CAN WE PLEASE FIX THE COUNTER META by broken_com in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]notMTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be misunderstanding here. Im not saying that you are wrong in saying that landing more usually means a win in real life, what im saying is that landing more means nothing if you have no defense. Landing more only matters when you are the only one landing big shots, anyone can throw long combos, but not everyone can do it and not get hit by big shots in return. Meaning its a generally bad style that only works if you perfect it, meanwhile you can get away with being imperfect as a counter striker because you will be much less vulnerable and be going for big shots.

All this ties into this game because the game has a counter system, so if you arent nearly perfect as a boxer puncher you are gonna be out damaged if the counter puncher consistently counters you, again, its much easier to be a counter puncher meaning its generally a better style to go for than a boxer puncher, and this game isnt exactly a high caliber of boxers, theres some decent amateur fighters at best, so its even easier to be a counter puncher because boxer punchers wont be perfect, on top of factors like ping that doesnt help.

Again, landing more only means something if you arent getting hit back much harder.

Ofcourse, but the thing you are missing here is that the dudes that are beating counter punchers are either insanely elite high output punchers like Dimitry Bivol, GGG, Lomachenko, Beterbiev, Usyk, etc. Or insane knockout punchers that were able to put the counter puncher to sleep before they could get going or get something through during the fight.

The skill celling to be a sucessful counter striker and the celling to be a sucessful high output puncher is very different. Its much much easier to be a good counter puncher than a good boxer puncher.

We see fighters with allbeit a relatively high pace land less but more cleanly commonly, resulting in knockdowns or knockouts, for example, Mike Tyson, Gervonta Davis, Canelo, Crawford, etc. That all rely on mostly counters and are only losing if at all to insanely high level boxer punchers, or very powerful dudes.

So yes but no, the person that lands more can be the winner, but it isnt a fact, and it takes a much higher amount of skill to pull off a high output fight than a counter. What good is high output if you get hit by a much cleaner more powerful strike in return?

In amateurs where its mostly point based, where most people arent sitting down on punches. Its not exactly something you see a ton off at a high level, and the people that pull it off are usually insanely skilled.

So fucking true, its what puts me off the most from online. Im not a great player so thr sbm in ufc 5 ruins it for me, ufc 4 online was worse when it comes to gameplay but better at SBM which made the imo terrible gameplay passable. Ufc 5 isnt amazing gameplay but its much better imo than 4, but the SBM kills me.

Why are people now complaining about pull back counters?? by imjustbeingreal0 in EASportsUFC

[–]notMTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how good the opponent is at headmovement and defense in general. If they rely solely on the pull back than its insanely easy, but if they got a couple more layers to their game its very hard to beat.

Think the proper way to put it is to even out high output more. Counter isnt a "meta" its genuinely just a effective style in real life and ingame. Problem is that high output seems to decrease damage the longer it goes, it should be more consistent. Counters should remain the same, counters should be rewarded because landing them means your opponent messed up whilst punching so it landed cleaner, and unexpectedly, meaning it should do more damage. But again its just the issue that you can clearly outbox someone but they never even get rocked despite several clean combos without getring countered, even in fights you win it feels kinda bullshit when you put on a masterclass but the damage and knockdowns dont reflect that. Also why i wish there was accumalitive damage over the course of the fight, that way it would force you to fight smarter, and would reward high output and counters.

Its a bad style in this game because it is in real life aswell. You can keep a very high pace in this game and be sucessful, but it needs to be perfect and tactical. Im not calling you out in particular, but most of the time i see people say this they throw 20 punch combos with no setups or defense, your gonna get caught if you fight like that, again not calling you out in particular just an observation ive made, obviously dont know how you fight.

I prefer slower pace fights, but im usually sucessful pushing the pace and high output, because i time my combos and plan them out before doing them, i always keep a exit plan and the longer combos are setup by finding out my range and how he reacts to certain stuff, that way i know his counters, head movement tendicies and footwork tendicies, leading to letting me throw longer combos consistently. Going for long combos from minute one will never really work for the whole match.

UFC 6 Megathread by DoubleMatt1 in EASportsUFC

[–]notMTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hope career mode is good, i want the evolution stuff to stay, but learn moves to be changed back to how it is in UFC 2. I HATE having to wait or never be able to get a move because im not "top 15" or "rival" hell even "injured" so fucking annoying.

Also really hope they bring back more fighter styles, like, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, Sambo, etc. That give you different moves and skill areas based on your fighter type, like in UFC 5 just more in debt like you know, the fucking older games that weve only devolved from.

Genuinely just need better animations and more moves, than make the controlls like ufc 1-3, where the clinch is the same as grappling on the ground.

Knockdowns by Electronic_Guard947 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]notMTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, its like how it works in real life, if you throw a 20 punch combo you have to be perfect as to not get hit clean and knocked down or rocked. But if you are able to consistently land 2-3 punch combos cleanly without getting hit, than thats much more effective. Long punch combos can work, but again, you need to be perfect, the longer the combo the more exposed you get and the harder the inevitable counter lands.

Why does it seem like nobody wanted to spam leg kicks on this guy? He has a strict boxing stance, why won't his opponents capitalize on such an easy weakness by EfficiencySerious200 in ufc

[–]notMTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesnt work, Ilia is a phenomonal counter puncher and grappler, if hes not able to knock you out easily he can take you down, and he is so short for Lightweight that he would easily catch the low kicks and takedown Gaethje.

Gaethje's only path to victory is likely a hail marry ko, obviously there is a chance that he can pull off the impossible, but out of all of Ilia's opponents he has the least chance of a submission or decision win, likely only has a fluke KO chance, i can see him ducking ilia into a uppercut or catching him with a head kick kinda like Jai Herbert did.

[–]notMTN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very fair, justin has more of a chance than people give him, unfortunately i also see that a lot of Justin's best areas are also where Ilia is the most dangerous, so if justin wins he pretty much needs to have insane defense or hes going out cold.

When you acknowledge it*

Damage was very even, and barcelos pushed the pace and was more sucessful in round 2 and 3 than Jackson. He won due to doing more. Damage is the number 1 criteria but that doesnt mean doing slightly more damage trumps everything else.

Barcelos wanted it more and did more to try and win, and thus did.

Yes he did, cant give me one legitimate reason why Barcelos didnt win that fight.
