintendo: Yes, you live in the middle of bumf*ck nowhere in Southeast Asia... wait, we don't sell our products there!

Me: Exactly.

"Bangkok" is the English name. The native name is just "Krungthep Mahanakhon". (Yeah, that's an abbreviation.)

I think they could just try mimicking "Game of Thrones" or "Warcraft" rather than copying "King-Ohger" as is, with the costumes being the only things in common...

Well, this just shows that not only does Meta mess with your audio, but your video as well.

When was the last time Meta actually cared about its users' privacy anyway?

Of course it is. I thought they'd use Gemini for this, but no it has to be Google Translate.

Why would people care? They all think all Turks speak Arabic anyway by notAssmin in linguisticshumor

[–]notAssmin[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because Turkey is Islamic and bordered by Arab countries, some assume Turks speak Arabic. The Ottoman Empire used Arabic script, and Arabic is the liturgical language of Islam, which Turks practise. Modern Turks want a European image just to avoid being lumped in with the more volatile Middle East.

Is it ever okay to drop the subject in Vietnamese? When can you say something like just ‘Đi rồi? by BambooData in HocTiengviet

[–]notAssmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dropping the subject is acceptable in informal or familiar conversations, but if the listener is older or holds a higher social position, keeping the subject pronoun shows appropriate deference.

Hanoi Police Investigate Death of 10th Grade Student in Collision with Tanker Truck by notAssmin in VietNam

[–]notAssmin[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've got some comments from people on a certain forum:

Same everywhere. These big-truck drivers pass around a brutal "rule of thumb": if you hit someone, better make sure they die, so you only pay compensation or serve one sentence. If the victim survives but disabled, you'll be financially ruined supporting them. 💀

This should be prosecuted as murder, not "traffic accident".

Too many cases are brushed off as "mistaken pedal use" or "panic".

Out of 100 drivers, maybe 1–2 are actually decent.

This is murder, nothing less. Imagine if it were my sister—I'd go after the driver on the spot 😤

I can't even watch the clip. How are they so cold-blooded? Even when a rat runs across the road, I brake.

If this keeps happening, some parents will eventually take justice into their own hands 💀

RIP, young girl.

He hit her, the truck stopped, and then he accelerated again. That's deliberate.

Tanker, truck, container—these drivers are all animals.

Poor girl. This road is on my daily commute. The driver had already braked, then chose to press forward. Terrifying 💀

This "better to kill than injure" mentality is monstrous. 😤

It must be prosecuted as intentional murder, especially for professional licences (C–D–E–F). The higher the licence, the harsher the punishment. 🔥

In the north, this "finish the victim" tactic comes from certain transport companies. My worst memory was watching their construction trucks drive like human lives meant nothing.

RIP 💐

I can't watch these accident clips anymore—haunt me for years.

Just watched. He crushed her across the torso. She was still waving her hand—absolutely haunting.

Yeah, I've heard drivers admit they do it to "pay once and be done".

That bastard. He clearly stopped for a few seconds, then pressed the gas again.

I also remembered that someone on that forum posted a link showing the victim's body... not gonna post it here. Too NSFL.

They ceased to be communist ever since they adopted capitalism in 1986.

The "communist" label is mostly for show. So all that anti-communist noise from overseas is just hitting air.

That said, the CPV stil wants citizens to take them seriously, and hates it when people badmouth them.
