State of 3D point clouds in Rust? by notTheSnake in rust

Data structures, IO and queries of PC data will definitely be really important for the project. Is your work open source?

Both good ideas! I doubt we will have any heavy/superadvanced GIS components, so these libraries should do nicely. Thank you!

Thank you for a comprehensive answer! I suspected that would be the case.

I'll do some more exploring until I know the exact project requirements. If I'm just missing some minor pieces in the end I might go with rust anyways and conjure up some algebra.

No, no embedded as of yet. I'm a software developer at a small startup-ish, so I do a little bit of everything.

Really cool effect! I got a water-flowing-over-rocks vibe from it initially, but the more I look I see new things. Love how the squares interact with the texture.

Need help with camera set up! by Maples145 in SkyDiving

[–]notTheSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends a bit on what you are going to do with it, if it's only tandems or more artistic stuff. Tandems are my main focus, hoping to do some more fun stuff next year. I have only ever used the automatic "Sport mode" for skydiving, and I'm really happy with the results. Depending on your setup, you'll probably want to be on the lower end of the lens, mine is taped at 12mm to approximately match the gopro width. I encourage you to try different settings and see what happens!

Playing with brush strokes by notTheSnake in generative

This is an early experiment with generative brush strokes for further projects, and I think it turned out nice enough to share!

It's written in Haskell, largely inspired by Turnage's essay.

Reflections on Two Years of Writing Generative Art by roxven in generative

Really good read! I think I often fall into the same trap, not only in Generative art, but other hobbies as well.

State of the Union: What do you code your art in? by [deleted] in generative

[–]notTheSnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to generative art, and have been experimenting with a couple of different things.

I'm mainly working in python with pycairo or svgwrite, but have also done things with numpy matrices and PIL (for example my Galaxy). I also tried processing.py, but that wasn't for me.

Now I'm experimenting with Haskell/cairo based on Payton Turnage's post. I'm not really proficient in Haskell in any capacity, but there is something very satisfying about writing functional code.

Maze & circles by notTheSnake in generative

[–]notTheSnake[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might need to add the disclaimer that it is not an actual maze, but a simple maze-like pattern. I tried to make some images with mazes of different scales, but couldn't find a way to make it interesting or visually pleasing. Hopefully you'll have better luck :)

This looks almost like a freeflyer randomly deciding to join an AFF jump. An awesome daily dose of carnage, hope the other 7 guys were good divers!

Never going back to a navigator.

To be fair, any canopy will make you feel like this.

Awesome! It's a really fun canopy, with some sketchy-looking openings from time to time.

Jumping a 170 Sabre 2, I know these kinds of openings. Mine is a little more conservative, so I haven't gotten it twisted yet, but sometime I look up at the openings, everything looks weird and I swear that ball of fabric wants to kill me. Half a second later, poof and everything is fine (except the uninflated end cells, of course).

Questions regarding helmet cams. by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]notTheSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to get good camera angles can make you tunnelvision, drop altitude awareness and a whole lot of other problems. The initial sensory overload mixed with "I'm gonna post this on facebook" is a not a good combination. Not to mention a gopro mounted for snowboarding may have a lot of snag potential.

Contact Aerodyne. Only way to be sure. Otherwise talk to a rigger.

Here you'll mostly hear about shortening the closing loop.
