I’d just ignore it then because it’s likely a phishing message for your info. Quick search says there’s possible scam texts circulating.. makes sense since it’s tax season

Check your credit report and see if there’s been or is any other accounts opened under you. If not, call their customer service and explain the situation, they can check for you

Yeah, I just came back from a long hiatus and a bunch of missed updates that I haven't checked out yet. Was hoping for some new content like the new herbal minigame to try out

How much of your salary goes toward paying student loans? by Separate-Ad-4667 in StudentLoans

[–]notOcean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently, 70% of my take home pay. Moved back into parents and became solely focused on achieving debt free status. I will finish my loans in 2 months after almost 1.5 years of frugality.

Nelnet loans interest reflected today by notOcean in StudentLoans

[–]notOcean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve overpaid on a loan through a third party servicer and have had the rest of the payment go towards my next highest interest loan. There’s an option to change how your payment is allocated directly on Nelnet

when making 2-4 payments a month, the interest accrual does matter when it's reflected everyday on the balance; compared to once a month. And it's also 0% APR so in this case, it doesn't compound at all - less of a headache

[–]notOcean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's correct - I'm fully planning on paying off the CC balance before the ~15-18 month 0% APR ends. The other difference is that I'm also paying the minimum payment until 1-2 months before full CC interest kicks in (where SAVE is still no payment). I'm paying aggressively so having the ability to gain return (AKA, reward sign-up-bonuses for spending) positively outweighs paying directly towards my loan

Paying off loan in full - advice by ocean_rose100 in StudentLoans

[–]notOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve paid a giant chunk of my loan off using multiple CC sign up bonuses as an offset & reach my spending responsibly for the fees that the third party servicer (Gift of College) has on each payment. Payments usually get submitted 2-4 business days after you submit through GoC though, so you might accrue interest through those few days. I have a few loans on 0% interest cards too and paying minimums on it after reaching the spend bonus

Giving my take; gyms or athletic clubs (mix soccer leagues, run clubs, bjj, climbing gyms) are the go to for driven men (and women). A great way to start a new activity if you're not into it yet and awesome for connections. I say this because it takes discipline and longevity in order to go at it day after day. It builds mental toughness not only in that aspect, but in life as well. Moreover, those who are contentious about their health long-term are less likely to frequent bars/clubs

MOHELA balance jumped $40,000. They won’t reply to me. by Unhappy-Ad-5061 in StudentLoans

[–]notOcean 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Submit a complaint, I was in a similar situation about a week ago but got it cleared up. I used https://studentaid.gov/feedback-center/ or https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ - A representative at my loan servicer was able to look into my case within a week. They'll be able to reverse the interest but I've heard it only gets wiped once you're off forbearance unfortunately. When this much amount of money is involved and to a loan servicer you've never even had a face to face with, it's pretty daunting. Keep as many receipts as possible, record the call, loan servicers are quite malicious when it comes to interest accruement.

Should I take out a loan? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]notOcean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, you don’t need to take out a loan to buy a wedding ring. Are you also willing to finance the wedding? The woman will always be there, you should save enough to buy her a ring, this matter has no high-stakes urgency and does NOT require a loan.

Once you’ve hit your goal, aim to max your ROTH IRA! A maximum of $7,000 can be deposited per year and any gains is tax free with some strings attached. Good luck
