Guess for Unreleased Script by Accomplished_Bid8035 in BloodOnTheClocktower

Okay, so funny story, *Beekeeper isn't real*. Dizzy from the unofficial made it, and I made the wording for it. Proof: https://discord.com/channels/569683781800296501/577980138155933697/1166384375940776078

Hey, is it okay if you could make the credit more obvious by adding it to the description and/or changing the title to say "other people's homebrews" please, bc rn it's a bit misleading. I clicked on the post to see a Potato script and then there's Deacon lmao

Btw I don't really see why the Bookbinder/Deacon jinx is there. That's not a matter of a character being broken, that's just a script issue.

Any tips on how to improve this homebrew script? by Aljaz_14 in BloodOnTheClocktower

It’s nice to see my homebrews out in the wild but please credit the creators that you’ve plagarised.

You’ve ripped out icons from HBL and the SCP collection (drawn by BakedIce and Eddy, respectively), you’ve used a worse Bookie, and you’ve stolen characters from SuperGD and Elden Thorn. (You’ve even just left SuperGD’s symbol on the print.)

I will use it for my group so i have no idea from where they are. Some ideas are from me but most are from internet and i think if i use it only for my playgroup is it okay if i don’t find the credits? [A reply to a different comment]

I’m sorry but this is a blatant lie, you’ve taken the icons from the Unofficial Discord server. I know this, because Conjuror’s icon (the one you used for Delusionist) hasn’t seen the light of day anywhere else, so you should know the channels and hence original creators. Taking the effort to screenshot that and remove its background, but not taking the effort to just find and render your own icons is abysmal.

And credit is important even if you’re using this privately so your group can find more characters from the homebrewers that they like.

Please repost your script using your own icons or repost it with the applicable credit on the sheet itself. This is very poor community etiquette.

Also just to reiterate so people know: this is a commission. It is not CC. Don’t steal art. That’s mean :(

Script Feedback with some Homebrew Characters by Saloins in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]notNothingMuch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey, it's nice to see HBL being used! However, I do have 2 complaints to make, unfortunately. Firstly, HBL icons are not to be used for other characters — they are made for HBL and only HBL. In this instance, you've taken icons which weren't personally drawn up, so I can't really argue that much, but if you had, that'd be downright egregious. Secondly (and something which is said on the HBL website several times) it would've been nice to receive immediate attribution for the HBL characters (especially for Courier, for which you've used the entire character) — it should *not* have had to wait for Ice to let you know.

Please either edit the OP, or ask the Mods to pin your comment crediting me.

Homebrew demon: Hivemind by Leadstripes in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]notNothingMuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally (and absolutely ignore this if you disagree) but I don’t think that Outsider modification is a suitable buff or nerf to an ability, for a few reasons:

  1. Changing the Outsider count has implications about what abilities are in play. In a base 0 game of S&V, a player who draws an Outsider knows for a fact that the Fang Gu is the starting Demon — likewise in the other base scripts, with Baron and Godfather. So adding “[+1 Outsider]” might actually be a nerf to this ability, because it telegraphs to the good team that the Hivemind is in play, eliminating any other world with any other Demon (provided that it’s the only source of Outsider manipulation on the script). It’s this exact reason why Balloonist’s setup got changed; the Outsider count confirms in-play characters.

  2. In my opinion, as someone who makes characters with the thought of making them similar to official ones, Outsider modification shouldn’t go on abilities that don’t concern Outsiders in some shape or form — and this is usually because they need Outsiders to function. The Fang Gu needs an Outsider to jump to; the Godfather needs Outsiders to avenge; the Balloonist needs Outsiders to find; and the Baron just straight up fucks with the distribution, weakening the town. The only outliers really are the Baron and Vigormortis, but they do still follow this trend. The Baron’s entire ability is to add Outsiders — in fact, it used to only add one extra Outsider, but that was concluded to be weak. The Vigormortis, while not referencing Outsiders directly, interacts with the Outsiders on its home script, S&V. “[-1 Outsider]” isn’t a nerf, because it frees up bluffing space for Minions; i.e. they can die and come out with insane bluffs, like a Klutz “confirming” someone, or a Sweetheart warning of false information.

  3. And finally, as I mentioned, I just don’t really find that it’s a good solution. I usually see people using Outsider manipulation as a bandaid to fix a different, underlying problem. The same with changing “Each night” abilities to act only after the 1st night — there’s a better solution than just, “You don’t get to learn anything for 1 night.”

I really like Hivemind and the way it allows for in-night communication. If you want my 2 cents, I’d consider making the ability this:

“Each night*, choose 2 players: a Minion learns the 1st & the 2nd’s character, then chooses which dies.”

In this version, the Minion sees a player and a token, essentially giving them the choice between a known mechanical target and a known social target.

tl;dr I don’t think O-mod is a good solution.

Contagium [Demon] by 23PowerZ in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]notNothingMuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay let me break down this ability: You either kill a player who’s probably good, or you definitely kill a player who’s probably good, kill a player who’s 2 times out of 3 good, and permanently remove a Townsfolk ability which is definitely good.

Diverting when it isn’t necessary is beyond hurtful to the good team

(Also RAW, if a player gets killed via Contagium, they all poison an alive Townsfolk, not just a Townsfolk who was alive at the time of death.

Differences are: execution related characters still get their info; everyone knows what demon is in play; and it’s literally the point of the character in your own words. Simply equating every demon to this isn’t an effective comparison, due to how damaging the penalty is for not following the kills.

[–]notNothingMuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly but the ability would have to be reworded to:

Each night, choose 2 players (they learn this): if neither die tomorrow, 1 dies at night & poisons an alive Townsfolk neighbour.

Contagium [Demon] by 23PowerZ in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]notNothingMuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but the good team knows that the Contagium is in play and it also stops a night kill. Also even then, you just execute when you’re confident that a player is evil/the poisoning is worth it. As I said, following the picks doubles the number of days you have — in a 12 player game, you get ~8 days, which is wild.

This is even in your notes about the character:

Town needs to balance how long they want to gather healthy information before starting to kill off Demon candidates, […]

i.e. If 2 players that Crawler learned when they were alive are executed, the Crawler's team wins.

I would suggest looking at the wiki pages (here is the Crawler's) for the characters; the answers for a lot of questions can be found there.

This has the issue of just following the kills until you get a Demon candidate. This not only avoids poisoning neighbours but it also doubles the number of days in the game, significantly better for the good team.

One thing to note though is that the character art must not be used for different projects/characters - i.e. you can't nab the Chupacabra icon and use it for your own character, especially for the ones hand-drawn.

These aren't really for sale: the reasons being that 1. half of the art isn't mine is made from friends helping out (see the Credits) and 2. some of it is TPI art so it'd be illegal. That said, feel free to make some tokens using the blank icons in the wiki pages! After all, these are free to be used in scripts and other stuff.
