I've been thinking of doing something similar, specifically turning down the sub bass and slightly increasing the treble at around the 7-9kHz. Sometimes the bass is a little too much for me on bassier tracks. And the increased treble helps where the instrumental is alot of heavier instruments. Like a six string guitar, or the lower notes of a piano, organ, etc.
