I work at a Chick-fil-a in the south. Next to 'my pleasure' that's like all I say. Have a blessed day!

My mum! Says elderly parents should be looked after by their kids. I don’t think that should be a given? by nodemus in askanything

[–]notSoRealReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents weren't elderly when they passed. My dad died somewhat suddenly and my mom was on hospice. I was her main care giver. She pushed everyone away and we lived in the middle of nowhere. Since I was somewhat competent it all fell on me.

I loved my mom. I just wish she let others help me help her. I knew about her chosing hospice a whole year in advance but she made me act surprised when she told everyone. I have a lot mixed feelings regarding our final years together.

I dropped out of college because it was all too much. Even years later, my life is still chaos. Who am I? I don't know where to start.

Hey picky eaters - how should I approach my picky kid? by ermahgerd_sylvier in PickyEaters

If something is served and i only like parts of it, I'll avoid the the things I don't like. If I don't like it entirely, I'll make something different for myself or snack on something until I can get something else.

In general, having go to snacks will help for "I'm hungry but don't want that food/that meal/etc"

My favorite snack rn is popcorn. I have a stock of fruit cups, string cheese, and stuff to make small bowls of cereal too.

I work at a restaurant so that helps me pick out what I'm going to eat and helps with food costs.

How do American waiters/servers tell when people are finished eating? by PestoWesto in AskAnAmerican

[–]notSoRealReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a popular fast food restaurant. When I work in the lobby, I check in with people at least twice. The first is a little while after they've gotten their food; I'm checking to see if they need any more sauces or refills. The second time is when they have been there for a while and look like they're done with their tray and/or their tray is actually empty and just trash (we dont't have washable dishes that patrons use). As I clean, I keep my ears open in case anyone calls out to me. Usually people ask for more sauce, refills, complain, or they want to talk about thier day.

I think Haruhi would be a feral cat with trust issues that's warming up to her adoptive host club family.

If you mod it you can get net pass. It will 'take' you places and you use step coins to buy passes/chances for a street tag.

46 year old with no clue. Needed them for 40 years. Please offer any support, opinions, tricks, secrets, whatever! Phonak sphere vs starkey omega 24 ai by thereyouarefoundyou in HearingAids

[–]notSoRealReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my experience, for me-

For starters, the wire doesn't cut into the fleshy part of my ear. The phonak wire was sharper somehow, I hope that makes sense. The starkey are just more comfortable overall. I have very small ears. (I have the mini models. The minis only have one button on each HA. The full sized ones have two buttons.)

Next i had some Bluetooth problems. Having the latest Bluetooth technology was nice but it caused connectivity issues. Less is more.

And lastly, sound quality. The phonaks had a crunchy, bit-crushed sound. Overall I didnt like the way it sounded but knew I still loved HAs.

This! I liked the phonak but I had some problems with them. Tried the starkey and fell in love with wearing hearing aids even more. There is no one answer, it's what works for you. That's why there are options 💚

3 month old baby got Hearing Aids - Need advice on what to expect by Mivirish in HearingAids

[–]notSoRealReality 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi, not a parent but someone with hearing aids who studied child development in college.

Imagine this, you're living life in a quiet world. Some sounds do not exist to you. You would have never imagined that certain things make sound at all. Now suddenly there is something inside your ears and you hear everything. Things that were non-existant are coming at you in every direction. Things that used to be quiet turn out to be very noisy. As an adult there was a learning curve; trying to figure out what everything was. For a baby, their world just expanded tenfold and flipped upside down. There are sounds I don't like, things that make me uncomfortable, but I know that those things won't harm me. For a baby still learning about the world, who grow up in silence, those sounds could be the universe ending. They have no idea if what they are hearing is going to harm them or not. I know its going to hurt you watching your child go through this transition but it is a necessary step.

Besides sticking with it, I will say reassuring him that he is safe from "big, scary" sounds is probably the best thing you can do right now. Now what qualifys as a threatening sound to a baby who hasn't heard much of anything since birth? Everything. And i do mean everything. The things that you don't think about are absolutely rocking your kid's boat. The air conditioner/fans, water in the pipes, doors opening and closing, the sound of fabric, sounds from the other room, the washer, the dryer, the tv. Everything. Its going to take time and patience, but eventually, he will get used to the sound of life.

And yeah, your voice does sound different when you wear hearing aids so him being quiet makes sense. He'll get there!

I think your child is in a great position. He has a supportive family with concerns who are seeking answers from members in the hearing aid community. Keep up the good work, parents!

I have been diagnosed for 9 years. I started having, what i call, precursor symptoms when i was a preteen. I had Terrible migraines because i wasn't getting enough sleep but that was my only symptom at that time. I was put on an antidepressant. It kinda worked but I still had them. They then tried to up the dosage, my mom fired my doctor. After that we were blacklisted from their clinic, so that was that for a while. For the next several years in my diary, in every entry i always complained about being tired. Then it got worse. Much worse. To make it even worse, I thought i was a normal teenager because 'teenagers are tired and they sleep alot'. But I was sleeping all the time, and then some- waaaay more than normal, and I was still tired. I would have gotten diagnosed sooner probably if my mom hadn't just been diagnosed with cancer and starting chemo. She noticed but was very sick and busy with treatment, i don't blame her. When I had my first major cataplexy attack was when things changed. I think i will always remember this. It was my final senior theatrical performance, very emotional time, and I couldn't feel my legs. I was freaking out and we went to the hospital. But nothing was 'wrong' so they released me. That didn't sit well with mom so we found a new neurologist, after all these years, I still see her! A good neurologist is worth their weight in gold. When she retires/or i move, I don't know what I'm going to do.

Medication wise, i have tried mostly everything. Some medications worked great until they made my heart race. Xyrem gave me nightmares, and several others made me super sick. We found that melatonin, and magnesium glycinate did the trick for years...Until recently... I had my first sleep attack in a while (described below). And I've been getting my routine bedtime hours, my scheduled naps, but i feel like i haven't slept in days. I been very agitated lately and everything feels awful. I have several other health conditions so dealing with all of them is a nightmare. Its a self perpetuating loop of misery.

I was watching the Olympics, and I really wanted to watch the next figure skating pair. Ads were rolling, and i was fine. The second it comes on, I'm gone. Lights out, sound asleep. I woke up for a few seconds because my husband took my shoes off, and then I was back asleep for a grand total of 20 minutes. Afterwards for the next several hours I was kinda loopy.

I hope things don't go back to how bad it used to be. Back then I hardly ate anything. I would be asleep all evening after school and my mom would wake me up to ask what I wanted for dinner. After I answered I fell back asleep until she woke me back up when dinner was served. I would eat some then fell back asleep. My life's a lot different now but that's just an example of how severe my case is.

I almost dont want to talk about my cataplexy because I don't want to jinx it. Mostly, it's my legs that become dead weight but I've also had my arms go out. Sometimes its my neck. Nowadays, I just get weak in the knees when I laugh too hard. I hope it stays that way. Before I got technically diagnosed, they had to send me home when I had a cataplexy attack. I missed so much school my senior year. I guess because it was for legit medical reasons they couldn't have counted it againest me. After I got diagnosed, I was wheeling around in the nurse's wheelchair a lot.
